Jan 1, 2010I'm using VB.NET 2008. I have a form with about 10 or so labels on it, and that could increase the more I develop my assignment. I would like to give each of these labels a context menu, which says "Whats this?" and provide a message box to the user with the appropriate help text. Now what I've done so far is created a contextmenustrip on my forum, and linked all the labels to that single contextmenustrip. I have also added a menu item to that strip called WhatsThisToolStrip MenuItem, but I am at a loss, on where to go next, and find out on what label the contextmenu was activated on?
So for example if a user right clicks the lblStatus label and selects "Whats this?" item a different message box will appear than if the user right clicked the lblSid label.
VB 2010 - Disabling Taskbar, Start Menu And Alt+F4
Oct 3, 2011I'm making a security program that locks the users screen. I have already figured out how to disable task manager but now I need to disable the task bar from showing and the start menu. Also, trying to do an event on alt+F4 doesn't seem to stop the program from exiting. Any other solutions? This program is intended for security reasons and I am not using it for any viruses.

Mar 6, 2012I have a program which runs mainly though a NotifyIcon in the bottum right of my windows screen (XP). Whenever I open the ContextMenuStrip that appears when the icon is right clicked, a box also appears in the task bar. I also have nested menus inside the menu (mouse over one item leads to another menu), and each additional menu also creates a taskbar box upon appearing. So once I am at the third or fourth nested menu, there would be 3 or 4 windows appearing in the taskbar. After the menu disapears, so do the windows in the taskbar.How can I stop the taskbar from displaying boxes to represent these menus? I have done nothing in my code as far as I know to create this type of behavior. I have searched for similar problems but have found nothing similar. There is no "showintaskbar" property for these items as far as I can see, and no other property that I can find which would affect this. I have investigated the owner of the contextmenustrip since I read the owner may effect these type of behaviors, but that doesnt seem to be helpful as there isn't an owner property of the contextmenustrip.

When I set up 2 thread to run I get the following error: Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your Main function has STAThread Attribute marked on it. This exception is only raised if a debugger is attached to the process.From what I have researched, it says to make sure the openfile dialog function should be used with the main thread only. Since I have <STAThread()> added above the main I'm not sure how else to handle this. The main thread needs to be listening for the menu options and if I change it around it runs that option and the other threads hang. [code]

Jul 3, 2010Simply saying I've added an Notify Icon to my project and then added context menu showing up when the left mouse button is pressed. The problem is that with the context menu some blank form is showing in the taskbar. There is no such form within the project.Does anyone know why it may be happening or how to get rid of the effect? I might add that I have other context menu attached for mouse right click button and it works fine, no blank forms and such showing on the taskbar it's just the left mouse button that works that way.Here is the code that I am using to show the menu:(the visible state to false is necessary for the other menus not to pop up with the one i want... unless anyone knows better method)

Cant Get The Save As Menu Option To Work Correctly?
Aug 5, 2010I have written an MDI text editor, its almost complete, but I cant get the save as menu option to work correctly.

So whats happening is that it opens the dialog ok, saves the document to my chosen location correctly, but opens a new document and gives the new document my chosen file name and leaves my saved document with the file name New Document.But when I close all the open screens and then re-open my saved document its all as it should be.

Open the Persons project that you created in the previous lesson. If you did not save it, you will first have to go back to the previous lesson, Adding Methods to a Class, and complete the procedures.
On the File menu, point to Add, and then click New Project.
On the Templates pane in the New Project dialog box, click Windows Forms Application.
In the Name box, type PersonsTest and then click OK.
A new Windows Forms project is added to Solution Explorer, and a new form appears.
In Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Set as StartUp Project. In the Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Add Reference. The Add Reference dialog box appears.

May 1, 2010I did some research and i found that i will need to edit the registry.So if i make a folder called "Get Path" in the ContextMenuHandlers folder.When i click on the file in windows explorer or desktop etc i will have the option called "Get Path".Now for the value key what do i put inside?What i want is when the user right - clicks on the file my program starts up and displays the path of that file on a msgbox or listbox. I was thinking of letting the Windows Installer (.msi) doing this for me.

This draws a small blue line at the bottom of the button to show it is highlighted. Just like the mouseoverbackcolor property on a button except this will draw the line. It works fine until you slide the mouse very fast between the buttons. It is as if the mouseleave event doesnt always fire.

When I switch from full screen without taskbar to minimizable window with taskbar everything is ok. When I try to switch back to full screen the border disappears but the taskbar is still there and the form is not aligned properly.The text at the top is cut off somewhat and there's a small margin at the right edge that shouldn't be there.I put this code in a keydown event for the form.

Create A Small Program That Runs In Taskbar To Monitor Browser Urls For Particular Words.
Dec 5, 2009I need to create a small program that runs in the taskbar to monitor browser urls for particular words.We are using it at work to catch people going to certain banned websites in the work place.Right now it works if i hand code each banned site into the code directly and run with a timer:[code]This works perfectly. Problem now is the Admins want direct access to add/remove different sites to the list.There is no way I am giving them access directly to my code (a bad day comes to mind).So I am attaching a small database with a small table to the server and allowing them to add URLS there. I am stuck in how to use this data though.I have tried pulling up the database column into a listbox but can not configure the code to check each line in listbox to compare to each browser window.
I also tried listed the items in a one column datagrid and try to loop through each row to compare each window.I need each browser window to be compared to a list of items and trigger events if a match is found.If your wondering why I am building this, our IS security people are all or nothing. Either no Net or Full Access.Also our people are a bit to smart to be tracked through history or simple blocking methods.
Cannot Find "build" Option In VB 2010 Menu
May 6, 2010In VB 2008 Express, in the top menu, there is "Build" (Between Project and Debug), but it's not there in VB 2010 Express. I tried to find an option for it in Tools, but I can't find it. I can use the Build menu in VB2008 to build an .exe that shows up in the "Release" folder. What can I do to make an .exe as a release, so that I can implement it? If I was to use the .exe in the "Debug" folder, I can only run it in Debug mode.
In VB2010, I can right-click on the area near the toolbar and choose "build", which makes 2 buttons appear. I can click on the Build" button, but it does not create a new .exe in the "Release". Sorry if the solution is really simple, but I am a newbie, and I've only recently converted to VB 2010 Express. I can't believe how difficult this problem is!

Mar 16, 2010I know how to create shortcuts on desktop and program files but i want to make an option with checkboxes...so that you can select if you want those two shortcuts or if you don't them.I've tried this with checkboxes (in User Interface), i've set checkboxes properties and changed "User's desktop" and "User's Start Menu" conditions (in File System). "CHECKBOXA1" for desktop shortcut, "CHECKBOXA2" for start menu shortcut...but it doesn't work... both icons are visible every time.
