Mar 17, 2011I am reading data from an API feed and saving the chunks into files. When the files reach 10 MB I start a new file and write to that file. What happens now is that an entry (<entry></entry>) can get cut off at the end of a file and continues into the new file. I try and reconstruct the files by taking the last entry and combining it with the first entry of the next file but this is tedious and was wondering for better suggestion on handling the data transmission and file creation.
The data stream is of variable sizes and where one request can return 60 MB of data the next can be as little as 2MB. I know the data stream will end with a token </feed>but my problem is the cut off data in between. I guess I could just make the max size really large and then hope the data is never more than that but then I have to work with large text files and reading in and parsing would be a problem.

Nov 8, 2011I am trying to figure something out. I have an application in which I am adding the ability to consume a feed. I have no problem with the feed itself, but my problem is how can I mark certain items as 'read'? The only thing I can thing of is to read the feed into a database. In this database, I add a column for 'read' which I update when the user has read the article. Then each time I retrieve the feed, I compare the feed to the database and only load new items into the database.

Feb 21, 2012I'm having a problem with my software.
This is are the parts of my system where my problem occurs:
- Search Button
- List Box1
- TotalTextbox
- Button
- SQL Database with a Column named "Amount" and it only contains numbers Datatype is System.String
So, basically a user clicks the Search button and searches for a data in the SQL Database, and the result of the search displays in different Listboxes including the "Amount" Column from the database, which has it's own Listbox named "Listbox1". the Listbox is now filled with numbers.
Goal: The goal is to get the Sum of all the "Numbers" Displayed in the Listbox1, and the Total is then Displayed into a Textbox via using Click event or automatically.
The Code:

TotalTextBox.Text = sum.ToString
And i got this Error: Conversion from type 'DataRowView' to type 'Double' is not valid.
I ended up with this..

sum += Val(ListBox1.Items.Item(x).ToString)
Next
TotalTextBox.Text = sum.ToString
But the values are not adding up, the total is always at 0. i've been searching for hours now from the net to a better way of doing this.
Here's a quick Flow on what im trying to accomplish here. Record from Database -----Displays on---> Listbox1 -----User Clicks--> Button1 ----Displays Total sum on----> Textbox1

I have to enter certain values in a particular column in datagridview and continue with my calculations.At this stage I wan to save my file with the data I have entered so far. Is there a way i can save this data into another file (for example say " SAMPLE"), so that when I open the SAMPLE file from my tool it should display all the values I have saved in the respective controls.

I found out that you can't really move items from databound lists, but you can remove from the datasource instead. This works fine until I want to move the item back - it fills a blank line with seemingly no data.

The code I have only retrieves the first 20 posts rather than all of the 133 posts that I see.
I am linking the problem to cookie settings. I seem to think that the request I am sending is not incorporating the cookie settings that I have on my computer.
You may have to subscribe to a feed to extract more than 20 posts. The standard for RSS feeds (without subscriptions) only allows a user to view 20 posts, HOWEVER, with subscription, the feed's number of posts grows.

Oct 12, 2010I'm semi new to visual basic, and I wanted to know if it is possible to make an RSS feed in visual basic that updates through a homepage that I give a link to and will post the information about the homepage in a text box or in seperate labels and perhaps have them link to the feed it is getting the info from. This I slikely far fetched but if there is any way to bring an RSS feed into the picture for my launcher for world of Warcraft that I am making customly, (Yes I know the regular wow launcher is good but I have a custom one I made with command buttons that lead to forums and homepage and play retail wow along with a private server command button)

May 7, 2012I have an Address Book project with a listbox. The listbox is bound to the database via the little arrow pop-up box in the corner of the listbox. I have the DisplayMember set to FirstName, and obviously only display the First Name of the contact in the ListBox. Is there an easy way to change it so that it displays the First and Last names? I can't change the binding because I need it to get the ID of the record selected.Here's the basis of my code...

I do not want this because I want the listbox to select an item only when the user clicks on it. Otherwise, the iteme should ony be listed. Is there a way to manage this?

But it errors out at this line: 'ds.ReadXml(reader)' with the following error:
A column named 'comments' already belongs to this DataTable.

Jul 20, 2009I need to create a application in vb.net that puts out those cool <<Subscribe to ical>> links, which I can prefill with our events and milestones. While I have figured out I need to use DDay.ical.dll to get the events into a .ics file, I am not clear about how to get these to publish. I was thinking of using an RSS feed, but that defeats the purpose of using icals and would require a RSS to ICal converter,which seems unnecessary.

As how they are displayed from feed to feed changes, I am currently pulling the page as text and searching for text such as "<img src="... and others. Obviously this is not a viable option, how else could I complete this?
