Have been playing around with user controls and had a go at enhancing the textbox. Everything I done works fine except now I can't seem to tab out of or into the control. I haven't changed anything except the borderstyle and coloring when the control gets the focus.
View 5 RepliesI have a program that someone else designed the form on and sent to me to populate the code. I am not sure what could have been done to cause this problem, hoping for a quick oversight on my part. There are several fields of textboxes that the user enters numbers in. Normal behavior for textboxes is when you tab to them the current contents are highlighted. On one of these textbox fields, and only that one set of textboxes, the contents are highlighted like normal at first, but after the user edits the content of the textbox, if you tab to it again it will go directly into edit mode instead of highlighting the contents. Each textbox in the field does this individually, so if you just edit one, all the rest will continue to highlight contents until you edit them as well. It appears you don't actually have to change the value of the textbox, just entering edit mode and getting a blinking cursor is enough. I cannot find a difference in the properties of these textboxes compared to the rest.

When added to a form, I'm trying to loop through all control of this type and evaluate the custom property. In the below, the cntl.MyCustomProperty is not recognized. I can evaluate the property when I check each user control on the form by name, but not by using the loop below. I would much rather use the loop as it is much cleaner.

I've made my first little custom control. It is a textbox, then next to it a picture. I've written the code already for the picture box. It basically opens up a new form with a listview on it that displays details from the database. But now, I still want the text box to have the basic properties of a normal textbox like text alignment, enabled, backcolor, etc. But not sure how to do this.

I need a multiline TextBox which is always disabled, but it shouldn't paint itself in gray, but I want to keep its designer choosen color. I previously had the same requirement with an always-black Label (no multiline) and so I inherited from Label like:

I have a custom text box component (inherits from system.windows.forms.textbox) that I created in vb.net (2005) that handles the input of numeric data. It works well.
I would like to suppress the validating and validated events from firing if the number hasn't changed. If a user is tabbing through the form and tabs from the text box, the validating/validated events are fired.
I was thinking that the text box could cache the value and compare it to what is listed in the text property. If they are different, then I would want the validating/validate events to fire. If they are the same, nothing is fired.
I can't seem to figure out how to suppress the event. I have tried overriding the OnValidating event. That didn't work.

Here is the custom text box class. The idea is that I want to cache the value of the text box on the validate event. Once the value is cached, the next time the user tabs through the box, the validating event will check to see if the _Cache is different from the .Text. If so that is when I would like to raise the validating event to the parent form (as well as the validated event). If the _cache is the same, then I don't want to raise the event to the form. Essentially the text box will work the same as a regular text box except that the validating and validated method are only raised to the form when the text has changed.

The popup window comes by pressing F4 or ALT+DOWN keys in my datagrid which is getting closed if I press the down arrow for the first time, after showing the first value in the combo box as selected. Next time onwards, if I press the F4 key and down arrow, I can move to any item in the popup window and select the item using keyboard and in that case, the popup window is not getting closed till I press the ENTER key or selection using the Mouse. Is there any specific reason for this behaviour or something is missing in my code part? [code]...

I'm invoking the serialization by calling xmlserializer.Serialize(writer,Me) so I'm sure that has something to do with it.I've tried putting XMLRoot onto the class, but I think as vb is compiling this partial class with its aspx page, it's either overwriting this property or ignoring it entirely.I'd like to just tell it to either throw away everything it has and use a different root element.
