VS 2005 "If" "Else" Statement - IF Filetype Does Not Return A Value When Write It To File
Aug 26, 2010
[Code]....
Apparently, filetype refers to the extension of the program. But I do not want it to read .exe and .lnk programs. So how can I include this "If Else" statement into the one stated above?
Dim SQLData As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("FixedLineProvisioningConnectionString").ToString()) Dim cmdSelect As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("INSERT INTO tblTotalComms_custinfo SET nt_username=@nt_username; SELECT @ID=SCOPE_IDENTITY()", SQLData) [Code] ..... I want to return the value @ID from the insert statement.
and I want to edit the value 4375 in line 02 (pos. 4-7) to be 4376.I know I can read it with a streamreader, and write to the end or entire file with streamwriter, but how can i read and write at the same time?
Downloading the entire file to a string and then recreating is NOT an option.
I am suddenly getting an into statement error and can not seem to figure out why When I try to update a .csv file I get: syntax erroe in INSERT INTO statement When I try an update a textfile I get: The INSERT INTO statement contains the following unknown field name: 'SellingPrice'. Make sure you have typed the name correctly, and try the operation again.
I want to write a line into a text/.cfg file. The line is = name "ishtiak". I need a sapce between name & "ishtiak". The text "ishtiak" is loading from a textbox called textbox1. I dont want in the text box my name like this "ishtiak" it will be without "" like this ishtiak but in the text file it will add "" before & after my name.
So the question is 1. How to add space between name & "ishtiak"? like this = name "ishtiak" 2. My textbox text will be ishtiak, but it will be written like this "ishtiak"
Here is My Project Screen & Project Code Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click Dim thefile As String = "C:append.cfg" Dim lines() As String = System.IO.File.ReadAllLines("C:append.cfg") lines(4) = "name" & TextBox1.Text System.IO.File.WriteAllLines("C:append.cfg", lines) End Sub
I have an application that currently stores PDF files (and others) inside the database as BLOBs. The trouble with this method is that I've now got SQL Server databases in excess of 200 GB! I've finally figured out a way to still enable full-text search without needing to store the PDF files as BLOBs (yay! Adobe's iFilter isn't great.), but I'm having trouble designing the method for a client to get access to the files stored on the server's file system.
I want to place the files in a restricted directory on the server, so I can't simply pass a UNC path to the client and let them open the file from there either in a browser or using Process.Start(filename). I understand how that would work, but if that directory has user access granted, all sorts of security holes open up, right? So, what I'm thinking about is a way to have a SQL Server account that has read/write access to/from the protected file system directory. That way (in my mind), the SQL Server can take a file as it's loaded in through the import client (as a series of byte chunks) and write the file to that area of the filesystem. Then, when a file is requested, the SQL Server can bulk load the file into a varbinary(max) field and do whatever I want with it.
1. How can SQL Server take a stream of bytes and write them to a specified location on its local file system? (This is assuming that I want the import utility to be able to be run on a client machine and not require it to be run on the server itself.)
2. Is there any way to stream a varbinary(max) file to a web page out of SQL? I'm using a lot of PDF files that will have Fast Web View enabled, so if I can stream the bytes to a web page, the user will be able to see the first few pages of the document while the rest is loading. I thought about having the SQL Server read (bulk load) the file from the protected area and write it to an unprotected area just long enough to point a web browser to that location, then wiping the file, but that brings me back to #1 above and would THEN require me to be able to issue a delete command from SQL.
I am writing a schema.ini file to be created onthe fly and want to make file name a variable but cant seem to get the brackets as required by schema.ini file
Dim fn As String = Me.OpenFileDialog1.SafeFileName writer.WriteLine([fn])
I want to write the data to a file which in an format that is only understandable by my program, and if any one opens it in notepad must not be able to read(understand) it.
I've searched everywhere to find out why the heck my program is doing this, but couldn't find anything like it...? I'm making a flash card program. Part of my program takes images corresponding to other data from a certain area, chosen by the user, and moves them to another folder, for later use. I want to store the path for the image next to the other data, storing the path as a string. When no image is chosen, the variable for the path is simply "no image".
I'm trying to write a program that will open a solidworks file in EDrawings and print it and so far the only way I can find to do that with an edrawings ActiveX Control displayed on my form.Does anyone know if it's possible to print drawings via EDrawings 2009 without the ActiveX Control having to be displayed on the form as that is drastically slowing down my program?
Am I just being blind or does this If statement genuinely not do what it's meant to.[code]This displays the message box even though textSample is one of the letters. In my eyes that If statement should see that textSample is one of those letters and skip it, whereas if it was Z it would "Not" be equal to any of those and would therefore show the message box.
I have the following piece of code that I am using to try and rip a csv file and turn it into a datatable. My problem is that the debugger never makes it to the return statement. Everything is appending to the datatable correctly, so I know that part works. Any idea's on what I can do to trouble shoot this further. Also, if you know of a simpler way to turn a import a csv file to a datatable I'd be very interested in learning about it.[code]..
It say that the Object reference is not set to an instance of an object. What's weird though is that it works through the whole data table fine. Could it be that the while loop is not terminating at the end of the file?
I know normaly you have to use Return before "End Function", but now the Return is in the Try and Do statement and I can't find a way to variable the Return.[code]...
I am a little confused about the use of a return statement in a function. If I understand correctly the return statement returns a value but where? Where is the value being returned to?
I have 2 functions that need to work together.1 function is to generate a chart number. The other function is to search via SQL to see if the chart number exists. if the chart number doesn't exist then i need function 2 to return a boolean value so function one can generate a new chart number example code: [code] Now i know that i am probably using the incorrect sql statement, my main issue is that i dont know how return available back to the function.
I am developing a code to open up a .dbf file and append data to a access database. Here is my code for opening the .dbf file.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim constr As String = "Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Data Source=F:JUNO4.dbf;Persist Security Info=False;" Dim con = New OleDbConnection(constr) Dim da = New OleDbDataAdapter("Select UNIQUE_ID FROM JUNO4", con)
1. I would like to know why a Return statement is needed in the function in the first set of code, but not in the second(even though it still works with the Return statement). The functions are called the same way, so what is the difference?2. Why in the second code, the variable FutureValue is allowed to have the same name as the function? But when, in the first set of code, I try to rename the variable "discountPercent1"(in the function) to the function name "SetDiscountPercent", VB 2008 Epress gives the error message "The name conflicts with an existing symbol with the same name"?
Public Class frmInvoiceTotal Private Sub btnCalculate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _ ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalculate.Click
Here's a simple code snippet of a larger function as an example.
Using conn as New SqlConnection("conn string") Using find as new SqlCommand("ExampleProc",conn) Dim rParam as new SqlParameter("@RESULT",SqlDbType.Int)
[code]....
I know the Output parameter is returned after the SqlDataReader is closed. From what I think I know, the Using statement will call .Dispose on the SqlDataReader, so will that basically wipe out the Output parameter? If so, what is the best method to call a SqlDataReader that also contains Output parameters that closes and disposes everything correctly? Let me add that based on what I've read you only have access to the Output parameter using a SqlDataReader after you call .Close on the SqlDataReader.
I was rooting around in one of our company apps which is done in VB.net. I'm not familiar with VB.net (I do stuff in C#) so I'm asking this question: Does the code after the clean up comment execute? [code]It is my understanding once you say return, you give the calling function control again.
[code] BUT, in code, watching the locals window for rec.EOF and rec.BOF both return true and therefore no results. Why does this work in VB Query Designer but not in code? If I remove the WHERE statement than the results return fine as expected. But its returning ALL of the results which is no good.
How can i return null values in if statement above. This statement is not working if condtion is false its retruning me 0 value even if condition is false
dim d as nullable(0f Decimal) d=(if(_dr("value") isnot dbnull.value,Convert.toDecimal((_dr("value")),Nothing)
I've just been burned again by the fact that there is no compiler warning when you fail to return a result in a Function that returns a Value type. I wrote the function:
Public Function CompareTo(ByVal other As MessageIndex) As Integer Implements System.IComparable(Of MessageIndex).CompareTo Me._messageIndex.CompareTo(other._messageIndex) End Function
which performs the CompareTo Function for two integers, then throws the result away and returns 0, because I forgot to either assign a value to CompareTo, or use Return, and that isn't flagged by the compiler because it's valid VB for a Value type.
I happen never to use "FunctionName = ReturnValue" because it hides information from maintenance programmers and also because I think it's insane .
Is there any way I can get the compiler to issue a warning whenever my Functions are missing a Return, whether it's a Value type or not?
i have a question about how to write an if else statement. I was experimenting with vb 2008 and wrote a program that adds few numbers together and displays the result in textboxes. for example i input the following 4 number in 4 different textboxes
14 3 1 5
and the result i get is 15 8. I was trying to simulate adding times together(eg 14:03 + 1:05 = 15:05). Everything seems to be working fine but how can i place "0" if the output for the minutes is less that 10? eg instead of having 8 in the textbox i would like to have 08.
