Custom Control Inheriting From TextBox Does Not Fire Paint Event

Aug 25, 2010

I need a multiline TextBox which is always disabled, but it shouldn't paint itself in gray, but I want to keep its designer choosen color. I previously had the same requirement with an always-black Label (no multiline) and so I inherited from Label like:
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class LabelDisabled
Inherits Label
Sub New()
InitializeComponent()
Enabled = False
End Sub
[Code] .....
But this way, neither I can set the "real" Enabled property, I mean the backing field.

Wpf - Fire A Custom Event From User Control?

Feb 10, 2012

I have a user control (SomeUserControl), that I am using in a Main Window. I write my application entirely on SomeUserControl, and Main Window is hosting SomeUserControl and nothing else.

Right now I have a shutdown button (in SomeUserControl), that is supposed to close the Main Window. The reason for this is that I do not want anything from SomeUserControl to close the application itself, but to fire an event from SomeUserControl, and Main Window receives it, and Main Window will close the application instead of SomeUserControl.

How do I do it? I am not familiar with the concept of creating and handling custom events, so if someone could explain it in words and in code as an example, I will be very grateful to you!

Edit: Here's my code so far.

(in Window 2)

Public Event CloseApp As EventHandler
Private Sub CancelButton_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles CancelButton.Click
DialogResult = False

[Code]....

I want to close the application when I click cancel in Window 2, but I don't want to do it in such a way that Window 2 closes itself, but by sending some notification to Main Window, and Main Window closes the application.

Winforms Paint Event Handler Fire Every 100 Ms?

May 4, 2011

I have a Windows form UserControl that receives electrical signal waveform data into a 128 element byte array Property every 1,000 ms.

I would like to have the Paint event draw a a subset of the 128 sample points of the array every
100ms (12-13 graphic.drawline operations) to simulate a rolling waveform display such as one would see on an oscilloscope or a medical monitoring device. Is it possible, and if so, how would I set the paint event handler to fire every 100 ms?

Can a custom control NEW Sub be the only one that executes when Inheriting from an existing control please?I am Inheriting from TabControl and I do not want the base New Sub called, is this possible?In other words, I do not want TabPage1 and TabPage2 to be added.A Form has an Activated Sub which runs once a Form is activated.It is a pity that Microsoft have not got such a method in the baseControl Class otherwise I could have used it within a custom TabControl.

VS 2010 Fire Event On Any Textbox Change On Form?

May 10, 2012

I have a form with over 100 textboxes that are set in multiple groupboxes and that number grows as I continue working. I am trying to get an event to fire if there is a keydown on any one of the textboxes. other than individually adding all 100 textboxes to the handler, is there a way for me to create a single event that handles all textbox.keydown events on the form?

I want to run something like the code below every time a textbox on my form changes. The code rules out text boxes within groupboxes that I don't want to fire.

If TypeName(SplitContainer1.ActiveControl) = "TextBox" and InStr(ctrl.Parent.Name, "GroupP1Payoffs") = 0 _
and InStr(ctrl.Parent.Name, "GroupP2Payoffs") = 0 and InStr(ctrl.Parent.Name, "GroupP1LoanDetails") = 0 Then

Combo Box On A Tab Control SelectedIndexChanged Event Doesn't Fire Until Tab Is Selected?

Jan 24, 2012

I am using VS2008, vb.net, Windows forms project.I have a combo box control on a tab control.The selected value of the combo box is bound to a binding source.The data source of the binding source is a typed dataset.I set the datasource of the binding source when a record is chosen in a data grid control.Since the combo box is bound to the binding source, this should set the selected value of the combo box, and fire the initial SelectedIndexChanged event.Therefore, I remove the SelectedIndexChanged event handler for the combo box before I set the datasource of the binding source, and add the handler again after the datasource is set.

Conflict Between Paint And Horizontal Scroll Event Handlers In Windows Form User Control

If you click on any of the Edit Buttons and move the Horizontal Scroll, the values as they change in the Label_Values are off by one when you release the slider button. I think this is a timing problem between the Paint handler and the Horizontal Scroll event handler at the very bottom of the User Control code. Sorry I didn't eliminate

Asp.net - Hidden/Shown AsyncFileUpload Control Doesn't Fire Server-Side UploadedComplete Event

May 26, 2010

I recently came across the AsyncFileUpload control in the latest (3.0.40412) release of the ASP.Net Ajax Control Toolkit. There appears to be an issue when using it in a hidden control that is later revealed, such as a <div> tag with visible=false.

Example:

Page code -

<%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="act" %>

[Code].....

I have a breakpoint on the UploadedComplete event but it never fires. However, if you take the AsyncFileUpload control out of the <div>, making it visible at initial page render, the control works as expected.

So, is this a bug within the AsynchUploadControl, or am I not grasping a fundamental concept (which happens regularly)?

Custom Event In User Control

May 10, 2011

I've got a page (aspx) that contains a usercontrol (ascx).On postback of the aspx, I'd like to read some control values in the ascx. So upon reading some good articles, I created an event in my aspx that fires on postback.The event handler is in the ascx, and simply writes the values I'm interested in to the viewstate so that the parent page can read them.The problem is my event handler never gets hit, even though I see the event is raised as I step through the code. So my code bombs when trying to read the viewstate (which is empty)[code]Oh, did I happen to mention I'm dynamically loading the ascx? :)

Custom Control - Signature Not Matching For Event

Sep 24, 2009

I'm using a third party grid control which I took and inherited to create some custom properties and events to it. Now when I tried to use this custom control on one of my forms one of the Events that I try to use keeps giving me an error and saying that the signature of the event does not match. It's only for this particular event and it doesn't give me the problem on every form I use this control on. To fix the problem, I constantly have to clean/rebuild the project with the custom grid control and then clean/build the project using the grid control. I'm using VS 2005 and the grid control I'm using is called iGrid.NET made by a company called 10Tec.

The exact error I get is below.
Method 'Private Sub iGridFlightInfo_BeforeCommitEdit(sender As Object, e As TenTec.Windows.iGridLib.iGBeforeCommitEditEventArgs)' cannot handle Event 'Public Event BeforeCommitEdit(sender As Object, e As TenTec.Windows.iGridLib.iGBeforeCommitEditEventArgs)' because they do not have the same signature.

User Control Custom Event Program

Jan 16, 2010

I had this new idea for a user control Sliding Bar/Panel. See screenshot. So I quickly whipped it up but I've got this problem that I cannot figure out why it does not work. Because I wanted to make it nice and tidy I desided to use a Class (Header) and created a TypeConverter (HeaderConverter)

Code:
Public Class HeaderConverter : Inherits ExpandableObjectConverter
Protected SortOrder() As String
Public Sub New()
SortOrder = New String() {"Text", "Depth"}
End Sub
[Code] .....
and goes to the RaiseEvent but nothing happens Why?

I know I could put properties on the Container control to access the ctnbutton Control that is embedded into the control but I thought this might be a nicer way.

VS 2010 Custom Control KeyPress Event

Jun 20, 2011

I was asked to create an application that has a custom control that acts as a button. I managed to do almost all the requirements except the one for the KeyPress event. The customer wants to click the "Alt + C (for example)" to trigger the button click event in this case for a Cancel button. I did the code and it works fine ONLY when that custom control has the focus on it. But when it loses it, it doesn't. I don't know how to make the form accepts that KeyPress and sends to the custom control. I tried to set the form's KeyPreview property of the form to Ture but it didn't work too.

By the way, I know that it would work by writing the code in the KeyPress of the form but that's not the requirement because the user control will be used as a standalone component for many projects.

Prevent Validating/Validated Event From Firing In Custom Textbox?

Oct 28, 2009

I have a custom text box component (inherits from system.windows.forms.textbox) that I created in vb.net (2005) that handles the input of numeric data. It works well.

I would like to suppress the validating and validated events from firing if the number hasn't changed. If a user is tabbing through the form and tabs from the text box, the validating/validated events are fired.

I was thinking that the text box could cache the value and compare it to what is listed in the text property. If they are different, then I would want the validating/validate events to fire. If they are the same, nothing is fired.

I can't seem to figure out how to suppress the event. I have tried overriding the OnValidating event. That didn't work.

Update:

Here is the custom text box class. The idea is that I want to cache the value of the text box on the validate event. Once the value is cached, the next time the user tabs through the box, the validating event will check to see if the _Cache is different from the .Text. If so that is when I would like to raise the validating event to the parent form (as well as the validated event). If the _cache is the same, then I don't want to raise the event to the form. Essentially the text box will work the same as a regular text box except that the validating and validated method are only raised to the form when the text has changed.

Public Class CustomTextBox
#Region "Class Level Variables"
Private _FirstClickCompleted As Boolean = False 'used to indicate that all of the text should be highlighted when the user box is clicked - only when the control has had focus shifted to it

[Code]....
