2. Then i have to insert this invoice number as it is in three other tables.
3. Then once i have done so i have to go and update the invoice number by +1 (increment by
1). And i have to do this for each row in the datatable.
During this whole period i do not want anyone to access (read or change) that invoice number. We can lock the table or row. Does not matter. How can i do it? I am not suppose to use store procedure. Lock table ... does not work. It is not an T-SQL stmet select invoice number with (readlock) ....... only works while this stement is runned. I want to have the table or row locked until i have done 1,2 and 3rd steps. I have seaching for a stamt in sql which will do this for me! But didnt find anything. All results point me to SP which i cannot use.

Jun 9, 2011Relatively new to VB.NET coding. Am creating a pretty simple console application that needs to insert over 50,000 records into an Oracle table (OleDB connection). I tried 3 different methods so far: Individual INSERT, insert using a dataset, & using INSERT ALL (commit every 25 records due to # of columns). It seemed like most articles/posts I read recommended the dataset approach, but the INSERT ALL code was definitely the fastest by far.

I can see data in the temporary table by loading it into a grid and everything looks correct.However, when I call an Oracle stored procedure from VB.Net that would manipulate the data in this temporary table, the stored procedure reports that my temporary table is empty.I understood that data in an Oracle global temporary table should be visible to all sessions.

I would think that there are better ways to accomplish this in .NET but I can't seem to find any other answer besides convert excel to csv & load it using Sql Loader or External Table. Does anyone know a cleaner & more efficient way that looping through the ranges creating & executing insert statements?

Jan 27, 2010For speed, I've decided to use temporary tables as the recordsource for a report. The problem occurs when I try and tidy up after the report is closed by trying to drop the temp table. Trying to do this using database.execute "DROP TABLE x" where x is the name of the temp table. Get a Run-time 3211 error that the table still has locks. I figured that any locks generated by the report would be dropped at least by the Deactivate event, but that doesn't seem to be the case. how to use a temp table in the report withot incurring an enduring table lock? The report is the sole user.

May 16, 2010I have been reading through lots of sample code and explainations regaurding the uses of Sync lock in multithreaded programs but still am a little fuzzy on this.
Am I correct in assuming that if I have two or more threads running the same procedure which has a sync lock on a shared resource that the first thread to call the lock will complete its update of the resource and any of the other threads to try and lock this object would just wait in line until it is released by the first object?
I am also a bit fuzzy on what is actually locked by the sync lock.
Lets say I have code that uses sync lock and the object specified is the current thread. Does that also lock the shared resources that are referenced within the sync lock block or would I need to use another method to do this?
What if my shared resourses were all in another class and I issue a sync lock on that class before I try to modify the resources would that be the proper way to go about it?
And last but not least is there any need to use sync lock when the shared resource is in effect read only [meaning the program will read the value but will not change it during runtime]

Or in a SQL developer manner. How can I do that? Browsed through a lot of tutorials and howtos on the internet, did not get anywhere. I think (and correct me if I am wrong) that it's gotta be something with DataGridView. But I don't know how to create and populate a datatable with the result of as Select statement, how to create a dataset.
