Tools To Build A Huge Database?

I have a past experience with visual Foxpro and SQL. Now, I need to build a database with multiple data files (say 100 files), each data file with millions of records, each record with dozens of fields.Then, each data file is linked with other files by using different fields. Primary data is in English. Then there would be a translation of the English data is in another language. Primary data in English is stored in separate files whereas the translated data is stored in separate data files.

We have a set of assemblies which implement web services operations.To build the client proxies, we first build and deploy the web services (assemblies and ASMX files) on the server.Then we use wsdl.exe to point to the ASMX endpoints and generate the classes for the client proxies.I've seen that it is possible to create the proxies from wsdl files (instead of asmx endpoints) using wsdl.exe or disco.exe.Is there a tool to generate wsdl files or event better proxy classes directly from the server assemblies without the need to use a web server?
1) This is a somewhat large project that has been in development for over a couple of years now. The decision to use ASMX web services was made before the existence of WCF.
2) I already thought about writing our own proxy generator and that may be an option if we don't find a tool that does it.
3) We still want to bind to the WSDL contract. What I'm trying to avoid is having a dependency on a web server during the build process.
4) We already auto-generate the proxies in our automated build which runs in TFS Build and that has not been an issue per se. The issue, as I was told, is having to split the build in two parts: server & client. There may be alternatives to avoid the split using some fancy MSBUILD task, but my knowledge on that matter is limited.
5) I do expect the build to brake on TFS Build if the client side code and server side code don't match during compilation. That should have been addressed on the developer's machine before check-in.
6) We have strict control over the server and the client parts. This set of web services serve as a back-end to a Click Once Windows Forms application. Everything runs on an intranet. Every time the contract changes, it is done in tandem with a new version of the client application.
7) WCF is not an option in the short term for this set of web services. When I joined the project over a year ago I was given the task of creating a new set of web services for interoperability with other internal systems. Those web services were designed upfront to be easily upgradable to WCF once upper management allowed us to use WCF. I'll have to take a look into svcutil.exe, but if it does what we need, I'll have another point in trying to convince upper management to adopt WCF.

I was reading from a book, and there's a way of creating database and accessing its tables using tools available in IDE. i-e DataSet, BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator. Is this the correct way of using database or through the code??

I have a connection to an access database, I have used the data sources tool provided because in this particular instance I don't want to do much with it other than display the records (which I can do) and edit them (which I'm haveing some trouble with).I have created a system whereby the database is connected to using the preset tools available like; BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator etc.
I also have a button for edit. This doesn't work and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this? I can't really provide any code for this, because I didn't code the connection by hand and the code I have been attempting to use for editting the records in the database doesn't even sort of work.

I'm trying to make a form that allows users to register new tools with the database. I know how to update the sql server with that information, but there's quite a bit of code that accompanies specific tools (which alter labels on textboxes, etc.) Is it possible to programmatically update the software according to information put into a 'add new tool' form without touching the source code?

I'm am wanting to get out of access dbs and into something more solid, ive heard that sqlite or mysql are great database tools for your applications. I am also looking for a database with a GUi to manage the database more easily and links on how to incorporate the database into my projects, etc. So any links,videos, suggestions i'd like to hear them all.

I am really stugling with this an was hoping that someone has done this in the past and can lend some guidance, I have had a look on Google but I only seem to find examples of one parent and one child.Anyway back to the problem, I have a treeview on a form and I want to allow the user to create a tree structure of their choice. What I mean by that is no limit to parent and child combinations, so basically have the same functionality as in Window Explorer.Now comes the problem, what I want to be able to do is store this tree view hierarchy in a database, so that when they add a new node to the treeview it is stored in the database at the correct level. Then if the user closes the form and re-opens it loads the treeview hierarchy from the database.

Trying to build a front end for a new database I built at work, and I am having a problem.
This code is supposed to try to add a new customer to the database...in the
"btnSaveCustomerToDatabase_Click" VStudio is throwing "Reference to a non shared member

I'm a Quite new to Visual Basic 2008. I have to build a database application for one of my assignments and one of the problems I'm having is to build a form that will be used to search a customer from a Customers table. The database is from access2007.
I have to have 4 radio buttons on the form which will be the options to search the customer by, so I can search by Customer ID, Customer Name, City and postcode. When I select one of those options I need to enter the phrase I'm looking for within a text box I have called TextBoxSearch then press a command button to perform that search but I'm not sure how to do this.
The customer ID is the 1st row, Customer name is the 3rd row, City is the 4th row and the postcode is the 5th row. How do i tell the program to go to that row and grab the detials based on the text entered from the text box? and display only those detials on the datagrid view?

I am creating a Library Cataloging program for a local charity using Visual Basic.I have built the basic data table into the VB Project and I would like to populate it with the existing data that I have in the excel sheet containing the current catalogue. There are approximately 1000 records to import and I don't fancy inputing them by hand so I was wondering if anyone knows an easy way of porting the data across.

I am trying to create a button on a form that will open a connection to a database and list all the tables in the database inside a listbox. Everything I have read indicates I can associate a single table to a form, and have no idea how to:
a. Create code for the button to access all the tables in the database.
b. Display that list in a list box.
The text that I am using is murach's ADO.NET 3 database programming with VB2010, and I am less that thrilled with it.

I have been writing code fore a rather large project in the past mounts And Im beginning to think about arcitecture of the program... Its just a complete mess. I dont know how to tackle so much code..Its beginning to be impossible to debug.Basically Im doing the following prosidures. Importing several a Excel files and getting the rfrequency data from these files..Displaying them in a litview and a datatable... so you are able to edit them..Doing some calculation and exporting the results back to a xls file.Problem is now that im going to add more functionallity to the program,. What im woundering about is, is there some good unofficial guides on how to program with OOP?

Is there a way of storing and performing mathematical functions with such large numbers? Is it even possible on my home computer? I have a huge .txt file which contains X & Y data seperated by serialization. Each serialization contains 1K x and y data points, the text file is about lines 1,340,000 long. Sometimes I need to go into the .txt file and find certain sets of data so I can plot and overlay them which gets tedious. I am going to write an application that I can just write the serialization into a text box on a form and and it will seach all of the txt files for the right data, put them into arrays, and then load them up into excel. My question is how would I search the .txt file for the correct serialization? Would I first read it into an array and then try and split it that way, or is there a way to just open the .txt file and search for the serialization without putting it into an array first?

In .NET, the Generics Lists have a sort function that accepts IComparer or Comparison. I'd like to sort just part of a list. Hopefully I can specify the start index, count of elements to sort, and a lambda function. It looks like you can only use lambda functions to do this if you're sorting the entire list. Is that right or did I miss something?
