Automatically Grow SplitContainer Panel As Docked FlowPanelLayout Control Grows

Feb 1, 2012

I have a SplitContainer on a form that has 2 panels. The top panel has a FlowPanelLayout control docked in it and the bottom panel has a DataGridView docked in it. I want the top panel to be collapsed when the form is first shown. As the user adds controls to the FlowPanel I want to grow the top panel just enough to see the controls and visa versa. When the user removes controls from the FlowPanel I want to shrink the top panel. If no controls exist I want the top panel to collapse again.

Can I do this by changing properties of all the controls at design time, because I can't figure out the right combination to make it work? Or do I have to do this programmatically?

Close Opened Form In SplitContainer Panel2

Jun 4, 2012

I have a master form which uses the SplitContainer control. The PANEL1 of the split carries the MenuStrip and Panel2 is used to call related external forms

Code (refer below): Function ResetSplitContainerPanel2 clears the Panel2 and loads the new form using the SetFormAttributesToLoadInPanel2

Issue: Although SettingSplitContainer.Panel2.Controls.Clear() clears the Panel2 but the form still maintains the form in the editable mode. If I call the same form again, I can see the values which I typed earlier

Output Expected: On Load of new form, the previous loaded form in PANEL2 should be disposed completely

Private Sub ResetSplitContainerPanel2()
SettingSplitContainer.Panel2.Controls.Clear()
End Sub
Private Function SetFormAttributesToLoadInPanel2(ByVal formNameToChange As Form) As Boolean
On Error GoTo errHandler
[Code] .....

ErrHandler:
MsgBox("Error Description: " & Err.Description, vbOKOnly, "Error")
SetFormAttributesToLoadInPanel2 = True
Exit Function
End Function

Skin My Form - Shadow Edges Are Choppy

Nov 23, 2009

I tried to skin my application and failed. I can get it to work if I dont have semi transparent pixels on the outside of my form. But I want to use a skin I found on Deviant art that was made for Miranda. It is really nice but and it has a shadow around it. To get it to work in vb.net (Im using 2005 btw) I have to fill around the main picture and take out the initializing (I think that is what it is called). But then the forms edges are choppy. How does Miranda allow the shadows but I cant in vb.net?

I first tried to do it the easy way. I set up some transparent panels with transparent pictureboxes in them and put my corners and middle fills as the backgrounds. I made the form with no border and set the transparent key to transparent. That didnt work, so I made the form magenta and the transparent key magenta. The outside of the for where the shadow is was drawn on the magenta and the magenta bled through. So I edited the pngs to be magenta all around the form (eliminating the shadows) and it worked, but the corners were choppy.

Then tried some code I found on the net that tried to make a new control as a transparent panel. It was overriding the paint events and drawing to an off screen bitmap. I really didn't understand it and it just showed up as a blank screen. There has to be a way to do this.

VS 2005 : Getting Control Inside Of A Panel To Appear?

Apr 25, 2009

I have a question about getting control inside of a panel to appear Here's what I am trying to do:I have 2 database maintenance screens done with both details and grid.

Customer
Inventory

I have all the Customer table data on 1 panel control (pnlCustomer) that has textbox and datagridview controls. The visible property is set to True because this is the first UI that I want to appear when the form loads Next I created another panel for the Inventory data (pnlInventory) and I added contols to that in detail and datagrid views. I placed the Inventory panel directly on top of the Customer panel. The visible properly is set to False My intentions are that when the employee selects the Inventory button that the Customer panel will hide() and the Inventory panel will show().

I have tried a number of things but they do not work. What happens is that when the Inventory button is selected the Customer panel and all it's controls will actually hide but the Inventory panel will not appear. If it is opening, then there are no controls visible...and I checked to make sure that the property of all controls in the Inventory panel are set to Visible = true

Here is what I have tried:

' on form load
pnlCustomer.Visible = True ... also tried .show()
pnlInventory.Visible - False ... also tried .hide()

[code]....
