I remember with InterSystems Cache code, you can use indirection to take a string and turn that into real executable code by preceding the string variable with "@". Can this be done in C#.NET or VB.NET code? So I'd like to have a method that would take an arguments array of strings (with one or multiple lines of code), and run that code, assuming it doesn't throw an exception of course. Where am I going with this? I'm trying to write a compiler within .NET code.
SET x="set a=3" XECUTE x ; sets the public variable a to 3
OR SET x="tag1" d @x ; do/call the public subroutine tag1
OR Set Y = "B",@Y = 6 ; sets public variable B = 6
I would like to improve testability of some legacy code. To achieve this, I am introducing interfaces for existing classes (and have existing classes implement those) and factories that create an instance of a test object or an object of the original class, depending on some configuration setting.
I can foresee some internal feedback along the lines of 'but this will affect performance', but I would like to be able to test some code (for a service layer in this case), without having to deploy all underlying layers and setup a database server. Do you have any experience where the indirection introduced did affect performance noticeably? What would be a constructive way to respond to the aforementioned feedback?

View 2 RepliesI have a situation where I am handling both single & double mouse click events on a form. In both cases something has to be loaded, however when a double click occurs, I do not wish to execute the code attached to the single click event.Is there a way to intercept the mouse click's and check if double or single and then execute the right event appropriately?
View 2 RepliesI have a htpc project that I am working on. The main program loads dll plugins which are basically other win forms. On each of these forms, including the main program, I use a picturebox (a double buffered picturebox) for the background image and then draw everything on it by hand. Whenever I load the form from the dll and show it, I get a weird flicker. It looks like it is the previously used double buffer. Is there any way to clear the background double buffer before the flicker? Or am I going in the wrong direction?
Here's a couple of videos of the problem:

Notice the black screen with the white lines on it or the flash of the desktop after I click "Movies." How do I get rid of that?
For greater accuracy I should use a Decimal instead of a Double ( so I've been told ). Why then have Microsoft chosen to use DOUBLE for most of the functions that return a floating point value in the Math Class?

In vb.net, im using objWriter.Write("playerA= "x"")as you can see im using double quotes inside double quotes, how do i skip it so the error doesnt show up?in php you make an "" to skip the string like ("playerA = "x" ")

How can i get the same output as the VB results. And i have tired it ! Type conversions, math functions, everything i can think of to get the same VB6 output !

I've asked this question before, and so have many before me, i have done extensive research on the topic and stil no help. Maybe this is some kind of secret info. shared only amongst top programmers. Bt how do you really, trully double buffer a form, aside from setting "Double Bufferd" to true, which doesn't work in most cases, I want to know how do companies lyk Microsoft and Symantec, prevent flashes on big applications such Word and Norton.
View 4 RepliesIf I try to display a command line argument that has double quotes around, the double quotes are always stripped off. How can I avoid this?
for example, the argument is "c:xx.txt" and this displays c:xx.txt instead Console.WriteLine((My.Application.CommandLineArgs(4)))
I have a CSV file where the values are in double quotes and seperated by a comma. I'm getting incorrect data if I try to seperate the string with my Split function. How do I do it?
Example:[code...]
I've been just making random programs trying to get the hang of the new language this time I was making a leap frog game where it switches back and forth beetween frogs every time a button is pressed. It also checks if the frog can land in the text box above the button pressed, if there is another frog there a message box will pop up saying sorry space is filled other wise the frog should land there.
[code]...
The error message says "Conversion from string "frog1" to type 'Double' is not valid." I understand what a double is but I've tried And If and that causes a bunch of errors.My Question is whats wrong with this cod and how can I make a double if statement???PS I did try to make an array to shorten this but thats in a different fourm will post URL later
need to get a data from xml and I need to display it as double data. I mean as 1,23 or 1,23 like that. I can do that in msgbox But I cannot do that in tetxtbox. I used ouble.parse but didn't work ! The code is below;
Imports System.Xml.Linq
Public Class Form1
Dim EuroC As Double

So I have a class made in c++ and need to convert it into vb.net but I got problem converting a certain part of a function. [Code] What type of variable is "double&", I know a double but what's with the "&"? It isn't " double &dec_deg" so it isn't an address (pointers etc.)? and how would i convert that to vb.net?
View 5 RepliesTo Double Buffer or not to Double Buffer this is the Question!I have a form with Protected Overrides Sub OnPaint that sets forms background to a gradient fill ,on top of that is a transparent richtext box.
Ok. now here`s the problem ,If i enable forms double buffering the transparent Rtb doesn't flicker when forms resized. but the forms drop shadow does flicker! ,its a boarderless form using CS_DROPSHADOW to draw the drop shadow Now if i disable double buffering the forms drop shadow doesn`t flicker but the transparent Rtb does ,any one have a clue how to get both to work in harmony !
I am getting very frustrated with how this was set up. When you are trying to navigate and move things on your form and accidentally double-click, it adds a sub procedure On-Click to the form, then you have to waste time and delete that segment and get back to your workspace.Does anyone know is there an option in the UI options somewhere to change this, so that when you double click it doesn't perform that way? I would like to set it to CTRL-Double click if possible, it would make the program a lot more user friendly for m

View 2 RepliesDim k as nullable(of double)I am INSERTING a rec in database containing K (sometimes it has some value otherwise a null) It works ok.But when i UPDATE a rec and assign a field the value of k and when k is NULL
it gives me an error that you cannot assign a NULL , you should use DBNULL.But i think DBNULL.value can only be assigned to an object not to double.
Yesterday I asked why a adding 10 times 0.10 to a double is not equal to int 1;in VB Why (1 = 1) is False.I got an excellent answer. The overview is because:Floating point types and integer types cannot be compared directly, as their binary representations are different.The result of adding 0.1 ten times as a floating point type may well be a value that is close to 1, but not exactly.I can see the reason why now. However, if I do something like:[code]In this case I really obtain equality between double 1.0 and int 1. I thought then that double were only approximations so I would expect d to be somehow a value close to 1 as in the original first question. Why is not a good idea to compare directly different data types (in this case double - integer) and why I this time I obtain equality ??

So am making a sign in-out program using vb.net and mysql. i was wondering if theres a code i can put in somewhere that will be like if a user opens the application he/she must signin before they can signout and if they open the application and they've already signed in, they cant signin again they must signout before they can sign out again.

This form works in VB .NET
sendMsg = "<CStatus timestamp=""0"" " & _
"type=""login"" " & _
"cid = """ & cID & """ " & _
"key=""" & loginKey & """ />"
But I can't get it work in C#
sendMsg = "<CStatus timestamp="0"
type="login"
cid="" + cID + ""
key="" + loginKey + "" />";
It does not give the same effect. I want this as an output:
<CStatus timestamp="0" type="login" cid="var_cid" key="var_key"/>;
Is there any stringXml command in C# or another way to use double quotes in string?
Solved it with XmlTextWriter
I would like to cast a double to an integer, but rather than keep the numerical value the same I want to keep the bit pattern the same (this is for a compression algorithm), is this already possible in VB.net, or would I need to try and come up with my own method for doing this?
View 3 RepliesIf Double.Parse(list_numbers.Item(i), possibledouble)
list_numbers is a list of strings
list_numbers.Item(i) = "0.000"
possibledouble is a double
debugger returns "input string was not in a correct format"
i thought that the double parse would convert the string into a double format of "0.0" but it gives me an error.
