Automatically Grow SplitContainer Panel As Docked FlowPanelLayout Control Grows
Feb 1, 2012
I have a SplitContainer on a form that has 2 panels. The top panel has a FlowPanelLayout control docked in it and the bottom panel has a DataGridView docked in it. I want the top panel to be collapsed when the form is first shown. As the user adds controls to the FlowPanel I want to grow the top panel just enough to see the controls and visa versa. When the user removes controls from the FlowPanel I want to shrink the top panel. If no controls exist I want the top panel to collapse again.
Can I do this by changing properties of all the controls at design time, because I can't figure out the right combination to make it work? Or do I have to do this programmatically?

I am having a problem figuring out one thing with my program. It's about SplitContainer. To elaborate, I put a SplitContainer on a form. It divided my form into two parts, which I wanted. On the left side panel there are buttons, and when I click on a button I would want to display another form inside the other part of the SplitContainer which is Panel2.

I have a TopBar, A LeftBar, A VScrollBar, A HScrollBar and a Panel inside a SplitContainer Panel. The issue I'm having is that when my SplitContainer Panel is small enough to enable one of the ScrollBars, I will slide the ScrollBar and then when I resize the Split Panel, my Panel1 is staying where I scrolled it too.I'm having troubles thinking of the correct code to fix this.

I use panel.controls.add to add controls to the panel. But... they insert at the very top of it.
I tried the BringToFront and SendToBack methods, but does'nt seem to be working.
what i want, is that they dock at the top of the container, but if there is another docked control there, the new one is displayed below that one...

Im having a problem with a datagridview which is saved on a UserControl which is then loaded into a SplitContainer. The problem is that the forms load fine but the datagridview doesn't populate on load. It will populate however when I search for results using the toolstrip.

I have a splitcontainer with horizontal orientation. I want a fixed height for panel2 only during form resize, and let splitter resize panel2. Now I'm doing it this way, but I'm not satisfy because user notice that the panel resize
Private Sub Form1_ResizeBegin(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _
Handles Me.ResizeBegin
spil = SplitContainer1.Height - SplitContainer1.SplitterDistance
End Sub
Private Sub Form1_ResizeEnd(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _
Handles Me.ResizeEnd
SplitContainer1.SplitterDistance = SplitContainer1.Height - spil
End Sub

I have a borderless form that I'm "docking" onto the top edge of my screen. Inside of the form, I'm placing a single toolstrip control, which docks across the entire form -> (picture the taskbar to get an idea of what I'm talking about).Because the borderless form has no edge to it, I wanted to draw a black line along the bottom edg` of the form to differentiate the form from the windows or desktop behind it.
The problem that I'm facing is that`the toolstrip will not move "behind" the line when it's docked, no matter how I order the control layers.
I've tried programatically sending the control to back to no avail either.
Any ideas on how to get the line to show above the docked toolstrip?

I have two controls (for example the dockable toolbars) on my main form. Now one to the Left L1, and other to the right R1 now when I resize these controls during run time, slowly by a timer , L1 goes pleasantly.(Because size reduction happens from right to left on a control).
On R1, the problem is different, since it is docked right, every time it is resized, it starts flickering...

I have a FlowPanelLayout that can contain several UserControls called DataGridViewFilterSortElement. These controls look kind of like buttons, but different. I want the user to be able to click one of the DataGridViewFilterSortElement controls and drag it to another position (index) in the FlowLayoutPanel. Is there a way to see the control physically moving as the user drags it to another position? In other words, is there a way to take a "snap shot" of the control that is being dragged (instead of a shadowed box) which would show the actual control moving as the cursor moves?
Also, as the control is being dragged I'd like to have the other controls position to shift automatically instead of waiting for the user to drop the drag to see the shifts. For example, let's say the FlowPanelLayout contains 3 controls and the user wants to drag the first control to the third controls position. So the user clicks and holds the first DataGridViewFilterSortElement, then drags over the second control, which causes the second control to shift to position 1 of 3, then the user drags over the third control, which causes the third control to shift to position 2 of 3, then the user drops the control in position 3.
Here is a short little video that shows what I want to do: Video Example
Private Sub lblDescription_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles Me.MouseDown, lblDescription.MouseDown
' if the user left clicks and holds the element begin a DragDrop action
If e.Button = Windows.Forms.MouseButtons.Left Then
Me.DoDragDrop(Me, DragDropEffects.Move)
End If
End Sub
[Code] .....

I have a maximized form that has controls at the top of it and a large DataGridView that is docked below all the controls. Its kind of like the Ribbon in MS Office. The controls cover about 1/4 of the screen at the top. I would like a way for the user to click a button to hide all the controls then automatically expand into the place the controls were so the user can view more data in the DataGridView and visa versa. For example, in MS Office Excel you can hide the ribbon by clicking a tiny button that has "^" on it.
I'm not very familiar with all the controls in Visual Studio so I would like to hear some recommendations. Is this situation ideal for a SplitContainer or ToolStripContainer or am I way off base here?

Well this is a re-post now as nobody replied in the gaming section, and i believe this question could go as a normal VB question, therefore I'm asking in this category instead.I have decided to pick up on programming and want to make a text based RPG Game i will "upgrade" as my programming knowledge grows.I got some ideas that i think i should use, but i want you guys' opinions on it.I assume I'll use different classes for each monster, which will have properties.Should those monsters then be inside a list of all possible monsters, or would i have a monster class which i would use and generate the enemies when needed? And would i use the same approach on items and character stats?

I'm trying to make a label control transparent over a Panel control. However by setting the background colour of the label to Transparent, it actually sees right through to the form itself, not the panel as intended.
As an example we use a panel with a background as white, we make the label transparent, however it gets the forms colour as blue. However, we are using a custom panel control and need the label to be transparent over the panel and not see the forms background.

I've got a Panel on a main Form containing a PictureBox control on Top of a TableLayout control. Both the child controls have their docking properties set to Top. The Picture control has sizemode set to Zoom.
What I'm finding is that the picture doesn't size properly when I start the app. There is a border at the top and bottom in the PictureBox control. It's only when I resize the overall form that it's correct.
So at the moment I've got this ugly bit of startup code, just to fix the problem Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized
What am I missing?

I currently have 5 buttons at the top of my program's main form. They are all size 132x31 and fit perfectly in the window. However, when the window resizes I want them to grow and shrink proportionally to fit the new window size. I've played around with the anchor settings but nothing seems to be of help.

How do i create a byte array that grows?
Say I create a loop in a new thread and in that loop I using a blocking method to read data from a socket . I receive 255 bytes at a time, until all data has arrived. I want to pop this into one larger byte array after I have received it and whisk it off to somewhere else to do nasty things to it.

is it add control to a form and add control to a usercontrol is using same method like me.controls.add(newpanel)?im a little bit confuse here because that way is not working. im trying to add a panel, to a usercontrol at runtime. the usercontrol is also added at runtime. for e.g. i have click add bar menu, than a usercontrol appear. then, when the usercontrol is selected and i click on add note menu, it will add a panel that contain labels to the usercontrol. this is what i have done. the 'me' is the usercontrol and i put this code under that usercontrol load event.
