FileMovement Lock On Destination Folder?

Jun 25, 2012

Source code: vb.net

We are using File.Move() method to move the file from source to destination locaion. But the destination location is being monitored by one tool, whenever we are moving files to the destination location, it will pick up the file and process it. The issue here when we try to move huge volume file like around 5GB file, the tool is immediately picking up the file and try to process it before the move operation is complete and send failure notice to all the users.. After again successfully moving the file completely, it picks up the same and process it sucessfully this time and send successful notice this time.

We can't have control over the tool which is monitoring the destination folder because it is a third party tool. However we want to find out the alternative option to place a lock over the destination foler like ReadWrite access till the move operation completes so that 3rd party will not be able to pick up or try to access that file.

Lock A Folder In Professional Manner (without Using Encryption)?

Jun 18, 2011

I want to lock (or completely hide without allowing to see with show hidden folder check) a folder with C# for windows platforms. This should be work for both FAT and NTFS file systems. I do not wont to use encryption since it is slow.

Also I need this as a robust solution so changing CLSIDs is not working.

Also removing permission with FileSystemAccessRule with AccessControlType.Deny also not working for me. Because that only work on NTFS and also if it is worked then user can right click the folder and remove deny AccessControlType.

VB 2005 - Sync Lock In Multithreaded Programs

May 16, 2010

I have been reading through lots of sample code and explainations regaurding the uses of Sync lock in multithreaded programs but still am a little fuzzy on this.

Am I correct in assuming that if I have two or more threads running the same procedure which has a sync lock on a shared resource that the first thread to call the lock will complete its update of the resource and any of the other threads to try and lock this object would just wait in line until it is released by the first object?

I am also a bit fuzzy on what is actually locked by the sync lock.

Lets say I have code that uses sync lock and the object specified is the current thread. Does that also lock the shared resources that are referenced within the sync lock block or would I need to use another method to do this?

What if my shared resourses were all in another class and I issue a sync lock on that class before I try to modify the resources would that be the proper way to go about it?

And last but not least is there any need to use sync lock when the shared resource is in effect read only [meaning the program will read the value but will not change it during runtime]

VS 2005 Deleting Files From A Folder?

Apr 1, 2009

I have created a project where I can attach files and I am displaying the name of the file, example:

Mytestfile.doc
mytestfile.txt
Mytestfile.pdf

I have the names being displayed on a listbox, so far everything is working just the way I expected to work.When a file is selected from my opendialogbox, the file gets saved into a folder under my local disk, so far so good.The problem that I am having is deleting the file from the folder.I have added a delete button and I would like to when I click or highlight one of the file names to go into where the file was saved previously and deleted This is the code that I have for the delete funtion:

[CODE Dim sFileName As String = "C:program filesSupport DeskAttachments" & ListBox1.Text
System.IO.File.Delete(sFileName)]
The problem is that if I add the code to the clcik event under the listbox, it works great, but if I add the code to the click event under my delete button, it doesn't work, what I found is that under the path, if I am under the click event from the listbox when it gets to the lisxtbox.text it displays the file name, which is what I whant, but when i tried the code under the click event under my delete button the listbox.text is blank.

How Detect Folder Permissions In Vista With Net 2005

May 22, 2009

I have an app written on an xp pc which I want users to run on Vista

The app needs to delete a file on a portable drive in a particular folder

This folder was created on the xp machine and copied to the portable drive

The app will not delete a file in this folder on Vista but it will on xp

When I check folder security on vista (which does not exist on xp) I find that the folder does not have full control assigned

my app will write a file to that folder & delete it but will not delete a file put there from the xp pc

If I change the security in vista to full control it works

what I want to do is see if the folder has full control when the user selects it and advise them they need to alter security as I can not do it in the program

basically I want to advise them the moment they select the folder, not when it fails to delete the file after entering misc details in the app which are reuired before the file is deleted.

VS 2005 - Using FileSystemObject To Access All Files In Folder

Apr 5, 2010

I am looking to access all the files from a selected folder . The folder is selected through a folderbrowserdialog. My problem is using a filesystemobject in Visual Basic of Visual Studio 2005 to store the filename and path in a folder object. I have done the same using VB6 and it worked.

The following is my code in VB6.
If filesysObj.FolderExists(folderSel.Text) Then
Set folderObj = filesysObj.GetFolder(folderSel.Text)
For Each fileObj In folderObj.Files
file_name = fileObj.Name
firstpos = InStr(file_name, "fcs_")
.....

Now, I am trying to make changes to my Vb6 code so that it works with VB2005. Following is what I have done so far:
Dim folderObj As String

If My.Computer.FileSystem.DirectoryExists(folderSel.Text) Then
folderObj = System.Environment.GetFolderPath(folderSel.Text)

I am getting an error (InvalidCastException) on line, folderObj = System.Environment.GetFolderPath(folderSel.Text). The message I get is: Conversion from string "C: empfolder" (which is the path) to type 'Integer' is not valid.
