Update Timestring() When The Timezone Is Changed?
Sep 8, 2010
Does anyone know why the string generated by the Timestring() function remains on the old timezone time if you change the timezone whilst the application is running.
Is there a way to fix this problem without restarting the program.

I am tryng to create a simple stopwatch on a form using two button controls ("Start" and "Stop") & two text boxes - one to display the TimeString when the Start button is clicked and one to display the TimeString when the Stop button is clicked.I then want to subtract the Start Time from the Stop Time, the remainder of which should give me a total elapsed time, to be displayed in a MsgBox string.This means I have to convert the TimeString Strings to numerical values which can be manipulated to perform a time calculation, and then convert the sum value back to a string to display in the MsgBox.

I've got a gridview (ASP.net) inside of an update panel. I also have a "Save" button so that when I click "Save" it loops through all the rows of a grid view and passes the data to a stored procedure to update each row. This was too slow as sometimes I would be updating the database even though a change did not occur.
I decided to add a field in my gridview like so:
<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
<input type="hidden" id="hdnIsChanged" runat="server" />
[code]....

I am using oracle database and i already created a connection and retrieved data from my oracle DB to Datagridview using oledb commands,now my major challenge which has gotten me sick is to update any changes made in the datagridview to the oracle database. I tried using sqlcommandbuilder but failed. This code is what i used to retrieved the data from oracle and place it into the datagridview.
These are my declarations i made at the beginning of the form:
Private myDA As OleDbDataAdapter
Private myDataSet As DataSet
These are the codes inside the search button to load the retrieved data from oracle into the datagridview
Public con As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=MSDAORA.1;User ID=SYSTEM; Password=simon; database=project")

I have a content page which contains an UpdatePanel and has a combobox. When the combobox value is changed I want to change a label in my Master page. So, the main problem for me is that I don't want to make a full postback with every combobox value changing. Is there some trick to overcome full postback?

In a followup to another question I posted. I know it is possible to get a value indicating if the current system timezone is in daylight savings time. However, is it possible to specify some other timezone and determine if that timezone is in DST?

I changed my Username on my computer from i.e. "xxxxxx x xxxxx" to "Dennis"
VB 2008 during a compile gave me the following error: Error reading icon 'C:Usersxxxxxx x xxxxxAppDataRoamingMicrosoftVBExpress9.0VSProjectApplication.ico' -- The system cannot find the path specified.
The file "VSProjectApplication.ico" is in 'C:UsersDennisAppDataRoamingMicrosoftVBExpress9.0'
Somewhere in the VB2008 "configuration" files I believe that I need to manually change the old path to the new path.
I found the old path in the ".suo" file. The ".suo" file is not a text file. How can I edit the .suo file, save it so that it will work?

I have implemented the filestream feature of SQL Server 2008 in a VB.Net application. I can insert files, and then retrieve/view them just fine. However, I have huge problems trying to update a file. Eg. The user selects a file from the grid which I execute via process.start. If that file is a .txt file, the user may choose to edit it. In case that happens, I need to save the changed file back to the database. So far I have failed to do that.
What I do, is take the retrieved file, copy it (cause i got some errors about it being used), and then Process.Start it. After that, via .NET filestream, I convert the file to bytes and try to update the record. SQL Profiler and a manual SELECT on the varbinary(max) column tell me that the file is updated properly, but the very next try to retrieve it I get an unchanged file.
After that I also tried to update the file by changing its File-System Version, but the file still wouldn't seem to update. Does Anyone have a code sample of how I can achieve this operation? Like 500 sites on the internet have examples of how to Insert And Retrieve the file, but not a single example on how to update. This is how my second attempt of trying to update the file via the filesystem looks like. The code for inserting/retrieving is very similar and it works properly. [Code]

I'm reading remote eventlogs and want to store the "timegenerated" field from the win32_ntlogevent in a database.The Timegenerated field is a cim_datetime field and I can convert it with the ManagementDateTimeConverter object.This all works great if the remote computer is in the same timezone, if it's in a different timezone theManagementDateTimeConverter.todatetime converts it into the local time, but I don't want this, I want to have the real datetime (the same time as on theI use wmi to get the following remote information:
select bias,standardbias,daylightbias from win32_timezone
select daylightineffect from Win32_ComputerSystem

on my Form I have a DataViewGrid and some textboxes with a save button (they are filled with additional data of the selected row).Save is disabled first, when I change something in the textboxes the save button is enabled.When the user changes a gow in the grid, I want to ask before changing the grid row, if he wants to save (if the button is enabled).I am using RowEnter but this is too late, then the selected row already changed (and my textboxes already got new data)...What event can I use to ask if I should save stuff before the user changes a row?Something like BeforeRowChanging with a chance to cancel changing the row?

I need to parse a string with time info from one timezone and output as another string with the time info for another timezone.
ex. "19880311 23:44:35 Moscow" > "yyyyMMdd HH:mm:ss NewYork"
it must observe DST, parse the input with format string and allow output to be formatted with a formatting string the city names are not important and can be replaced with f.ex. timezone codes

I need to write some code to tell the user when daylight savings starts and ends in another timezone, this is what I came up with but it keeps selecting the last Else line. The other lines are working fine, the problem is only with the lines, daylight savings today and not tomorrow. There is probably a much neater way of doing this but I thought this would work.
Private Sub Auto_Time_Change()
Dim sydneyTime As TimeZoneInfo = (TimeZoneInfo.FindSystemTimeZoneById("AUS Eastern Standard Time"))
If TSSlblTimeZone.Text = "Normal Time" Then
If CurDate.AddDays(1).Day = "1" Then

How would I execute the above statement? When multiple dropdownlist's are handled in the same sub, how do you tell which one is actually calling the sub? The post by atconway was helpful in guiding me in a direction, but I dont understand the whole concept enough to dive into the msdn library... I would probably spend all my next 7 hours today reviewing it and still not get much further :-P

I'm trying to write a little utility which will check periodically and tell me if/when a web page's (could be any URL) content has changed. I've read the other postings but they don't really answer my question (as far as I can tell).I know for static pages there is a last-modified header. However, what about dynamic pages? I got Oli's comment that storing a hash of the contents works but that's not really idea because the page might simply have a time stamp on it (the date-time that the page was produced). Clearly, in this case, the content would be different on every single request even though nothing significant has changed.So, now I'm thinking to tie it to a percentage of 'changedness.' Something like, more than 5% changed will cause the 'changed' logic to run.

Is there a way I can add an event for when a value is changed, because, I need to add an OnDisconnected() event that detects when the mobjlistener.Connected value has changed...would I have to do a timer, is there a way I can do an event for getting disonnected?
mobjClient = New TcpClient("IP", 5000)
I would rather not add a timer, I would rather have an event that fires when mobjlistener.Connected changes, but if I can't I will go ahead and use the timer instead.The problem I have that I need to detect when this changes is because sometimes I get disconnected for an unknown reason using the TCP Multi-User Chat, it has handlers for disconnected, but whatever is causing the disconnect, it is just not detecting it, so if I could make it so that it will trigger when this is changed, then I can stop the problem I have once and for all.

Is there a simple way of tracking the change of an Mdi's children i.e. when they are created and closed, something like an event OnMdiChildListChanged (I realise this doesn't actually exist).
I am also aware that I could have a method within my Mdi that handles the creation of child forms and logs the state of them or even create an Interface that defines that a child form has a "NotifyParent" method that is then called on close of the form, but i was wondering if there was any built in events that i could plumb into?
