Build Schedule From SQL Data?
Apr 12, 2010Im currently working on a major project for school that i can keep track of customers, giftcards, and primarily appointments. My current issue is how im going to build the weekly schedule page. I dont even know where to start with the ui let alone coding after that. Once i can figure out how im going to build i should be able to finish it from there.
Primarily its supposed to take info from the SQL database i have setup and from there populate the schedule on the screen. Its supposed to be like a weekly schedule with 15 minute blocks from 9 am to 9 pm for everyday of the week. The user will be able to choose the week to display from a datetimepicker control. The table holds each appointments date, time, length, cost, type, as well as an appt id for each appt and a user id to keep track of who the appt is for.

Outlook 2010 - Any Way To Send Meeting Request?
Mar 23, 2012How to find the best way to develop a way to send a meeting request with a .Net application. I'm beginning in .Net development. The thing I'd like : the user has a form where that he can fullfill with the info about the meeting. Then, the server creates a .ics file with those information. I'd like next to suggest the user to send this meeting request. So, is it possible to create a mailto with an attachement that's located on my server? Is it the best way to handle this problem? Ain't there any other possibility to interact between an app and Outlook? I'm developping in VB.Net for a web application using the framework ASP.NET MVC 3.

C# - Inter-process Communication: Named Pipes Or Status Files?
Aug 18, 2011I'm building a tool that consists of a Webservice that will run commandline tools at specific times. On average there will be running 15-20 CL tools at the same time. Every CL tool runs no longer than about 0,5-1 minute on average. The webservice needs to be able to check each CL's status every 2-3 seconds or so.
I've got some advice about how to do this; named pipes looks likes the best "technical" solution. However I'm wondering if communicating with simple very small text "status" files would be a better, less complicated and less error-risk, way. I prefer the solution that is the most resource friendly.

May 8, 2009We needed an inter-process reader/writer lock.We decided to use a file and lock the first byte using LockEx and UnlockEx. The class creates a file in the system temp folder when it is created. The file is created with readwrite access and share read|write|delete.We also specify DeleteOnClose so we don't leave loads of temp files laying around. Obviously AcquireReader and AcquireWriter call LockEx with appropriate flags and ReleaseLock calls UnlockEx.We have tested this class using a small application that you can run several instances of and it works perfectly. The application that uses it has a problem, which we have managed to re-produce in another small test app. In pseudo code it is
Create InterProcessReaderWriter
Dispose InterProcessReaderWriter without acquiring any locks
Launch a child process which takes a reader lock
The first time this runs, it works fine. If you attempt to run it again, while the child process from the first time is still holding the lock, we get an UnauthorisedAccessException when trying to open the file.This appears to be a permission issue, not a sharing violation but all the processes in this test case are running as the same user.

If the Group Name exists for the Current User, I want that group name to be displayed in a drop down list. May 3, 2010I am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release.After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?

Aug 4, 2010I have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.
I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.
1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?
2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.

Apr 27, 2009I have an application that checks valid dates from a user selected text file. This app was written in vb.net 2005.
If invalid dates or if dates are over 16 months, I populate a grid with each record where there is a problem with the date. The user can then print the content of the grid and fix the errors.
I have been asked to automate this process.
In other words, I would like my app to check within a folder to see if a file exist in that folder [c:\Datafolder\FileToProcess\Filetocheck.txt]. I would like my app to check the folder every 15 minutes.
If a file is found in that folder, then process the file automatically without user intervention. If there are errors, I will create a text file with the errors.If the file had errors I want to rename the file to FileToCheck.txt.baddates and leave it in the same directory. If the file did not have error then I want to move it to [url]...
