Process Of Designing A Computer Control Program To Control A HF Communications Receiver?
Jul 11, 2008I am in the process of designing a computer control program to control a HF communications receiver (radio), and have found a problem with the Serial port. I am using VB Express Edition 2008. This module of the program is supposed to take an input string from another part of the program, format it, break it into 4 bytes, and send it to the radio in hex form via COM port 1. The problem comes in when you try to enter a frequency with an 8 or a 9 in it. The 8 or 9 is usually replaced by 45, ex.-input 9900, receiver tune 4545. The exact same thing happens with 8's, input 8800 and receiver tune 4545. All other numbers other than 8 or 9 work fine. The strange part of it is that sometimes the 8's and 9's work, and work correctly. For instance, 900, 1900, 2900, 3900, 4900, 5900, 6900, and 7900 all work correctly. This led me to believe that is may only be when the 8 or 9 is in the first position, but that is not the case, it also shows up in other positions as well. All other frequencies that do not have 8 or 9 in them also work. I ran into this same problem with VB Express 2005, and worked on it for weeks before giving up and going back to VB6.0. This same module (with exception of the port open command) runs flawlessly under VB6. I have even tried importing the MSCOMM control from VB6, but it gives the same results. In de-bugging mode, all of the inputs, decimal and hex seem to be correct, so the problem must come in after you click the command button, but before it leaves the COM port.

Disable DataGridView Control?
Mar 30, 2010I have a dialog that gets called from time to time. It is only created once, and then shown or hidden. Depending on the current conditions, when I display it, I need to disable the controls on it so that the user does not make any changes.I have code that checks the condition and sets the enabled property to false for the controls. There is a DataGridView control on the dialog, and for some reason, it stays enabled and allows changes. Does anyone know why, or what I need to do to get it to not accept any input?

Sep 11, 2010I have a datagridview control on my form which i have populated it with values from a dataset. Now i am using a button to delete these values from the database which is working perfectly for me but the problem now is anytime i delete the old value still shows in the datagrid which shouldn't be so so i wrote the code to refresh the grid after deleting but is still not working for me as i want.
I am using this code:

But onething is the value i deleted doesn't show when the form reloads again. but at run time it still has the old value in it again.

Aug 5, 2009I've been working with this for a while now and have finally come to you for help. I have a custom control that inherits from a label and I'm trying to use it in a datagridview. I have followed this example and have tried to adapt it to my needs.
The custom control in this case is a label with a boolean type property named Value. When value is true, the label.text = "ON" and the color is red. When value is false, the label.text = "off" and the color is transparent. This is the effect I need to show in the dgv.
I have attached my developing project and would like you to take a look if you can. The project has a single form with the dgv, the custom control and a button on it. When the button is clicked the value of the custom control toggles. The control on the form changes color and text as it should, but the cell in the dvg simple changes text from FALSE to TRUE.

Sep 7, 2011I have an unbound datagrid control I am using to store inspection information. The program records the information from the user, validates the values, and saves it into a database. It will then show the last inspection data in the datagridview. The user has the option of doublclicking a row and changing values and resaving the row. The number of rows per piece inspected varies, so that is why I used the grid to show the inspection data, however, they want to see a running total of each inspection point at the bottom of the grid so when they add the new values, it will update the running totals. I can see how to add a new column for a running total, but the layout requires the sums to be in the last row of the grid. I can add the row to the grid, but I need to make sure it stays at the bottom of the grid when I add a new row, and if possible freeze the row so it is always visible like excel. The program we are re-writting is excel based so this functionality is critical for the inspector to see the running totals for each inspection point.

Can Datagridview Rows Fit Control Without Resizing
May 12, 2009I have drawn out a datagridview onto my form at a certain size.But, say I have 3 rows of data and they dont fill the grid to its bottom. So I'm left with a bunch of empty grey color stuff in the rest of the control below.Is there any simple property/method that will fit the control size to just the rows loaded, or am I being too picky?

I have two DataGridView objects which share a lot of code as well as event handlers. They are named D1 and D2 and many properties, such as column headeders etc., are set at define time. Sep 20, 2011I've built a custom user control in VS2010, incorporating two datagridviews, and asplitpanel - The idea is that there is a "Main" datagridview control, and the second is an internally controlled grid that (when shown) displays the Columns which are set as invisible. This allows the user to drag the columns onto the main grid, in order to display the columns.This all works fairly well. I've set the modifiers property on the Main DataGridView to public, so that by and large, the developers can make use of the control just like a normal DGV (albeit with an extra level to the code).
I've also created dummy events for each of the events that the DGV normally raises, and pass them through the usercontrol, so that the developers can attach to the DGV events as normal. Again, this appears to work fine.Unfortunately, I've run into a problem. I'm trying to set the RowSizeMode to DisplayedCells (or indeed any value). If I try it in the designer, it appears to retain the change until I run the application, after which the property reverts back to normal.

Mar 17, 2011I am creating a timesheet using a datagridview control, the user must enter the time in the cells for the code to process. The control however converts the data to a string even though the defaultcellstyle.format is "t" for shorttime. I need to get the control to accept time in various formats and covert it to a standard format. If the user enters 8.00 the cell should display 8:00 am, if the user enters 8p the cell should display 8:00 pm.
After entering the data the user clicks a button to process the data, the code checks each entry to ensure it is a date (using IsDate) and performs some calculations based on the times entered by the user. the information is then stored in a table. My problem is the datagridview control converts the cell entries to strings but I need it to retain the datetime format as I get a casting error when I try to use cdate to convert back to date.
