I'm making a security program that locks the users screen. I have already figured out how to disable task manager but now I need to disable the task bar from showing and the start menu. Also, trying to do an event on alt+F4 doesn't seem to stop the program from exiting. Any other solutions? This program is intended for security reasons and I am not using it for any viruses.

Edit: I'm creating a program for places like schools or library where the password for all users are the same. I already made the program go to full screen and always on top and have disabled the user from using taskbar but I can't stop the start menu from appearing.

View 6 RepliesI have a program which runs mainly though a NotifyIcon in the bottum right of my windows screen (XP). Whenever I open the ContextMenuStrip that appears when the icon is right clicked, a box also appears in the task bar. I also have nested menus inside the menu (mouse over one item leads to another menu), and each additional menu also creates a taskbar box upon appearing. So once I am at the third or fourth nested menu, there would be 3 or 4 windows appearing in the taskbar. After the menu disapears, so do the windows in the taskbar.How can I stop the taskbar from displaying boxes to represent these menus? I have done nothing in my code as far as I know to create this type of behavior. I have searched for similar problems but have found nothing similar. There is no "showintaskbar" property for these items as far as I can see, and no other property that I can find which would affect this. I have investigated the owner of the contextmenustrip since I read the owner may effect these type of behaviors, but that doesnt seem to be helpful as there isn't an owner property of the contextmenustrip.

Simply saying I've added an Notify Icon to my project and then added context menu showing up when the left mouse button is pressed. The problem is that with the context menu some blank form is showing in the taskbar. There is no such form within the project.Does anyone know why it may be happening or how to get rid of the effect? I might add that I have other context menu attached for mouse right click button and it works fine, no blank forms and such showing on the taskbar it's just the left mouse button that works that way.Here is the code that I am using to show the menu:(the visible state to false is necessary for the other menus not to pop up with the one i want... unless anyone knows better method)

I created shortcuts for some of my exe's in the program menu. For example, I might create shortcuts for a.exe, v.exe, and g.exe. By default, it aligns as a, g, v (in alphabetical order). I want to place my shortcuts in a different order, such as (v, a, g).
In short, I want to be able to change the order for the shortcuts it creates to something other than alphabetical order.

I explain: When starting the program from the application directory, it works fine, because the "Application Path" property gives the right path to find the access database located in the same directory, BUT, the problems comes when I start the program from the Windows Start Menu. When I switch from full screen without taskbar to minimizable window with taskbar everything is ok. When I try to switch back to full screen the border disappears but the taskbar is still there and the form is not aligned properly.The text at the top is cut off somewhat and there's a small margin at the right edge that shouldn't be there.I put this code in a keydown event for the form.

I recently installed WSP Builder on a machine with Visual Studio 2008 already installed.Quite expectedly, the WSP Builder sub-menu appeared (and still appears) under the Visual Studio 2008 Tools menu.Having then installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional and installed WSP Builder a second time, I can not seem to find the WSP Builder sub-menu anywhere under any of the Visual Studio 2010 menus.Can anyone throw some light on this "missing menu" problem?

I've done a lot of research and haven't found anything that works for this.
I'm running into this one very specific issue:
- I have a VB.Net 2005 Project for which I've created a Setup Project.
- In my Setup Project, I've added a shortcut on my Start Menu, that points to my Application.
- After deploying it, all works great.
- One of my users chooses to *copy* the shortcut from the Start Menu into their Desktop.
- I then create an upgrade for this Application. Again, the deployment works great. They can start my application from the Start menu.
- They double-click on their icon in the Desktop and they get a popup: Title of the message box: Problem with Shortcut Description of the message box: (X) The parameter is incorrect.
The shortcut's Target, is blank ( which I believe is the problem ).I'd love to be able to specify an actual [TARGETDIR]myApp.exe type of string as the shortcut's target in my Setup Project, but I can't do this.Instead I have to point it via UI, to my Target Application ( which I'm assuming is resolved at install-time ). The problem with this is that it appears that the shortcuts get re-evaluated every time you re-install / upgrade the application. Since my previous version is technically not installed anymore, my shortcut gets invalidaded, even though the target path is still the same and I haven't changed my executable's file name.
I finished True Tune and built it then published it, but it doesn't appear in the win7 start menu or as an icon on the desktop.

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.
The simple line:
Enabled = False
Leaves the user no options to do anything with the program.What I want is to disable everything using the given line (or if anything else), but leave a Menustrip enabled.
