VS 2008 Access XP 2002 Report Menu Via WinForms App?

Mar 8, 2012

Been casually working on getting my users out of the DB completely. We use a vb.net app I created as a front-end but there are many reports that were built in Access and I want to give my users a way to open Access and run the report via my WinForms app.

Have gotten as far as being able to open an instance of Access and do what I need to do. Where I left off was running into a problem with not being able to tell if an instance of the msaccess.exe process is running and use it instead of opening another.

.net - Winforms Menu As Array?

Jun 20, 2009

I know it most likely possible to access a winforms menu like an array but I am not seeing it in the menu designer of VS2008? What I mean is, my app has a typical menu bar across the top, with multiple items on each drop down. As it is written (I inherited this code), each menu item is a separate name, i.e.

myMenuOption1MenuItem
myMenuOption2MenuItem
myMenuOption3MenuItem
myMenuOption4MenuItem

[Code]...

Obviously I could set/unset each menu item by name, but for a lot of reasons I'd prefer to use loops.

Winforms - Generating A Pdf Report In .net?

Aug 24, 2009

i will need to generate a report based on user input for every food that will look like this:i plan to have a pdf displayed on a winform using the adobe pdf reader control. the pdf will be the header of the above graphic, but the list of foods and the reactions will be generated. this is what i need: i need the form to be printable to exactly at a usual paper size, what ever it is 8.5x11 or something i need to have images and probably textboxes that will go on top of the pdf. so each food name will probably be a separate textbox and each reaction picture will be created during run time from the user input.i would like to clarify that i will not need to generate a new pdf file. i will just use an existing pdf file and will put images and text over it what is the simplest way to accomplish this report?

C# - Produce A PDF Report From Code In .NET For Scientific Data (winforms)?

Mar 13, 2011

I have a "legacy" VB.NET application (winforms) written for .NET 1.1, and re-compiled under 2.0 that produces a report in HTML via a custom XmlTextWriter wrapper that is suited for HTML. The user then would print the report into pdf if they wanted to.

That was 2003, and now technology has changed a bit, especially within the C#/VB.NET world, and customers want to skip the HTML part, and go to PDF directly. What are my options for open source, or low cost PDF libraries that work well with .NET and must support tables with pictures (generated bitmaps from code) and text.

Remove VB Net Standard 2002?

I have read and followed the advice in KB Articles 312383, 320114 and 319714 with no success. The MSIs would not even run in admin mode. Has anyone removed this product without the installation disk? Is there a source for a detailed list of the files and folders I must manually remove?

Winforms - 2010 Synchronize Two Access Databases?

Sep 15, 2011

I'm writing a desktop application that uses the main access database that will be hosted on a central server, but there will be a laptop with the app on that has an offline mode so records can be created offsite. When the laptop returns I want it needs to be synced back to the main database.

Has anybody got any pointers on a way to do this, I've briefly read about JRO but is there an alternative / better method?

Originally, I was just going to write some custom code to do this, but thought I'd check to make sure there wasn't something already out there.

Winforms - Use Custom Roles For User Access?

Sep 2, 2009

I have a winforms (VB 2008) based app that I'm developing and I want to use custom roles for user access.Application Layout:I have a Main form that opens a login form when certain actions occur. The Login form intern uses an authentication class that I've created, to authenticate users and set access rights. On my Applications settings page, I have Authentication Mode set to Application-defined because I cannot use Windows Authentication in the environment where this will be deployed.

The application uses a MS SQL 2005 db and the 3 tables I'm using in the authentication process are the User_Account , User_Roles and User_Access tables. The combination of an account in the User_Account and the roles within the User_Roles table are the bases for the User_Access table. Using the User_Access table is how I assign access to the various functions within the application

Authentication Method:To authenticate a user, I'm using the "My.User.CurrentPrincipal" (Code below) method. The My.User object works great and allows the use of "My.User.Name" property throughout the app when referring to the currently authenticated user.

Access Method:In order to set the current users access levels I'm using a function within my Authentication class and passing in My.User.Name as a variable. The function uses a Dataset Table Adaptor and a Select Case statement inside a For loop to assign all the access levels for the user (Function code below).

My Problem:This method of assigning access rights to a user does work but it's not persistent throughout the application as the My.User object is.I would like to find a way to create custom roles through the My.User object using its .IsInRole property. I would like to have these roles dynamically created using my User_Roles table. This would allow the custom roles to be used throughout my application using the My.User.IsInRole ("MyRole")syntax ...similar to how I'm currently able to use My.User.Name.Unfortunately the only roles I can currently validate against are the built in Windows
type accounts (Adminisrator ...ect.).

'User Authentication example:
If Authenticate.CheckPassword(tbxUserName.Text, strPassword) Then
My.User.CurrentPrincipal = New GenericPrincipal(New GenericIdentity(tbxUserName.Text), Nothing)[code].....

Winforms Webbrowser Control Access Label?

Jun 11, 2012

I have a question about the webbrowser control that I hope someone can answer. I am working on a document retrieval and storing class that uses HTML to display and save data. I want to use the webbrowser control in winforms using VB.Net. I only want to store the fields values in the html document, not the whole document. I am hoping to use labels in html and read them with the DOM of the web browser control but am not sure how to do this.

Has anyone done this before and could someone please provide some sample code on how to do this?

Office Automation :: .NET Add-in Does Not Work With Excel 2002

Jan 22, 2009

I have created a C# .Net DLL add-in for Excel. When I try it on my home machine with WinXP and OfficeXP 2003 it works as expected. When I try it on a couple of machines at work with WinXP and OfficeXP2002 it does not work.I have spent 2 days solid reading up on this subject in general and I still cannot get to the bottom of the problem. As far as I can work out what I am trying to do should work with Excel 2002.

Some details:

- I am using Visual Studio EXPRESS 2008 (C#).

- The assembly is signed with a Strong Name Key File.

- I have installed the OfficeXP (2002) PIAs.

- I have created a class DLL in accordance with many MSDN and other internet posts.

- I have registered the DLL using RegAsm.exe and GACUtil.exe.

- I have added registry entries for Excel for CURRENT_USER so Excel should know about the DLL.

The DLL adds some Automation functions (Tools-Addins-Automation) which can be accessed in cells within Excel (for example you would enter =MultiplyFirstBySecond(2, 3) in a cell and get a result of 6) and also implements the IDTExtensibility2 methods so that when Excel is opened it creates a button on the toolbar which when pressed pops up a message box. It it this functionality (adding buttons with code behind them) that I want to expand on.I have attached the zips of the batch and registry files I have created to register the DLL in the GAC and in the registry. I have also attached a zip of the complete project. I would like to know if there is anything I should check with my machine's setup or my project or my registration/installation of DLLs, PIAs etc in order to make my DLL work on my Excel 2002 machine.

Application - Uses VB6 For Maintenance Programs - Run The Report From A Menu Within Application

Mar 16, 2011

I have an application that I'm creating that uses VB6 for the maintenance programs, and visual studio 2005 to create the reports. At work we use reporting services to host the reports, but in my application I want to run the report from a menu within the application, not in reporting services. (A) Is this possible? I think I've read about a report viewer that can be embedded into .net applications. If I create a menu system in .net, that shells to execute the maintenance programs that are from vb6, or fires off the report viewer, does this sound feasible? The application is supposed to run connected to their SQL 2005 server via a VPN; I get blank looks when I ask them if they have reporting services installed...
