i have taken part in a programmers elite competition and in a group you are assigned different programs to build. i have VB and C++ im really good with C++ but i have never touched VB !! now i have a project to build this is the program i have to build ... im not asking you to do my homework. this is a little request for you smart vb people Download the P3S3 Data File For Import.txt (the file is attached.)Be sure to use industry standard prefixing on these objects (i.e. Hungarian or Pascal naming) and use camel-case naming.
I am sure this can be done, as Visual Studio is basically built this way. What I want to do is simply make a class that my other workmates can use. But rather than have it in a code form, I want to build it (partially), and then my workmate can add it into their programs (sort of, like the add reference for the .NET stuff).
I have a "ClickOnce" application and on the Splash screen I display the Version. I am also displaying the "CreationTime" (see below) that I thought was when the Build or Publish was done. Today I realized it is displaying the date/time when the application is actually installed on the PC. How do I pull the date when the this version was compiled, Built, or Published? I really do not care which -I just want a constant date the sticks with that version. I'm using VB 2005.
Right now I am building a filter based on user input (textboxes and comboboxes) by a bunch of if statements. There must be a better way. Here is my current code:

what im after is advice on writing a vb app. that compares the difference between two images captured from a cctv camera of a sports shooting target. the difference is a bullet hole in the target. i would also like the program to identify a score the bullet makes in relation to its location on the target and have that as an audio output sound file. the targets will be uniform so the template the program has never changes.
Lately I've had to do a bit of programming in VB .NET. It hasn't been too difficult, but the lack of proper documentation or good tutorials has been annoying me. I'm used to finding a lot of relevant info when I google a programming question, or term, or method name - but it's been more difficult with VB .NET. Anyone know of any good tutorial/documentation sites for VB .NET?
I've created a simple tool using a datagrid and adding functionality for cutting, pasting, deleting, adding rows, etc. The select users can create new, save, edit, delete from the database. Is there a better way to do this with some of the new technology from visual studio?
I noticed how many of Visual Basic programmers want to develop a webbrowser. So now I had the thought: why not put our knowledge together and make a webbrowser that every other webbrowser developer gets a headache from trying to understand how we pulled it? i wanted to ask how to make picturebox1 ,to which functions are already assigned, perform the same function as picturebox2 ,to which no functions are assigned.For example:I have already made picturebox1 and have assigned it alot of function like when play button is pressed then picturebox1.visible = true and when we press pause button picturebox1.visible = false. So now i decided to make a theme and have to remove the picturebox1 and want to allow the picturebox2 to havefunction of picturebox1.But when i disable the theme the function of picturebox1 should go back to picturebox1.
i am developing a software on which 3 junior programmers are also working. there are some modules that i dont want to share with junior programmers. but some function in theses modules can be used by them. is it possible to hide modules from junior programmers.

We develop small applications for various customers. I now got a task to set up some coding guidelines for in-house and external programmers. (Management know nothing about development and only see the problem in transferring projects from one developer to another. Customers pay by the hour and development is a small part of total project so code quality is a non-issue)My first step is to set up guidelines for C# and VB.Net (SQL will probably come later).(Most code here is created with CTRL-CCTRL-V and testing is done with F5.I have tried to introduce unit testing / code review but that is not going to happen. So im making a text replacer for PSP Programmers to easily convert the codes to NitePR format. None of you know what that is but w/e Heres my problem I load the text file that has the code into a text box.

im making an application in vb.net (duh!) anyway i have created and coded the whole project and it performs exactly as i want it to (i dont need code help). my problem lies with the fact that my project is 2-3 parts
1.a setup form that gathers inital data about the enviroment stores this data encrypted in a config file. after inital setup this form is not displayed again. but needs to be run on both computers
2. the second form is the real application form im in the process of turning this part in to a background service anyway this form is the one that establishes the connection between two nodes it works correctly
3. the config files
anyway here is my problem i want to make this application distributional with just one file the (.exe) and have this .exe make everything else happen. it runs the setup form and creates the first config file which it does then it needs to produce a copy of just the second form and the config file to transfer to workstation #2 that will run independtly without the whole application which i cant make happen then it needs to turn both workstations application on by only starting one on either computer and invoke the other computer to start its corrosponding app also no idea how to make this happen any ideas or suggestions as to where to look to try to find my answers.im thinking i might need to make two seperate applications (a setup app, and the running app) and include them both in a project and use the setup.exe to to package them together this is a little side project that im making for my self to use to make programming a little easier so i plan on giving it out to some fellow students to test and tell me what they think so im not really worried about ease of use or complicated procedures yet but if it turns out to work and actually be of use to anyone else i would be willing to rewrite it to distribute to the masses but for now i just want it to work for me.
I'm trying to match up a specific group name and see if it exists for the currently logged in user using Active Directory roles. If the Group Name exists for the Current User, I want that group name to be displayed in a drop down list. Example: If current user is in BIG Group, display BIG in drop down list.Problem: All I am getting is SIDs and I'm not able to get anything to match up to the group name and nothing will show up in the drop down list.I also get the following Error:Error: Object variable or WIth block variable not set.How do I fix this?? here is the code I am using:

I started with VB 6.0 back when i was 14, I was mostly into coding programs that interacted with other programs. Recently I installed VB.net 2005 pro i got from school, and i grabbed few source codes that teach show interaction, I feel so dumb, i dont remember anything lol. It be great if you guys can share some source codes and other stuff in this field. also other day i was in dream spark and i am able to get copy of VS.net 2010 ultimate edition, are there a lot of major changes, cause i got 2 thick book for VB.net 2005..
When you've finished a program and you're trying to distribute it to the mass public. How is the best way to go about doing this? What sites would you post your program on and getting the word out that there is a new program on the block and it does xyz. This is directed to freeware so there wouldn't be any advertising.

It's playing in the background since the Form is hidden. When I play itin Debug, everything works fine. When I run the app outside Debug, I get this error: [URL] The Music File is there, but strangely, there comes this weird error.
A particular VB.NET project is actually throwing 'Build Failed' But when I try rebuilding again it says 'Rebuild Succeeded'. It keeps alternating this behavior. Kind of random. Any vbc.exe issue of long locking the PDB or xml files?
I have a vb.net 2008 windows form application that I was just assigned to work on. how to maintain and test changes to both the pre build and the post build events? Can you tell me how to test these events? My postbuild event, I believe calls a project file in the solution file that wraps files together in a bundle in debug mode. Can you tell me how the posbuild event works and when it is called?
I am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release.After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?
