VS 2005 Right Docked Control Flickers While Resizing?
Nov 3, 2009
I have two controls (for example the dockable toolbars) on my main form. Now one to the Left L1, and other to the right R1 now when I resize these controls during run time, slowly by a timer , L1 goes pleasantly.(Because size reduction happens from right to left on a control).
On R1, the problem is different, since it is docked right, every time it is resized, it starts flickering...

I have a borderless form that I'm "docking" onto the top edge of my screen. Inside of the form, I'm placing a single toolstrip control, which docks across the entire form -> (picture the taskbar to get an idea of what I'm talking about).Because the borderless form has no edge to it, I wanted to draw a black line along the bottom edg` of the form to differentiate the form from the windows or desktop behind it.
The problem that I'm facing is that`the toolstrip will not move "behind" the line when it's docked, no matter how I order the control layers.
I've tried programatically sending the control to back to no avail either.
Any ideas on how to get the line to show above the docked toolstrip?

I have a form that has a toolbar and a status bar on it. After the form's InitializeComponent method is ran, I add a listview control to it and set the listview's dock property to fill. The listview is actually an overridden listview with an overridded constructor - that's why I don't just add the listview using the designer.
But the listview tucks itself up under the toolbar. It looks like the bottom of the listview respects the presence of the status bar. It's just the top of the listview that is giving me problems. So, any guesses as to what I may be doing wrong - why the listview tries to fill dock underneath the toolbar?

I have a SplitContainer on a form that has 2 panels. The top panel has a FlowPanelLayout control docked in it and the bottom panel has a DataGridView docked in it. I want the top panel to be collapsed when the form is first shown. As the user adds controls to the FlowPanel I want to grow the top panel just enough to see the controls and visa versa. When the user removes controls from the FlowPanel I want to shrink the top panel. If no controls exist I want the top panel to collapse again.
Can I do this by changing properties of all the controls at design time, because I can't figure out the right combination to make it work? Or do I have to do this programmatically?

I use panel.controls.add to add controls to the panel. But... they insert at the very top of it.
I tried the BringToFront and SendToBack methods, but does'nt seem to be working.
what i want, is that they dock at the top of the container, but if there is another docked control there, the new one is displayed below that one...

We have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?

I have a maximized form that has controls at the top of it and a large DataGridView that is docked below all the controls. Its kind of like the Ribbon in MS Office. The controls cover about 1/4 of the screen at the top. I would like a way for the user to click a button to hide all the controls then automatically expand into the place the controls were so the user can view more data in the DataGridView and visa versa. For example, in MS Office Excel you can hide the ribbon by clicking a tiny button that has "^" on it.
I'm not very familiar with all the controls in Visual Studio so I would like to hear some recommendations. Is this situation ideal for a SplitContainer or ToolStripContainer or am I way off base here?

My full screen sized Form is locked in size when I reduce it in size by clicking on the "restore down" [ie] not to the minimized size. I mean "locked in size" by I cannot for instance "grab" it on a corner and to increase or decrease its size. I suspect the control is in the properties window but I cannot find it.

I have drawn out a datagridview onto my form at a certain size.But, say I have 3 rows of data and they dont fill the grid to its bottom. So I'm left with a bunch of empty grey color stuff in the rest of the control below.Is there any simple property/method that will fit the control size to just the rows loaded, or am I being too picky?

[code]i want to extend the window width everytime i expand the expander control to the right.when i run the above quoted xaml and expand the expander control after the build, everything works like expected, but as soon as i manually resize the window, the content of the expander control will expand into the existing area to the left. how can i change this behaviour, so that the window will extend its width to the right side and the content will end up in that new area?

If btnExpand.Checked = True Then
Do While Me.Width < 860
Me.Width = Me.Width + 10
[Code]....
the code does what it's supposed to do and the end result is as expected. However.. when I use this code.. my form starts to flicker during the expanding process. I have a custom background set. And you can really see it stretching out as it's supposed to, but the entire form flashes white , black , white , black and I can see horizontal lines between the form aswell. perhaps a command like, System.Screenupdating = false ?

First off I'm using the Extended Webbrowser control from: [URL]
I use the Webbrowser control to access an ESRI web based mapping solution. When the ESRI map is loaded into an IE browser and the browser is resized then the map control resizing accordingly. When my Webbrowser control is resized the map webpage is not resizing properly.
I don't even know where to start with this problem. Is there some event that's not firing in the website? I can't simply refresh the whole website because the user may have panned and zoomed around. I want to just tell the website that the container control (Webbrowser control) is resizing now.

I have a panel with the BackgroundImage set that I'm using as a button. The panel also contains a PictureBox with a png image loaded so that parts of the image are transparent and the panel image shows through. On MouseDown I change the panels BackgroundImage, then on MouseUp I change it back again. The problem is that when the panel image changes, the PictureBox flickers badly when redrawing its transparent areas. I've tried using the DoubleBuffered property of the form its on; no luck there. I've also tried SuspendLayout just before changing the image, refreshing the PictureBox, then ResumeLayout. Still no luck.

I've got a set of controls in a line inside"FollowTableLayoutPanel1", contained within "TableLayoutPanel2".I have them resizing according to the position of the mouse cursor; the closer the mouse cursor is to the vertical centre of the control, the larger the control is. Because FollowTableLayoutPanel1 has its anchor property set to "Top", it recentres itself in TableLayoutPanel2.It is possible for the recentring of FollowTableLayoutPanel1 to move a control one pixel further away from the mouse pointer, which causes the control to shrink, which causes FollowTableLayoutPanel1 to recentre, placing the control closer to the mouse pointer, which causes the control to grow,which causes FollowTableLayoutPanel1 to recentre, which moves the control further away from the mouse cursor, etc., etc., etc.The end result is that the whole setup judders and wobbles, constantly resizing.Full example code is provided below,and can be pasted directly into Form1 of a new project. Positioning the mouse cursor to correctly show the problem is left as an exercise for the reader :
Public Class Form1
Private Sub myInitializeComponent()
Me.components = New System.ComponentModel.Container
Me.TableLayoutPanel2 = New System.Windows.Forms.TableLayoutPanel[code].....

I'm having a few problems with the layout of my new browser. I have a WebBrowser control which is docked 'Fill', and a MenuBar at the top docked 'Top'. When I run the program and go to Google (which has a dark bar at the top), a white gap becomes visible. I think that this is because the MenuBar's RenderMode is set to 'System'. When I click on it in the editor the bottom of the background is a few pixels away from the MenuBar's bounding square.Also, the MenuBar's RenderMode has to be set to System other wise the control is drawn as a rounded-rectangle and there are gaps in the background image in the corners. That said, I could change it, if someone could provide a solution to showing the background image in another control and set the MenuBar's background to transparent.

I am in the process of switching from Visual Studio 2003 to 2005. I have been unable to figure out if there is a way to replicate the "docked" Find search box like in Visual Studio 2003 which I have uploaded as an attachment or you can view it at the following link: url...It looks like in VS 2005 you always need to launch the Find dialog: url...I don't really like having to launch the Find dialog whenever I want to search for some text. Does anyone know if there is a way to mimic the docked search box?

When it fills it covers up the form and the gradient on the form. Is it possible to make the TableLayout Panel and its controls colour clear or can you pass the same gradient color from the form to all the controls in the TableLAyout Panel (including the TableLAyoutPanel).

Is there a way to detect when a laptop is docked or undocked? I know how to get the "dock" status of a laptop using GetCurrentHwProfile.
