I know you can alias an Imports statement in
Imports xyz = ProjectABC.ClassABC
But if I want to use the Project Properties, Reference tab to select a namespace to allow a project-wide setting, is it possible to alias that namespace?
I have a Web Service Application Project in Visual Studio 2008. This is supposed to be an ASP.Net 2.0 project and at some point this has been rebuilt using 3.5.VS has kindly added in project level imports to System.Linq and System.Xml.Linq, but when I have re-targeted the project at 2.0 these project level imports have remained.Because the Web Service Application Project does not have the detailed window for editing project references I cannot find how to remove these project level imports.There is no .proj file which is where I would assume these were included.I cannot now build the project as it fails, even though I only get warnings (no errors reported) such as this:Namespace or type specified in the project-level Imports 'System.Linq' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases.
View 3 RepliesI've started to use a Vista machine for development. In case it is significant: I'm using MSBee so that I can code in the Visual Studio 2005 IDE while still building against the 1.1 framework.On the Vista machine, when I tried to build a particular vb project, I got this error:
error BC30464: Namespace or type'Compatibility' in the project-level Imports 'Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility' cannot be found.
The same project built fine on my old XP machine. I checked in this folder on my Vista machine:
C:windowsmicrosoft.netFrameworkv1.1.4322
...and sure enough, "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" was missing. So was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.Data.dll". Copying them from my XP machine to my Vista machine allowed me to build the project successfully.I'm just a bit puzzled as to why this happened. Why was "Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.dll" missing? I'm also not very comfortable with my chosen solution - copying the DLL manually. It works, but surely there must be a better way.

I am familiar with c# way of fixing the import via Ctrl-。 but how do you do this for visual basic project?Also does visual basic does not seem to have the [Organize Using] feature for c#.

I need to import java.util.zip for my project to zip and unzip chosen files/folders in vb.net. But when i say imports java.util.zip, i get the error "Namespace cannot be found". I went in the add reference and checked in both .net and COM components bout found nothing for java. What dll would i need to make this work?

In my first application I need to create a multi-level "IF" statement and I am a little lost on how to proceed. The idea is to do figure out an estimate on costs based on the quantity of products being sold. I can do this in Excel, but the VB code escapes me.
So I'll show you in psuedo code what I want to do.
IF comboBoxA = 1 and comboBoxB = 1 then
value X
IF comboBoxA = 2 and comboBoxB = 1 then
value X
If comboBoxA > 3 and comboBoxB > 1 then
(comboxBoxA * costA) + (comboBoxB * costB) = Value X
I have another IF statement that will work off the calculations here. Haven't figured this one out yet, but I haven't gotten there yet in my form.
If Value X > Y Amount then
Offer product Z as a better idea
I have just started to find my way in VB.NET. I'm currently trying to make an add-in for MS FSX SP2/Acceleration. I want to import a "Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect" using the Imports statement. MS VS, however, states that it can not be found. I have found "SimConnect.lib" and "Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll" in the SDK. Which one should I use, and where should I place the file?

View 8 RepliesI have a form with a button that brings up a different form. In some versions of this program (don't ask), the second form is shown non-modally, but in my version it is shown modally. The point of that last statement is that the second form can be either modal or non-modal, so an answer needs to handle either one, but the modal option is more valuable.If form 2 throws an exception that is not handled, the exception is caught somewhere on Form1, though the exact place that it is caught is largely dependent on where the exception was thrown from. The question is this: I need a means to trap all exceptions raised on Form2 or anything called from Form2 such that no exception EVER propagates out of Form2 to be caught in Form1. The reason for this is that Form2 HAS to perform some cleanup for reasons that I have zero control over. That cleanup doesn not absolutely require user input, but it would be good to have some.Is there any event that is fired if a form is exited due to a call stack unwinding as an unhandled exception propagates up the stack?

View 6 RepliesI am trying to figure out a way to implement password protection on documents that a program I am working on creates. They should remain with the document regardless of where it is copied to or sent.Here is a rough sequence of events:
1. Application Opens (no document loaded).
2. User opens document with extension registered to application.(could also be # 1 if they clicked on the document directly)
3. Application Security checks document for security and prompts if necessary.
4. If prompted, user enters password.
5. Application checks password.
6. If passed, document opens, otherwise user is notified of failure.
Currently, I've encountered a problem where I do not how I can store the variable of my battery level in a text file. I tried .xml and .txt file and it returns me text which can't be read.The code related:

What I'm attempting to do is have the user input a variable such as 1-4 and have it produce a price and the user inputs a variable such as 5- ∞), have it produce a different price. I'm getting confused as to how I'm supposed to incorporate an If-Then statement with this. Basically what this assignment is is a number of units (1-4) or (5-∞) and then charging $10 or $9 respectively.

View 6 RepliesI have created a simple program which uses a two tier structure of SQL Tables.At the top level, one record holds the date of the activities and linked to it using its primary key as a foreign key, three subordinate tables hold time stamped records.The issue I have been unable to solve is that before adding any of the lower level records for a given date, a newly added top level record must be saved to the database.Doing this manually is simple - but can I rely on my users to remember to do this before they start plugging in the lower level data?I thought not, so I am looking to save the top level automatically.I've failed miserably but I refuse to believe that it's not possible.
