The number of items in the list is unknown so I can't set the array size to start.

Mar 11, 2010I am attempting to gather a group of file names from a directory. I am able to do this. I tested the code by having the list populate into a listbox and all desired items were added to the list.
Here is my code:
Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(strPath)
Dim dir1 As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.txt")
Dim dFiles As IO.FileInfo
ListBox.Items.Add(dFiles)
However, a listbox is not my desired output. I am attempting to write these file names to a text file for purposes of then parsing the information to a datatable to compare with another datatable. How to get my filenames written to a textfile.

Creating An Array From A CSV Text File And Selecting Certain Parts Of The Array?
Mar 20, 2011I have a Comma Separated value file in .txt format... simply put, its a bunch of data delimited by commas and text qualifier is separated with ""For example:
"So and so","1234","Blah Blah", "Foo","Bar","","","",""
"foofoo","barbar","etc.."
Where ever there is a carriage return it signifies a new row and every comma separates a new column from another.My next step is to go into VB.net and create an array using these values and having the commas serve as the delimeter and somehow making the array into a table where the text files' format matches the array After that array has been created, I need to select only certain parts of that array and store the value into a variable for later use.... how to make the array and selecting the certain info out of it..

Source File Is Different From When The Module Was Built
Feb 1, 2011I have "added an existing project" to my solution. This item has been used in several different solutions but I am running into an issue for the 1st time w/ it.
I have 2 applications:
X & Y
I copied the "existing project" from the X folder to the Y folder (so I would not be altering the same "existing project". Then I "added" the project from the new Y location. I also added reference to the DLL file in location Y. However when I debug from program Y it keeps running the code from location X. Everything that I know to look at looks correct. Any ideas on what is causing the issue and how to resolve it?
FYI, To prove the point I changed the folder name for testing in the X folder. When I then debug program Y i get this error:
Source file: C:VB_FIlesYY"ExistingLibrary""Existing".vb
Module: C:VB_FilesYYinRelease"ExistingLibrary".dll
Process: [4416] Y.vshost.exe
The source file is different from when the module was built. Would you like the debugger to use it anyway?

Reading Text File Into Array?
Jun 26, 2011So I am trying to learn vb.net and am a beginner. I find alot of online tutorials, but have yet to find one where I can follow what I'm attemping to do, just bits and pieces. I want to keep the code basic until I learn more, and in this case use two - one dimenstion arrays. I built a program to write Employee Names and Wages to a txt file.ie.
Jack Black vbtab 60000
Nick Mole vbtab 45000
and so on
I want to bring back that data and place the name and the and wage each into an array so I can calculate different criteria when I hit a search button. I will not know how many names and wages will be written to txt file. I am having trouble understanding exactly how to do this as all the examples I've found list only one array or the txt file is line by line like.

Everything else I've found is over myhead so far.Here is my code so far if anyone can let me know where I'm going wrong. I have one error that tells me "property chars is read only". I have no idea what that means, even after reading up on it really...and I'm not sure if the rest of the code I've wrote is 100% anyway I assure you that I've spent more than a few hours trying to solve this myself.

Reading Text From File Into Array?
May 29, 2011specifically reading from a text file, and placing that into an array.
But the problem is, that in each line of the text file, I have at least three different separators.
Sample:
14~8|3~7|16~5|7~4|1~2|3~1|_17
12~12|5~10|2~8|5~7|_0
etc.

So, what I want to do, is read each line of the text file into a separate item into an array, and each item in that array is a record of another array(of terms) and a single(constant).
I've already got SOME code, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to work, and I don't know much about reading from text files and string manipulation in the first place.

In my test example here I realise that the reason I have 4 lines written is because I have 4 elements to the array, but why am I getting this gobbledegook instead of records with a name and age?
I know I have added the data correctly to the structure because I can redisplay it elsewhere on my form. I just don't get how to save data in a structure to a text file.

Feb 17, 2011I am working on a vb forms application in VS2008.What I am looking to do is have 3 file managers on the form.The top is the source where files can be copied to the 2 other file managers.What I have been looking for is an example of the file explorer so I can modify it.So far I have been unsuccessful in finding a good example so I am here to ask the experts.So the gist is the first file explorer will allow a user to connect to thier local hard drive.The other two file explorers would allow the user to connect to two different servers through entering the path they want to view those file trees.After that the user could click on the file they want to copy and then hit a button for example and the file would be copied from the local to the two other areas.Would it be easier to just use text boxes with a confirmation that the files are being copied?Or can a full file manager be built to drag and drop files?

Dec 15, 2009I have a csv text file, shown below that I want to edit based on user inputs. When the user wants to change the current price of a stock, they enter the stock name, and the new price. When the button is clicked, VB needs to find the appropriate stock, and then change the current price.The data needs to be pulled from the text file into a temporary file, changed, then the temp file needs to be renamed to the original file name and the original file deleted.This is the only part of the program I can not figure out.
