I am trying to add the System.Web.Extensions reference to my project and all the System.Web framework namespaces are greyed out in my add reference dialog. I am using .Net framework 4.Even stranger is that I opened another project which i know has that extension and its available.Thomas Donino Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7?
I have just installed VS 2010 ultimate onto a desktop running WinXP sp3. When I load/convert my VS2008 projects (based on .Net 2.0) the conversion fails. I get a error message saying that the Targetted Framework is not available. Only .Net 4.0 Framework is available. I have downloaded and installed the .Net 2.0 SDK (as advised), but it still doesn't appear in the available frameworks. I also have VS2008 (Team Studio) installed on the same machine and that can see 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 .Net frameworks no problems...
I can create a brand new empty console app in Visual Studio 2008 and add a reference to c:myfilesCrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework.dll and verything works just fine.If I do the same thing with the same file in Visual Studio 2010 (after changing my targeted framework to 3.5), I get the error that "CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework.dll or one of its dependencies, requires a later version of the .NET Framework than the one specified in the project." In Visual Studio 2010 it won't work unless I change my targeted framework to 4.0. How is it possible that a DLL could be incompatible with version 3.5 of the framework in VS2010, but compatible in VS 2008?
what the system requirements need to be for VS2010? I'm running beta 1 with 4GB internal and I find it very, very slow I can't find any requirements at the Microsoft site.
Is there any way to make my programs use a lower version of net.framework other than the newest version 4 that comes with VS2010?I use my programs within a closed network and there isn't an easy way for me to install any software since I'm not the administrator.
currently i am doing a billing system project using vs2010 and sqlserver 2008. i got 2 form, one for invoice & one for delivery order, and a button to submit the invoice details to DO form.
would like to ask a few question,
1) once i add new transaction, the invoice number will be auto increment and save all details into database table.
2) the invoice number cannot use again even after the transaction being canceled.
3) how to make the DO number and invoice number the same as per transaction done / undone.
I have read syedwaqasali95's thread but found it rater confusing so thought I would post my query separately I am trying to build a library system for a local blind person's charity using Visual Basic. Their current system of recording is an Excell Spreadsheet that was created for them by someone else. What they have asked for is something more User Friendly.I thought about using Access first, but I wanted to hide the Data where it couldn't be modified by accident, and I wanted to make it as user friendly as possible so I opted for a VB WindowsFormApplication that will have a simple user interface albeit having to get more complicated under the hood. The library has two types of items that they lend, Audio Books, and Music CD's. Also there will need to be a record of the members creating three tables for my database.I should state that the library has a laidback lending approach whereby it is less worried about how long you borrow a book or CD, rather it just wants to keep a record of the location of said items.
I need help/pointing in the right direction with the following things 1) I want to prevent any ability to directly edit the datagridview data instead I want the user to highlight the entry in the datagridview, and then click an edit button which will open a form containing the record to be edited.
2) I want to be able to call information from the borrowers database, and to be able to apply it to the books data, so that the user can see who has what book at any given time.
e.g. the user highlights a record in datagridview and clicks the "Lend" button, this pops out a form allowing the user to search/choose from the list of members, once a member has been selected the save button (or confirm lend) would add the member info to the book table and close the form
3) I have a large amount of data (1500 records) in the original excel document, I would like to import these (once the database is ready to be compiled) so that they don't have to be re-input.
I have VS2010 and have targeted Framework 2.0 to work with SQL Server 2000 which works great. The problem seems to be when I go to my release folder, right mouse click on my test.exe file and click on Compatibility, then select 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and then select Windows 2000 from the combobox. i get this error upon execution of text.exe:
The type initializer for 'WindowsApplication1.Module1' threw an exception.System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection' threw an exception. ---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionFactory' threw an exception. ---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlPerformanceCounters' threw an exception. ---> System.PlatformNotSupportedException:
This operation is only supported on Windows 2000 SP3 or later operating systems.
I want to know if the .net framework is installed on the system if it is not installed on the system then i would like to give a message to the user about it and exit my application. The problem is if the frame work is not installed on the system the application doesn't even starts.
I have a VS2010 solution (upgraded) that has two projects, an EXE and a DLL. In both the Target framework versions are 4.0. When one look at the references of the EXE project, one can see that the System.dll (and System.Core.dll and so for) references to the v4 version (the latest); however, in the DLL project the references points to the .Net Framework v2 version. Why is this happening? How can I make all my projects to point to the v4 libraries?
I have VB.NET Window based project built on .NET 3.5 Framework that is working on the Windows7 32 bit System but when I try to run this same application in Windows7 64 bit System it gives an error message: "System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)"
i have issue returning a list in a web method. here is the code
<WebMethod()> _ Public Function getTags(para_parents As String) As List(Of getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)() Dim context As New PPEntities
[code]....

Value of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of SaftyonRoad.getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of System.Collections.Generic.List(Of SaftyonRoad.getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)'
I am a one man dev shop and need some outside opinions on how to approach this project.
I need to create a "post office" program that will send html emails thru the system.net.mail framework.
For each job submitted to the postoffice the app would need to read a user created html email string from the database, read a string of email addresses to send to and send out the emails based on a set processing time.
The first step would be to parse out the email addresses to find out how many emails it needs to send out and determine how many it would need to send per minute to complete the job in 20 minutes tops. I.e. if 1000 email addresses are submitted per job it would determine that it needs to send 50 emails per minute to complete the job.
The part I am stuck on is how I should queue the emails. If the app determines it needs to send 50 a minute should I only load up the first 50 on a timer event then get the next 50 queued up for the next timer tick? Or would it be better to load up all 1000 in a loop and build in some kind of wait time after it sends the first 50?

While trying to install my application, when system tries to install .Net Framework, it gives an error. Is there any source where I could download uninstalled .Net Framework 3.0 and provide my clients with application?
I have a solution that I wish to upgrade from Vb.net framework 1.1 to framework 4.0. The solution consists of a number of projects, all but one of which compile to dll's. The master project compiles to a executable which provides a menuing system which dynamically loads the dll's and connects to entry points.
The projects contain normal classes, numbers of forms and also controls, which are either usercontrols or are inherited extensions of standard windows controls. There are a number of third party components (eg reporting and grid controls from Component One, Ribbon control from DevExpress etc).
How come software created in an older framework version won't run on a newer framework version? Actually whenever i try to run some old specific software having .net 3.5 framework on my PC they show they needs .net framwork 1.1 . What a bad thing? My newer version of Photoshop ans Ms office open all lower version files.
I work for a small company and we are planning to build our own framework using .net . For example if a dropdown is placed in the form and set the custom property to Users, then the users list from db from has to populate. The developer will drag and drop the custom control and set the connection string in config file. Other things are to be managed by the framework.
I have a program in VB.NET that has a webbrowser contorl. I wanted to zoom on a page and i found a tutorial online that involved something like thiswebbrowser1.ActiveXInstance.ExecWB(OLECMD...When i went on and typed it on, there's nothing called ExecWB.Why is that? Is it because i'm using IE9?
I have been testing and experimenting with "one click publishing" for a week now, and still cannot get a successful deployment. The results i get are listed below
(4/5/2012 12:14:11 PM) An error occurred when the request was processed on the remote computer.
The application pool that you are trying to use has the 'managedRuntimeVersion' property set to 'v2.0'. This application requires 'v4.0'.
I am working on a login page for an asp.net application. I'm making my own login and everything is working so far: I get a connection, the query is asking to return Count from the table where the username and password match the username password in the table.
I was wondering if they was anyway to get webparts working in other browsers except IE if not is they any other free alternative that has the same drag and snap and saving capabilities?
