Asp.net - Add New Row To Database Table From Datagrid
Nov 19, 2009I am trying to update a database table from my datagrid using an event handler and ItemCommand. I manage to call the routine and everything is working fine except the text that is inserted into my database is empty. I managed to track this back to the text not being passed from my datagrids footer to the sql parameters. I tried using a string first and then passing that to the parameters but they were also empty. I am accessing the control using the following line.
sqlcmd.Parameters.Add("@GoodsDesc", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = CType(e.Item.FindControl("txtGoodsDesc"), TextBox).Text
The control itself is defined using

It's like the text in the footer isnt being tied to the control before I call it.

Apr 7, 2011Basically I have a DataGrid on a form that is used to monitor attendance. I do this by making the data types for the relevant fields boolean so that at runtime, they appear as check boxes that the user can tick. If the user ticks this then the table in MySQL saves this as a 1, or if it is left unticked the table saves it as a 0. I then use those values in a mathematical equation to calculate weekly attendance.
My problem, however, is with saving changes to the table itself. Initially I set a primary key which was fine and allowed me to save. However I needed to turn that primary key to a foreign key and when I do that, I am told that I need a primary key. Now I got round that before when I was entering data into a text box and in my SQL query I'd simply put as my value being " & (name of textbox).Text & " but when I am entering data straight onto the datagrid, I am unsure of what to put in my SQL statement.
StudentID (Was primary key but turned it into foreign key)

My friend from college told me it's probably because there are multiple records in the database and can't distinguish between the two (as perhaps there's no WHERE clause in that UpdateCommand) but I doubt it as it was working perfectly well with multiple records when StudentID was a primary key.

Jan 19, 2010We use an ERP program in conjuction with SQL server and lots of tables that keep track of product records customers and all these kinds of stuff. I am building a fairly simple Warehouse Inventory Application that warehouse employees will use to count and inventory stock on hand from products around the warehouse and then check if any quantity errors occur between stock on hand and logistic quantities.I have created a custom Inventory table that I would populate with records like {stock_code, Description, Quantity_remain, quantity_avail}. Those records already exist in 2 different tables in my database. The aim is that I want my program to fetch daily 10 random codes from the stck table, and records about their quantities,bringing together the "columns" that my new custom table has +2 more editable columns: inventory, date, user with a query like this:[code]
As you can imagine my custom table contains the exact same fields as the query suggests + 3 more.I use the the stck table to fetch product info like its code,description, its group_code, categ_code, and then I outer join the stck_x_th that contains records concerning quantities remaining or available asociated with each product code and the "places" those quantities reside in the warehouse.Then, store them in a datagridview control, with only one editable column -inventory- (user and date columns are auto-populated with default values), and then when the user fills out the inventory quantites, I want to save the datagrid "as it is" in my new custom table.I am creating a databound gridview control using one table adapter (which refers to the inventory table). Then I add to my table adapter using "add query" the forementioned query with a fillby method to populate the Datagrid (and therefore my Table in SQL) with the exact same values my query returned from the different tables. But whenever I try to update the table concurrency exceptions raise.It works like a charm if I enter the values in the grid cells manually, without populating the grid control with the new fillby method my self but not if I populate the grid via a query and then hit update.
Excel Dataset - Preview In DataGrid And Save To SQL Table
Mar 25, 2009I am creating an app to grab data from excel and preview in datagrid. From the datagrid I want to be able to save to a sql table. I have the excel data in a gridview via a dataset. What I am having trouble with is the sql statement. I know how to insert data, but I can't work out how seperate the data in the dataset to pass it into individual Values of the insert statement. Or should it be done another way? NOTE: I is not essential that the excel data be previewed in the gridview if this would make life easier for me.

Print Avery 5160 Labels From DataGrid Table?
Mar 21, 2011I designed a simple Table using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition in the GridView design. I am able to run the application and enter names and addresses then print them out in record view. I do not need to connect or save to a database, or set up any type of datasets and recordsets. Its is a simple DataTable design from the datagridview where I can run the application, then enter information and print it out, that's all. Now, I need to go a step further by adding another print button for printing labels, Avery 5160.
My question is not so much how to do it, but after running the application and entering the names and addresses, is it possible and how much coding will it require using the same GridView Table and the information I entered to result in a print output in Avery label format? If so, can someone please direct me in the right steps to get started, at the least?Currently the table is set up where I enter names and addresses in separate cells under each column and row, as shown in the example below. I arranged this so I can print out a record of entries where I am able to print preview and print a list of names and addresses in record view. Here I've accomplished my task and get the results I need when I run the application and print.

So then, using the same application will I need to customize the cells to print out in an address label format, such as a similar format below, for multiple entries? Please check out this application at [URL] which is an excellent online label source but the format is set up different in that you enter the complete names and addresses into each cell. For my purposes, it is useful but requires more data entry and additional steps. Can I do something similar to this with the table I'm using in it's current design by setting up another print button and customizing the cells to get the proper format to print labels?

Running Insert Statement To Pass Data From DataGrid To Table
Mar 21, 2009I'm trying to run an INSERT statement to pass data from a datagrid to a table I have on my database. The problem I have is that the table has 6 columns and the datagrid has only 3. So I only want to pass those 3 columns but I get the error that the other 3 columns does not accept null values. I need to change the columns to accept null values. The other problem it is that I can't pass more than 9 records, if I have more than 9 record on the DataGrid it says "object not set as an instance of a reference" and it only add 9 records if I have more than 9.
