In the dgv_CellEndEdit event I know I can find which cell I'm in by the "CurrentCell.ColumnIndex" property. I'd like to be able to check the current column name. If I use "columnIndex" and a column is added or deleted this could cause errors.

View 2 RepliesI've got this working but there's something I don't understand about it. I have a DataGridView and a listbox. I want to position the listbox to be the same location as the topmost visible cell in the column the mouse is in. The end result will be that a context menu will be provided to show the user the distinct values in that column which is why I want the listbox to show over the column that it's displaying data for, just below the header cell. I'm testing right now using the CellMouseEnter event and the following code is working:

I have an unbound datagridview that has 2 columns. Both columns contain numeric data only and will only go to 55 in count. How do you sort a Datagridview Column in collating sequence? I basically want to sort from 55 down to 1 and 1 to 55 in their respective numerical order.

1. How to have a checkbox on this Column header, which on checking must check all the rows in the DGV and vice versa?
2. How do i get the Boolean value of the checked rows in DGV on event handling? In other words, how do i know what rows are selected?
The problem at hand is to search an Access database for "duplicate" street addresses, given user input of street address, city, state, and zip code.Given the zip code, city and state do not need to be looked at.
My thought was to select off records in the database with the zip code that matches the input, then loop through those records, performing a "similarity" test on the street address field as compared to the input street address. Obviously we cannot test for exact matches (i.e. "SW" vs. "South West", etc.). This problem has obviously been solved before with post office software, algorithms used by mapping applications, etc.
But do you have any thoughts on what algorithm I might implement in a VB 2005 app?

Should I use "CheckBox type 1" or "type 2"?Also,When I make 1 of my columns a "checkBox", and then try to use it, the checkBox seems keep turning itself back ON.I turn it ON, and then click on a different column or row, and the checkbox stays ON, like it should.But if I turn the checkBox OFF, and then click on a different column or row, the checkbox magically turns itself back ON. I can't find anything in my code that says "turn it back on". And I've never connected it directly to any data source.

I want the user to be able to make a selection from the combo box, and when the row is finished and the "new row" moves down one, I want the column to become a textbox containing the what the user selected. View 1 RepliesIt seems that on clicking datagridview column header, the column will be automatically sorted based on the column type. I have a column showing some numbers. If column type is string, it sorts "1","20","3" into "1","20","3". If column type is double, it sorts into "1","3","20" which is the result that I want. However, there might be some erros in the numbers and error messages(text) will show in the cell instead of numbers. So I cannot set the column type as double. I want to ignore these error messages and sort all the numbers. How can I do this?
Also, I need to add some background colors to different rows in datagridview. So in the column header click event, I call the bkgColor Sub to achieve this. My question is that how can I override the sorting method in this event?

Am using the Entity Framework and Columns Completed and Taken are of bit Datatype. When the query results are displayed in the datagridview, these bit columns are returned as of ColumnType Textbox - so i get a Datagridview textbox column with true or false string values.
I want to display Completed and Taken as Checkbox columns (either ticked for True or un-ticked for false) but ofcourse i can't do this in EditColumn dialogue because the Datagridview is unbound.
