It looks like they are converted to regular date types in the generated proxy object.I'd like to optionally pass null values for these dates.Other than switching to WCF (no time to learn it right now), what is the best way to handle this situation. It looks like I also cannot pass NULLABLE date types.

I have an InvalidCastException Error in my program. The program is that i try to insert an employee record into a database table after getting the details from a form. I've used Money data type is SQL Server for salary and SqlTypes.SqlDecimal data type in employee template class. i've used a stored procedure to pass the values and i add the basic value by passing a parameter by the method

I am designing a hardware interfaced system for use in quizbowl style competitions. Before you say this is unoriginal, I have designed a system from the ground up that uses a parallax basic stamp to handle the buttons. This way the keyboard is free for use while a dedicated controller handles the input.
While the project is still in its early stages, I have hit a roadblock with the logic. The rules for the standard quizbowl state that the first person to buzz in gets the first chance to answer and the second person (must be from other team) has a chance for an imediate response. The part I am having trouble with is creating the code for who buzzed in when.
The controller sends a single byte containing the state of all 8 buttons roughly once every 75ms. I am having difficulty with grabbing the ID of the first person to buzz in and then getting the ID of the next person while filtering any more responses from the first team.
I've spent a substantial amount of time trying to figure this out, but I keep getting the same error

We have lots of WCF services that are only used by our own code; the code that uses them is mostly in the same solutions files that contains the services.
However they do not use a shared assembly for the contracts, so each time a data contract is change the reference to the service has to be updated by hand in all projects that use the service. (Then the code needs to be fixed up by hand)
So how do I do a simple refactoring like renamed a data item in a data contract?
Is there a way to update all references to services in a single solution with one command, rather then having to click on each reference in each project?

View 1 RepliesI am working on a produce inventory database in my VB Express program. I have a form on the bottom and a spreadsheet at the top. I want to enter all the data in the form and have that data automatically transferred as a group to the spreadshet in the upper part of the page when I press a button.
I know that there's an insert function. I set it up correctly. The problem is that I have to convert the textbox, which contain string data, to the datatype used in the database spreadsheet. HOw do I use CAST or do this?

Ever since I moved from VB6 to VB.NET somewhere in 2005, I've been using CType to do casting from one data type to another. I do this because it is simply faster to type, used to exist in VB6 and I do not know why I have to be using DirectCast if there is apparently no difference between them.I use TryCast once in a while because I understand that sometimes casting can fail. I however cannot get the difference between CType and DirectCast.

The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
