I am not sure about how to go about doing this but here is what I want to do. I want to make an array from a text file and have it load a run time. Here is my code so far but I am a bit stuck
FileInput
Public Class fileinput
Public Function GetFileContents(ByVal FullPath As String, Optional ByRef ErrInfo As String =
I have a text file with for example this data in it :
"19 Mar 2010","6:00","16:00","10","1","9","6.61","59.49" "20 Mar 2010","9:45","19:15","10","1","9","6.61","69.89" "21 Mar 2010","9:00","17:00","8","1","8","6.61","99.32"
I used " , " to delimit individual pieces of data and " " to denote end of line.I'd like to be able to split the files into lines and assign each line to an array then split each of those array strings into the comma " , " delimited data and feed each piece of data into another array ready for writing to a datagridview.
I've spent a while trying to get Split() to work but I get errors regarding converting strings to one-dimensional arrays Also the Split() method asks for a "ParamArray" but I haven't been able to find examples of other people providing them on the net any idea what those are about?
I have a text file, with several lines of comma delimited data. The easy part is that each item fits into the same field, so I can use a 2 dimensional array. I would like to use .net classes to do this, not the old file handling functions I was used to.How can I take the text file and load the data in the text file into a 2 dimensional array. Here is example data in test.txt
I have a Comma Separated value file in .txt format... simply put, its a bunch of data delimited by commas and text qualifier is separated with ""For example:
"So and so","1234","Blah Blah", "Foo","Bar","","","","" "foofoo","barbar","etc.."
Where ever there is a carriage return it signifies a new row and every comma separates a new column from another. My next step is to go into VB.net and create an array using these values and having the commas serve as the delimeter and somehow making the array into a table where the text files' format matches the array After that array has been created, I need to select only certain parts of that array and store the value into a variable for later use.... how to make the array and selecting the certain info out of it..
im trying to make an example program for a teacher friend of mine

thats just what i have so far but im really having trouble getting the other part into a 2d array. i want the second half to look like this when done: the oppsite of what it looks like in the file.
I have one combobox, two buttons (Add and View) and listbox. When I click button Add text from combobox is added to text file. This is code for Add button:
I am attempting to gather a group of file names from a directory. I am able to do this. I tested the code by having the list populate into a listbox and all desired items were added to the list.
Here is my code: Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strPath) Dim dir1 As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.txt") Dim dFiles As IO.FileInfo ListBox.Items.Add(dFiles)
However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.
Hi, i'm trying to use the treeview to display the text of a rtf (rich text file) file when an specific node if clicked.HomeOMGWOOTFor example, if i pick OMG, i want the text of lol.rtf to be displayed on a richtextbox. But somehow i just can't manage to get it... I know to import the text of a .txt file to a textbox, but using the treeview makes it more complicated. This is the code im using right now:
Private Sub TreeView1_NodeMouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TreeNodeMouseClickEventArgs) Handles TreeView1.NodeMouseClick Select Case e.Node.Index Case 0
[code]....
Another thing is, that i can't import the *.rtf text into a richtextbox and i don't know why.
I'm working on a homework assignment for class from the Programming in Visual Basics 2008 published by Mc Graw Hill. It is the Chapter 11 Case Study. We are to create a program that makes a text file and populates it with data. Then use a second program that reads the contents of the text file into form containers. The first half is working perfectly.
I'm trying to read specific values from the text file (below)[code]...
How do I store only the data I require in the array? I've tried split and substring but cannot work out a usable method - I need on the text after the colon for each line.
Im doing some work right now for a class and this is my first time ever using arrays and im having some trouble. I need to make a program that places the names in an array using a text file and displays all presidents for a requested range of numbers. every time i try and run the program it says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." but im not really sure what that means, Heres the code
Public Class frmPresidents Dim numLow As Integer, numHigh As Integer, Pres() As String Private Sub btnPresidents_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As
So I am trying to learn vb.net and am a beginner. I find alot of online tutorials, but have yet to find one where I can follow what I'm attemping to do, just bits and pieces. I want to keep the code basic until I learn more, and in this case use two - one dimenstion arrays. I built a program to write Employee Names and Wages to a txt file.ie.
Jack Black vbtab 60000 Nick Mole vbtab 45000 and so on
I want to bring back that data and place the name and the and wage each into an array so I can calculate different criteria when I hit a search button. I will not know how many names and wages will be written to txt file. I am having trouble understanding exactly how to do this as all the examples I've found list only one array or the txt file is line by line like.
Jack Black 60000 Nick Mole 45000
Everything else I've found is over myhead so far. Here is my code so far if anyone can let me know where I'm going wrong. I have one error that tells me "property chars is read only". I have no idea what that means, even after reading up on it really...and I'm not sure if the rest of the code I've wrote is 100% anyway I assure you that I've spent more than a few hours trying to solve this myself.
specifically reading from a text file, and placing that into an array.
But the problem is, that in each line of the text file, I have at least three different separators. Sample:
14~8|3~7|16~5|7~4|1~2|3~1|_17 12~12|5~10|2~8|5~7|_0 etc.
[Code]....
So, what I want to do, is read each line of the text file into a separate item into an array, and each item in that array is a record of another array(of terms) and a single(constant).
I've already got SOME code, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to work, and I don't know much about reading from text files and string manipulation in the first place.
I am writing a program in VB10 and the programs purpose is to read an encrypted text file and decrypt it into a textbox onscreen. You can then save the text. The problem is that it keeps saving text in files like this:
H e l l o
I cant figure it out. Here is my save array code:
First the savefiledialog Sub SaveFileDialog() Dim strFileName
My homework task is to add data to an array of records and then save this to a file.
I'm having problem saving to a text file. I have the following code:
Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click Dim SW As New StreamWriter("Records.dat", False)
[Code].....
In my test example here I realise that the reason I have 4 lines written is because I have 4 elements to the array, but why am I getting this gobbledegook instead of records with a name and age?
I know I have added the data correctly to the structure because I can redisplay it elsewhere on my form. I just don't get how to save data in a structure to a text file.
My task requires use of an array and/or array of records, a text file
i am trying to read from a text file and store the data in an array but i don't know how to get started with my code. can someone please get me started here.i have start with the code for locating the file, but i am having difficulty reading the file.
Dim strFileName As String OpenAnswerFile.ShowDialog() strFileName = OpenAnswerFile.FileName
I have a csv text file, shown below that I want to edit based on user inputs. When the user wants to change the current price of a stock, they enter the stock name, and the new price. When the button is clicked, VB needs to find the appropriate stock, and then change the current price. The data needs to be pulled from the text file into a temporary file, changed, then the temp file needs to be renamed to the original file name and the original file deleted. This is the only part of the program I can not figure out. I have put my program code here as well. The click event that I need this to work on is: Private Sub btnUpdateStock_Click --- I have been playing with code in that section, so that's why there si abunch of crazey code there.
Ok I've tried for a while now but i cannot figure this out.I want to be able to take a text file of any size and convert it to a 2 dimensional array. Doing arrays with a set size is what i understand but i cannot figure out how to write a loop to find the size of the text file to be put into an array.
I'm trying to take items from a list box, add them to an array and then output the array items to a text file using Visual Basic 2008 express. The number of items in the list is unknown so I can't set the array size to start.[code]I'm sure this is easier than I'm thinking but after searching google, finding multiple different "methods" and having none of them work for me,

in here is where i am having the problem i don't know how to get all the information i need into one specific array element within an array.. i want to get the year and the module status added to the end of an array element
I'm looking for some code to write /read an array to a text file in vb6.i have an array of a fixed size, and i need to write that into a text file, then later in another program i need to access that text file and write every element to a new array of the same size.the elements will be integer values, but "Long" datatypes. there will be no strings or anything else, just whole numbers.
