I am reading data from an API feed and saving the chunks into files. When the files reach 10 MB I start a new file and write to that file. What happens now is that an entry (<entry></entry>) can get cut off at the end of a file and continues into the new file. I try and reconstruct the files by taking the last entry and combining it with the first entry of the next file but this is tedious and was wondering for better suggestion on handling the data transmission and file creation.
The data stream is of variable sizes and where one request can return 60 MB of data the next can be as little as 2MB. I know the data stream will end with a token </feed>but my problem is the cut off data in between. I guess I could just make the max size really large and then hope the data is never more than that but then I have to work with large text files and reading in and parsing would be a problem.

I have an SQL table(for example, it have 1 column "kod" with 3 rows:1,2,3 ). To operate it, I used class LINQ to SQL and I create tmp dataset with one table, with one column "col" with values - 2,3,4. To operate with this tmp table i use IEnumerable(T).I want to find only new values in tmp table and write its in SQL table. To find this values, i want to use LINQ query. Queris to each table are worked well. But query for 2 tables don't work.

I am trying to figure something out. I have an application in which I am adding the ability to consume a feed. I have no problem with the feed itself, but my problem is how can I mark certain items as 'read'? The only thing I can thing of is to read the feed into a database. In this database, I add a column for 'read' which I update when the user has read the article. Then each time I retrieve the feed, I compare the feed to the database and only load new items into the database.

Upon initial retrieval of the records, there is a noticeable pause before displaying the new shipments view, and I have not even implemented the code that counts shipments that are overdue/active yet (which will necessitate a tracking check via web service, and a lot of time).I have built this with the Ocean framework, and all appears to be doing well, except when I first started my foray into multi-threading. I`m trying to write a programme ,in VB2008 Express, to receive Serial Port Ascii data ( from a Multimeter) and display it as Hex Data in a textbox. I can get the Ascii data to show, but just cannot convert it into Hex. Once I can do this I want to write a new front end for the Mulimeter software.

View 3 RepliesI am working on an application with plugins. I have created the plugin host and the plugin, now I need to figure out how to pass data back to the main application from the plugin. IE: I have MainApp that has plugins in a subfolder. It loads the plugins and shows a menu item the launches the plugin. When the plugin launches it opens a windows form inside the plugin. The form does some calculations and then returns data in a string array. How do I pass that string array back to the main application?

View 5 RepliesWhat I am trying to figure out is a simple dice rolling program (I'm assuming it's simple anyway) that lets the user specify how many dice they want to roll and then after they click the roll button it separates the dice by what was rolled so they can see how many 1's was rolled, or how many 2's were rolled, so on and so forth for 6 sided dice.
Say the user wants to roll 6 dice, when the user clicks the roll button the results are 4,3,3,5,1,6. Obviously meaning they rolled two 4's two 3's one 5 and one 6. Now from that result I want to have separate labels that show how many of each number was rolled, so it would look something like this on the form (Except it would be horizontal instead of vertical, but it doesn't work on the forums)
1's: 1
2's: 0
3's: 2
4's: 1
5's: 1
6's: 1
That's just a basic example, of course if the user added more dice there would possibly be up to say 7 4's and 10 5's or whatever. There isn't really a limit to the results you can get.Now I found some code to do let the user specify how many dice to roll and have it roll that amount of dice, but I don't know how to separate the results like I want them above. It works perfectly but how would I go about separating the results like how I was explaining? I'm sorta guessing I would use case statements or something of the sort but I'm not sure how to check the results of dices to be able to separate it.
I have a solution in VS 2010: a WCF Service Library project ("NotifyService") and two Windows Forms projects, one for a server ("NotifyServer")and one for a client ("NotifyClient"). My goal is to have a duplex WCF service that will notify any number of connected clients when the server pushes out a notification. The clients do not need to communicate to the server except to subscribe and unsubscribe from the server's updates. However I seem to be running into problems nailing down the InstanceContext.

Since I'm setting everything up through code, there are no app.config files. The problem I'm having is that my Subscribe method is never called. When debugging, I get an error after stepping through that line (not an exception) that says "Unable to automatically step into the server. The debugger failed to stop in the server process." When I go back to my server form and click the button designed to raise an event on the callback clients, it steps into the NotifyService class but the _callbacks list is empty, meaning the Subscribe method either never ran, or it never ran on that instance.
I have fought with this for almost a week. This is nearly an identical copy, at least on the service-side, to what was described here, and I've compiled that and it works.

Does anyone have a list of OleDBTypes and how they match up with MS Access and SQL Server Data types. I would like this to be able to better write code for my parameter collections. Plus when looking at all the options availible with intellisense when programming in vb2008 v.s. When i run the program everything works fine. I want the textboxes to keep the data in them till the next time i run it. Right now when i shut it down (with data in the textboxes) then start it up i have lost all the data.
