Standard Shapes And Grey Colored Controls

I haven't actually mastered VB.NET programming yet but I am already tired of the standard shaped and grey colored controls. Is there no other way (Programs or by code) of designing better looking controls of other shapes like circles or any shape I want and to give cool color and effects just the ones used in Windows Media Player v.11?

Assign Controls In A GroupBox To A Thread?

Nov 27, 2010

1) Which one works better? BackgroundWorker or Multithreading?I have to do lots of processing in my application, I'm not too sure how the two of them works.

2) Can I assign controls in a GroupBox to a thread?Let's say I have to login to a certain forum twice with different accounts, so in GroupBox1 (thread1), I'll be logged in with username "asd", in GroupBox2 (thread2), I'll be logged in with username "zxc", and I have to do lots of processing (mostly html parsing) from there. Is this possible without stressing on memory usage? I'd like to keep my program memory usage under 10k.

Add Standard Button To Toolstrip / Make Toolstripbutton As Standard?

May 27, 2009

I usually use standard button and do the settings like causevalidation etc if required.

i decided to use toolstrip and inserted some buttons but end up that it doesn't do the validation for control and also doesn't call leave event of textbox control.

so my question is, anyway to use regular button functionality for toolstripbutton or there is a way to add regular button on toolstrip.

Iterate Through Controls Using Dynamic Construction Of Control Names?

Jan 29, 2009

I need to iterate through controls using dynamic construction of control names and it looks like this could be what I need, however I never used this before and it does not quite work. What am I doing wrong? GroupBox1 is what I am attempting

Dim x as Integer = 1 For Each ctrl As Control In CallByName(Me, "GroupBox" & CStr(x), CallType.Method).Controls The runtime error is "GroupBox1" not found on Form1 even though I can select Me.GroupBox1 from the dropdown list.

Iterate The Parents Hidden Controls Names, Get Their Handles And Then Activate Them One By One?

Aug 24, 2010

I have an application and Spy++ reports that the parent window has many controls that are hidden. When I do a mouse click on the application's window, a number appears and I suppose it's the hidden controls that change their text/picture.So, is there a way to iterate the parents hidden controls names, get their handles and then activate them one by one (with sendmessage/postmessage wm_buttonclick) to see what changes?Right now I get the windows handle with FindWindow and the window's process id.

Get The Standard BackColor Of A Standard TabPage?

Mar 11, 2009

I am trying to add a TabPage containing a UserControl to a TabControl at runtime, because the number of TabPages to add are determined at runtime.

The UserControl (objDataInfo) is just two Textboxes, two labels and two Radiobuttons, nothing too exciting...

The TextBoxes have their Anchor properties set to Left, Up, Right so they scale with the width of the usercontrol.

The TabPages are added in the constructor of the form, which takes the number of tabpages to create (n) as an argument:

vb.net
Dim cList As List(Of objDataInfo)
Public Sub New(ByVal n As Integer)

[Code]....

So... How can I get the standard BackColor of a standard TabPage?

(I tried leaving out the usercontrol all-together, but the TabPage still has a gray background...)

How To Convert DataTypes In VB

Jan 2, 2011

I am working on a produce inventory database in my VB Express program. I have a form on the bottom and a spreadsheet at the top. I want to enter all the data in the form and have that data automatically transferred as a group to the spreadshet in the upper part of the page when I press a button.

I know that there's an insert function. I set it up correctly. The problem is that I have to convert the textbox, which contain string data, to the datatype used in the database spreadsheet. HOw do I use CAST or do this?

Here's the function I am using:

Me.TableAdapterManager.InventoryTableAdapter.Insert(IDTextBox.Text, fruitName, unitprice, unitsize, unitIn, unitTransit, unitOut)

Evernything is a string cause the data is coming from a textbox, I need to convert it to the datatypes used in the database.

.net - Casting DataTypes With DirectCast, CType, TryCast?

Apr 24, 2010

Ever since I moved from VB6 to VB.NET somewhere in 2005, I've been using CType to do casting from one data type to another. I do this because it is simply faster to type, used to exist in VB6 and I do not know why I have to be using DirectCast if there is apparently no difference between them.I use TryCast once in a while because I understand that sometimes casting can fail. I however cannot get the difference between CType and DirectCast.

VS 2008 Populate Object With List Of Windows Users Without Changing Datatypes?

Jul 25, 2011

PROJECT TYPE: Windows Forms Application

LANGUAGE: Visual Basic
.NET VERSION: 3.5
IDE: Visual Studio 2008
OPTION STRICT: on
OPTION EXPLICIT: ON

I need to populated a ComboBox and a CheckedListBox with a list of the Windows Accounts on the host computer. I also need to the user to be able to apply settings to the users individually. Thirdly, I need to find a way to add a startup registry key in the CURRENT_USER for a different user than the "Current User" (For example: User1 is an Administrator. User2 is a Limited Account [can't modify registry]. User1 needs to add Registry key to User2's "CURRENT_USER". This is a parental control application so the Admin accounts need to be able to access the registry from all users without affecting all users at once. I do not have any code to paste because I still have not the foggiest idea of where to start. I think it probably has something to do with an array (I have no experience with arrays whatsoever) but I am stumped from there. I'm a new, self-taught programmer so I speak idiot at times,

Summary of Questions
1) How do I retrieve a list of Windows Users?
2) How do I populate the objects above with such a list?
3) How do I interact with the items on that list (specific user accounts)?
4) How do I modify another user's CURRENT_USER Registry key?

C# - Decompiling .Net Assembly Produces Code With Invalid Member Variable Names; Names Starting With $STATIC$?

Sep 5, 2011

I am doing work for a client who has lost the source code for one of their VB.Net WinForms applications. The assembly they have is not obfuscated at all. I am trying to recover as much of the source as I can as C# source and have tried several tools for decompiling assemblies, including Reflector, ILSpy and JustDecompile (all the latest versions), but they all produce code with a huge number of errors in them. Because of the large number of errors in the generated code, I am going to ask about the specific errors (in different questions), get more directed answers and in this way try shed some light on why all the tools are having difficulty decompiling this assembly. This question pertains to the fact that the code generated by all these tools always have a large number of invalid member variables (fields) such as the following:

private short $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$nHeight;
private ArrayList $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts;
private StaticLocalInitFlag $STATIC$Report_Print$20211C1280B1$oColumnLefts$Init;

why the generated code has these invalid member variables?
