View 1 RepliesWe have a set of assemblies which implement web services operations.To build the client proxies, we first build and deploy the web services (assemblies and ASMX files) on the server.Then we use wsdl.exe to point to the ASMX endpoints and generate the classes for the client proxies.I've seen that it is possible to create the proxies from wsdl files (instead of asmx endpoints) using wsdl.exe or disco.exe.Is there a tool to generate wsdl files or event better proxy classes directly from the server assemblies without the need to use a web server?
1) This is a somewhat large project that has been in development for over a couple of years now. The decision to use ASMX web services was made before the existence of WCF.
2) I already thought about writing our own proxy generator and that may be an option if we don't find a tool that does it.
3) We still want to bind to the WSDL contract. What I'm trying to avoid is having a dependency on a web server during the build process.
4) We already auto-generate the proxies in our automated build which runs in TFS Build and that has not been an issue per se. The issue, as I was told, is having to split the build in two parts: server & client. There may be alternatives to avoid the split using some fancy MSBUILD task, but my knowledge on that matter is limited.
5) I do expect the build to brake on TFS Build if the client side code and server side code don't match during compilation. That should have been addressed on the developer's machine before check-in.
6) We have strict control over the server and the client parts. This set of web services serve as a back-end to a Click Once Windows Forms application. Everything runs on an intranet. Every time the contract changes, it is done in tandem with a new version of the client application.
7) WCF is not an option in the short term for this set of web services. When I joined the project over a year ago I was given the task of creating a new set of web services for interoperability with other internal systems. Those web services were designed upfront to be easily upgradable to WCF once upper management allowed us to use WCF. I'll have to take a look into svcutil.exe, but if it does what we need, I'll have another point in trying to convince upper management to adopt WCF.
binding navigators, datagrid view, binding source are all sql database parts.Will these parts still work if you havent got sql on you pc and your not using an database file (.log and .mfd) and your not coding to them, im using MS Jet/Oledb to code to Excel.What not to put on an Employee evaluation: This employee has hit rock bottom and shows signs of starting to dig.
View 2 RepliesI have a past experience with visual Foxpro and SQL. Now, I need to build a database with multiple data files (say 100 files), each data file with millions of records, each record with dozens of fields.Then, each data file is linked with other files by using different fields. Primary data is in English. Then there would be a translation of the English data is in another language. Primary data in English is stored in separate files whereas the translated data is stored in separate data files.

View 16 RepliesI was reading from a book, and there's a way of creating database and accessing its tables using tools available in IDE. i-e DataSet, BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator. Is this the correct way of using database or through the code??
View 2 RepliesI have a connection to an access database, I have used the data sources tool provided because in this particular instance I don't want to do much with it other than display the records (which I can do) and edit them (which I'm haveing some trouble with).I have created a system whereby the database is connected to using the preset tools available like; BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator etc.
I also have a button for edit. This doesn't work and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this? I can't really provide any code for this, because I didn't code the connection by hand and the code I have been attempting to use for editting the records in the database doesn't even sort of work.
I'm trying to make a form that allows users to register new tools with the database. I know how to update the sql server with that information, but there's quite a bit of code that accompanies specific tools (which alter labels on textboxes, etc.) Is it possible to programmatically update the software according to information put into a 'add new tool' form without touching the source code?
View 4 RepliesI'm am wanting to get out of access dbs and into something more solid, ive heard that sqlite or mysql are great database tools for your applications. I am also looking for a database with a GUi to manage the database more easily and links on how to incorporate the database into my projects, etc. So any links,videos, suggestions i'd like to hear them all.
View 9 RepliesOkay i have been looking around for some tutorials on databinding by code but all the ones i find use vb's built in function to create the connection to the database and then the binding but i need to do it manually. I am totally new to databinding as in i only learned about it from a previouse thread and have been fiddling since.

So im kind of going blind here, i dont know whats going wrong or if im even using the correct dim statment for the binding,
I developed an application with old VB form and binding the data from Oracle database into VB form. Actually, I tried to bind the data more than 35000 records in to grid. But, it takes more than half an hour and also form was hanged and there is no output. Can you please let me know the solution to fix it and bind the data without any hang in my application. What are the steps to be followed to fix it?
View 1 RepliesI'm fairly new to VB.net and WPF (and programming in general), so please bear with me. I'm attempting to write a useful database app for my business as a learning project. I did a draft in WinForms, referring to the (very good) Murach book, but am now trying to re-write it with a WPF UI and cleaner code.
I think I understand the basics of WPF binding, but am tearing my hair out trying to find a simple way of binding to parent details - which I would have thought was a very basic scenario, but I can't find anything on it. For example, let's say I havea 'Customers' table with CustomerID, Name, various contact details and then foreign keys CityID and GroupID;
[Code]...
And then just moving to the first record (as there will only be one). Is this a normal method of looking up a customer? I could also use this method by getting the foreign keys from my customer row and filling the different tables in the dataset all using parameterised queries, then just binding to each table separately - but again, seems very messy.
In a test project I was able to add a datasource to a form, bind it to the datagridview and manipulate it as needed. Now moving forward to the actual project, is it possible to add the datasource to a class and sort through the data for use in the class?[url]...
View 9 RepliesI am using System.Data.SQLite with VB 2010 to bind to a SQLite database. Everything works just as it did in VB2005. I drug a table from the DataSources Window onto the form and automatically generated the binding navigator, table adapters, etc. I can preview data in the TableAdapter but when I run the app no data is read into the grid. The same thing happens with the details view. The BindingNavigator shows 0 of 0 records. There are 27 records visible when I preview the data. The code follows:

I've read jmcilhinney's code bank submission on retrieving and saving database data and have been using this a lot.
What i would like to know now is how/if i should be using the built in VS method of databinding with bindingsource, bindingnavigator and dataset controls etc for anything?
What can i do better with this method and what are the limitations?
Also, i'm using a function that reads an ini file to set the path in the connection string, can i still do this using the data binding method?
I've read a fair bit on using databases with VB but the above is still a bit confusing to me.
I have one textbox at form named "Ord ID". I have bind database table with datagridview control and now on load event data is displaying correctly. In Datagridview there is one column which is checkbox type, suppose at datagrid there are 10 records displaying, and I have tick 6 checkbox for 6 records, so when I press add button then the value exist in textbox automatically comes to only six records of Datagridview column named "StatusID".
View 1 RepliesWhen the program is executed, the datagridview populate data and also the textboxes(example StockNumber,Description) and when i typed words in the search textbox ,the datagridview filters the matching words.When I clicked the item in the datagridview the textboxes does not changed it didnt show the information...
what the solution for my problem..i need to display the information in the textboxes when i clicked the item in the datagridview. Private Sub txtreg_delsrch_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtreg_delsrch.TextChanged

i try to bind database to combo box but having (Object reference not set to an instance of an object) error during the running.
I have a microsoft database file i'm currently working with in a project. I have already added the data source and all seems to be going well. Quick question though? What I'm looking to do was, have a button called find, when I click it I want it to bring up an input box and use the text the user types in to search through my binding source of names, if it's there I need to display its record to the textbox and if it's not there I need to print out a messagebox saying its not there. I've been told I should trim the usersResponse and look through the binding source table to see if it exists then go from there, but i'm not sure how to do that.
Here's what I have so far:
Dim Message As String = "Enter the name to find."
Const Title As String = "Database Project - Find"
Const UserEnteredNullData As String = "No input for find."
[CODE]...
My question is, how would I go about searching through my binding source to see if it exists and how would I display it to the name text box?
Is it possible to connect ado.net to an xml file and then make the xml file a data source on my project where I can bind controls to it in designer mode?

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
How can I write a connection string? I has four different computer that can be connect via ethernet.How can I maintain a inserting data if to computer insert on same table at a single time..??

View 4 RepliesI am using two autocomplete textboxes and both of them are binding data from the same table. What I want is when I select an item from the autocomplete drop down list of textbox1 not to have the textbox2 value set. Example :
Column1 Column2
Row1 value1 value2
Row2 value3 value3
When I select value1 for textbox1 I get automatically value2 in textbox2. I do not want that.I want when I select value1 for textbox1 , textbox2 to remain empty until I select a value for it (it maybe value3)

View 1 RepliesI am working on a CMS system for my business, and need to be able to generate notifications dynamically into a control panel. Please note, I am using .NET 2.0, coding with VB and my data is all held on a MySQL database.This is pretty simple for most aspects, but as the whole thing is dynamic some things are proving more difficult.I have a set of tags which are dynamically generated with a repeater as follows:
<asp:Repeater runat="server" ID="locationRepeater">
<ItemTemplate>
<p id='locationNotification' title="<%# Container.DataItem %>" runat='server'>
COUNT DATA NEEDS TO GO HERE
</p>
[Code]...
The data is really, really, simple, all I need to be able to do is query a table on my MySQL database for COUNT of ID WHERE locationName = Container.DataItem during each loop of the repeater... but I don't know how to do this.I'm thinking maybe I have to do this first, create a table in memory somehow, but I am afraid I have no idea how to achieve this.
Has anyone got any examples of a similar thing, it's kind of binding to a repeater from two datasources... each task is very simple, but I don't know how to put it all together!
I am trying not to become intimidated or give up.I created a simple database and added stored procedures to read the data on a Windows form using Visual Basic in VS 2010.First I tried the Data Grid Example and all worked, I was able to view the data using a connection string to call the Stored procedure.I have stepped it up a notch by trying to bind data to form controls and I am getting this error message when I try to navigate through the data.
System.NullReferenceException was unhandled
