TableAdapter FillBy Query With Parameters Doesn't Work With LIKE Operator

Jan 19, 2010

Banging my head against a wall here. I have a query that looks like this.

SELECT FirstName, LastName, Address
FROM Members
WHERE FirstName LIKE 'JOE%'

That works absolutely fine in query wizard and the DataTablePreview data window. However, when I do this.

SELECT FirstName, LastName, Address
FROM Members
WHERE FirstName LIKE ?

I get nothing when I run the fillby method. If I change the LIKE to =.

SELECT FirstName, LastName, Address
FROM Members
WHERE FirstName = ?

Everything works great. I need to get LIKE working though so I can wildcard search.

I'm using the SQL server OLE db connections if that means anything.

UPDATE

Using the LIKE operator doesn't work at all. When I just swap out = for LIKE. Nothing is returned.

Binding DataGridView To TableAdapter Query That Takes Parameters?

Aug 3, 2009

I'm trying to bind a datagridview to a tableadapter which contains a query that requires parameters (for the WHERE statement of the query). The datasource is a SQL Server database. When I bind the datagridview in design view, it does not let me choose which tableadapter method I would like to use. The way I've been fixing this is to go into the code behind that form, where Visual Studio puts in some auto-generated code that fills a datatable in the dataset and I change the method that it's using there and put in my parameters. I don't think this is the proper way to do it, however, especially because sometimes that code doesn't even get generated! My other solution is to just programatically bind the datagridview to a datatable which I have filled using the tableadapter. This seems like more work than it should be, though.

Pass In A Variable To A Tableadapter.fillby()

Apr 15, 2011

I need to create a fillby method that includes a variable. I know how to create the query with known information example:

SELECT CadetPhoto, CaseID, CaseManager, ContractRate, DOB, DormAssignment, FirstName, Gender, GraduationDate, HomeCounty, InductionDate, JBCNumber, LastChange, LastName, MiddleName, PID, Race, RefferingPO, SSN, SchoolID, Shots FROM Cadets WHERE (GraduationDate
IS NULL)

But i need something more like

SELECT CadetPhoto, CaseID, CaseManager, ContractRate, DOB, DormAssignment, FirstName, Gender, GraduationDate, HomeCounty, InductionDate, JBCNumber, LastChange, LastName, MiddleName, PID, Race, RefferingPO, SSN, SchoolID, Shots FROM Cadets WHERE (JBCNumber
= Variable)

Where the variable is passed in when the method is called.

How do I set that variable when writing the select statement?

How do I pass in the JBCNumber when the method is called?

OledbDataReader Doesn't Work With Union Query In Access DB?

Sep 21, 2011

I have two tables say "Table1" and "Table2". I made a UNION query and saved it as "AllTimesFailure". It is worth mentioning, I am using Access DB. When I am trying to fetch the records from AllTimesFailure through oledbDataReader, it says "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'AllTimesFailure'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly.". I double checked query name and found correct but the problem still exists. when I run the same query as I pass through my command object, it works fine in Access query analyzer and fetches records normally.

TableAdapter Lost Parameters?

Feb 1, 2011

INSERT INTO Status
(ScheduleID, StatusID, Name, Color)
VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?)

Here, Name is a string and the other are integers. The generated signature however looks like this:

InsertQuery(int Color, string Param2, string Param3, string Param4)

Which does not match the query, either in name or order of parameter types.How can this happen? Any fixes? It also throws back errors at runtime for type mismatches, which don't occur when the parameters are in the 'correct order' in the query builder.

Access Database And Using A Parameter Query With The LIKE Operator To Return All Rows That Match Query?

The query does not return any data in vb, but when run from access with same string, there is data returned.The connection to the database is done correctly, as I am able to return data with various other queries.

PerformClick() Doesn't Work - How To Make It Work

Feb 2, 2011

I have an application that requires data be entered, and after entering, a button is clicked to process that data. Clicking the button works just as it should--the data is processed properly. In constructing a test module, I provide a set of data values, followed by:

btnWhatever.PerformClick()

Nothing happens. I have used this syntax for years, and it has always worked flawlessly. I have triple checked everything else and isolated the problem to the failure of the PerformClick(). The PerformClick() is in a test subroutine that does nothing but fill textboxes and labels with default data, then calls the PerformClick() on the button to begin processing. Again, the button works fine, the data is entered as it should be, but the PerformClick() does not fire the click event.

String.Contains Doesn't Require Parameters In C#?

Dynamically Building LINQ Query Using OR Operator In VB

Where((this = 1 AND that = 2) OR (this = 1 AND that = 4) OR (this = 2 AND that = 4))

but the problem is the number will have to be determined dynamically at runtime, and added using a loop, like

for each item in myItems
query = query.OR (this = item.a AND this = item.b)
next
