Aug 6, 2010I have a Generic.List(Of ImportedVehicle) - ImportedVehicle being a simple class as below.There is an enum property which is marked as public.When I serialize to XML using an XMLSerializer, the enum's value is just set to it's default value (which is NotAllocated) and doesn't actually represent the value that is set in code.[code]

VS 2005 XML - Node Added By Ref To A Generic List
Nov 29, 2010I have an XML node which I am adding to a generic list of xml nodes:
ListXml.Add(myXmlNode)
Now whenever I change the node afterwards, all members of the list turn into copies of the node. Why would the list keep track of this and more importantly how am I supposed to 'detach' my work node from that list?
Binding A List (Of T) To A DataGridView?
Nov 30, 2011I have a grid populated from a list. Now there are particular properties in this list that I don't want displayed on the grid. It displays all of the columns perfectly, then adds 2 others I didn't originally have on the grid when I constructed it in designer mode. I have removed them after the binding with DataGridView.Columns.Remove("ColumName"). However, is there a way to prevent it from adding these beforehand, or is this the only way?

Binding Datarow To Textbox.?
Dec 16, 2010I have the following code where I'm trying to bind a datarow to a textbox.
Me.TierNameText.DataBindings.Add("Text", Me.m_TierRecord, "tier_name") Problem is, when the form is displayed no text is shown in the textbox.
This code runs before I call the form's ShowDialog method. I stepped through the code to make sure the datarow has data, and indeed it does.
I rarely use databinding but thought I'd try it this time.

The above code assumes that you have a Form named Form5 with a DataGridView called DataGridView1. If you run the form and change a value in the new column then try to exit that column, you get an exception. Ultimately I was wanting to bind from a datatable from an SQL 2000 Server which is why I used an Integer column type for the datarow. It would seem that the Enum would evaluate to an integer. If you show the valuetype in the validated event which will fire if you remove the
col.DataPropertyName = "Status"
line, It return a numeric value.

The compiler does not allow a "T" in the method's parameter because it's not defined, but I'm not sure how or where to define it. I thought it was okay to have a generic method definition.
Cast/convert From List(Of DataRow) To List(Of String)?
May 22, 2012I'm trying to solve a problem regarding types of list. First of all I have a stored procedure in my DB which does a select of a single column and I try to proceed it in my app in VB. By making a method function I declared a DataTable that loads through the SqlCommand(with the CloseConnection behavior). After that I publicly declared a List(Of String) which needs to be populated with the rows/items from the stored procedure that is on the way. Below is my snippet of the code:

It's LPrefix = collection.Cast(Of String)() where I get an exception error telling me that I can't really convert it. The old fashion way is to iterate with for/for each loop but that's not what I want for best use of performance especially if the list will have thousands of rows from a single column. So basically, I want to insert those items from that DataTable to the List(Of String) without For/For Each loop.
Running on VisualStudio2010 Ultimate, .NET FrameWork 4.0.
DatePicker Doesn't Display Binding Data Correctly?
Nov 23, 2009I have a VB 2008 application with multiple DataPicker fields. The data is binded to SQL database. On the form load I set the checkBox for each date to false if there is no date in the field. Noticed that if I make changes to some dates for record 1 in the table, save it and scroll to the next record - I see the date that I just changed for record 1 - also on records 2 and 3. Why is it happening? I don't have that problem if I use text fields to display the dates. I had encountered the same problem with different project and just switched to text boxes. With this new project?

how to determine whether the property in question is a generic List(Of T)? If it is I need to loop the list itself.
I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?

Each individual list has a common property value, say "Department". So I have a list of employees, in one list they all have the department string value of "Sales". In another list all the objects have a department value of "Finance". These lists of employees are then contained in a list which holds them all.
