VS 2008 Argument 'Path' Is Nothing Or Empty

Jul 20, 2009

My app is functionally fine. Although, after the login, it throws up this error:

"Argument 'Path' is Nothing or empty". If I click continue, it proceeds without any problem. I looked up on msdn forums and realized that I need to add a valid argument 'path'. Here is the link to the msdn page I looked at:

Create An Empty Dictionary For Optional Argument?

I have a function that has an optional dictionary argument. Since it's optional, it needs a default value, and I'd like to set it to an empty dictionary instead of Nothing. How do I go about that?

Run A Statement That Has A File Path As Argument?

Dec 2, 2008

I'm trying to run a statement that has a file path as argument. It works, unless a space is present in the file path.

The code is:

set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.SendKeys "xcacls.vbs \" & hostname & "C$program files estmap estfile.txt /G BUILTINeveryone:r /f /t /e{enter}"

I've tried everything I can think of, but it's not working! I've seen other threads with this problem, but they're never posed at with the sendkeys function.

VS 2010 Explorer Context Menu - Path Argument?

Nov 21, 2011

I want to add an option to the explorer context menu that appears whenever a user right clicks on a folder or drive. So I add the following reg key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFoldershellMyProgramcommand
"(Default)" value within is set to:
C:MyProgram.exe "%1"

and all works fine for folders, the %1 gets expanded to the relevant folder path that the user clicked on. However, when right clicking on a drive (e.g C drive in My Computer) the fact that the path then has a trailing backslash seems to seems to mess things up as the backslash acts as an escape character and makes the last quote mark get passed in as part of the command line (and the backslash is removed completely).For example if the following command is called from a context menu generated by the user right clicking on their C drive: "MyProgram.exe" "%1" You would expect the final command line to be this:MyProgram.exe C:But what actually happens is this: MyProgram.exe C:" I can add a backslash in manually (e.g "%1") but then it works fine for drives and not for folders.

VS 2008 - Passing Class As Argument For Function

Mar 23, 2010

VB.NET is not letting me dance with both feet, or piss with both hands. I've got one foot and one arm tied behind my back at every turn. I want to use this statement in a function:
Return CType(Formatter.Deserialize(FS), DS)
Seems doable, right?

Function ReadFileStream(ByRef FS As FileStream, ByRef DS As Object)
Dim Formatter As New BinaryFormatter
FS.Position = 0
Return CType(Formatter.Deserialize(FS), DS)
End Function

Right? I mean, CType only accepts a class name as the second argument. I can't give it an instance of a class, or it croaks. Yet if I try to pass the class name as the argument to that function:
DataInfo = ReadFileStream(FileStream1, DataStruct)

VB.NET croaks on this, too, complaining that "'DataStruct' is a type and cannot be used as an expression.". It's used as an expression by CType just fine outside of the function. Does the VB.NET legislature provide a clause that allows for a 'Type' to be passed as an argument in a function? Writing all the supporting code ten million times to deserialize a file using CType ten million times in a large application will get very complicated and tricky very quickly. It should be handled by a routine so that any cases and adjustments that come up can be dealt with in one spot.

VS 2008 Sending A Collection Of File Names As An Argument

Aug 5, 2009

I need to send a switches and a filename to a command line application.First I'll need to get a collection of files that can range from 0 to an infinite amount.Then I can start the process with the correct switches. Normally, within the command line application, I would specify the specific filename and send it as an argument to the application.However, I'm not sure how I would do this. The names of the files have to be preceeded by a specific switch. I can't remember the switch right now, but we'll call it [b]-f[/f].[code]So, I need to figure out how to send all or each of the file names as an argument.

I'm working on a helper class that will make things easier for me when connecting to and viewing a crystal report.Now I need to create a Property called DataSource. Crystal has a SetDataSource method that has 4 overloads/constructors(not sure what the right term is)1 accepts a System.Collections.Ienumerable, the 2nd accepts a Dataset, the 3rd a DataTable, and the 4th a DataReader.Now I want my property to be able to accept all those. So what Type must my property be.If I can just have DataSet and DataTable for now it would be fine, as I work with those mostly Public Property DataSource as?
