Im attempting to make a "Licensing" system, but I dont know where to start. I know I would need some sort of "database". Heres the basic idea of what I would like my program to turn out. "License" creator: -I give a "permanent" ID Generator to someone -They get an ID that only works for their computer, and doesnt change unless the computer is changed -They give me their ID -I input the ID into a "database" -Program creates a "License" file using the "permanent" ID Main Program: -Loads the License File -Checks if the License is a valid file (using the database)

A first chance exception of type 'System.IO.FileNotFoundException' occurred in WindowsApplication1.exe I am bit confused by this error as I am not accessing any files but editing the registry. I am running Visual Basic 2010 (as administrator), dot net framework 4 on Windows 7.

I am attempting to make a form public. I've start out with this class:[code]I can see the stupid form thru intellisense, but when this code is run I'm getting a null reference exception. I believe this is because the stupid form has not been initialized. I thought that placing 'new' in my class definition would initialize the form.

I had this incredibly ambitious goal to make a video game and so I am teaching myself/relying on kindness and knowledge of others as I go along. So far I have learned a lot, however needless to say, this is a monstrously difficult challenge, however one that I am very passionate about completing. The idea is that I am making a trading card style game and I was hoping that I could continue to use this thread and your kindness to keep me going whenever nessecessary throughout this challenge.So, here is where I am now. My next goal(and where I am currently stuck) is making i so that when the user clicks on one of the items in the listbox, a picture of the appropriate card(saved in a pictureBox of its own on a different form, and referenced in the card via the picture element) will be placed inside the empty picture box on the deckPage.

I need to reformat my HD and will lose everything, including my VB stuff. I can't positively identify all of it's contents/shared folders/assciated files, etc so as to back it all up. I would like to know how difficult will it be to simply reinstall all of the software from MS, concerning the registration/licensing/activation process? Or will I just have to start w/a new copy/registration/licensing ,etc? By the way, I am talking about "Express Editions"

Im trying to make a basic Client/Server. The server can handle multiple clients and each client can send /recieve messages from the server.It works fine with just 1 client. but as soon as i connect with a second client. The first one no longer works. Anything sent from the first client is ignored by the server and when running the server in debug mode it gets errors from the client 1 stream.
Its as if the server will only hold one stream at a time and whenever another client joins the other streams are shut but the new client works fine. Even though i never close a stream.

Edit: FINALLY FOUND IT! Stupid mistake i forgot to put the ClientN variable up by one for each new client.So i was creating a new space in the array but erasing the first slot for the new client

I have the ID's of the Username and Password fields on the site, I just need to know how to get the info to the fields.

A form has a multi line textbox that is read line by line searching for "MSH". When found it adds that line as a parent to the treeview. each following line is added as a child. Works fine if only one "MSH" line but if more than 1 I get must clone or remove message. I did clone the message but I don't want a duplicate of what is there. I have tried several variations and have not been able to get the 2nd MSH to be added as a child but not parent.I have started to repeate code so was hoping some of you experts can point me in the correct direction. Here the section of code that partialy works.

I have a program where the main form is called (shown/activated) via a keystroke combination. When the form pops-up, I've set the focus to a textbox to begin typing right away.
When the keystroke event occurs, I have:Me.Activate()And in the Form_Activated event:
Textbox1.Focus() Simple right? It works the way I want it to, even after I've compiled and run the EXE, but ONLY if Visual Studio 2008 is running. Once I close my project in VS, with the program still running outside VS, the form is shown, but input focus is not set to the textbox.
Input focus is however still set to whatever it was previously, like a word document for example. My form will be topmost, but if I attempt to input text, it would still be entered into the word doc. why having my projects' source open in VS has anything to do with running the compiled EXE of said program?
I've even tried API calls to SetForegroundWindow and ShowWindow with the same result.

I'm, following the tutorial on creating your first program in Visual basic. I'm instructed to start a new project, and select windows form application. When I hit okay I get the following error:"Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Build.Engine, Version 3.5.0.0, culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

I'm trying to make a login system on visual basic. I need it to be able to connect to an access database to find the usernames and passwords. I have coded it as follows:

The problem with this is that it says in the error log that an expression is expected and 'cmd' is not declared. The last section of the SELECT statement seems to comment itself out. What can I do to fix this?

I have a vb program that is closed source free program. I am using a CONSOLE PROGRAM licensed under the GPL license. This is not GPL source code, but an actual GPL app.(I am using process.start to run it) and I was wondering if there is a licensing incompatibility or something. I am clueless on licensing. Would I just have to include a license file with it, or would I have to release the code, or what.

I installed my old Visual Basic programmes in Windows 7 and I have two problems.
1- VB itself which apparently is not compatible.
2- I used some controls which are not supported anymore but I used vbusc.exe for Windows XP and it worked. Now for Win7 what can I do?

I have up until recently developed only in-house custom applications and I have never had a need to protect this software with any type of licensing/ protection mechanisms.I'm now working on a new project for a software app that I plan on distributing to a relatively small number of clients (1000 or so) and I need to consider some type of licensing/software protection solution that I can easily integrate into my application.I'm also looking for specific product recommendations (if possible) based on users experiences. With vast assortment of product offerings out there, I'm having a very hard time wading through them all.
I would like to stick with a software option over a hardware dongle type solutions so that I can make distribution and activation as painless as possible for my customers¦but would consider hardware options if need be.I have tried the KeyLOK hardware evaluation kit but it seems to be a little difficult to implement and it would force my customers to wait days before they could initially activate and use my application. [code] License registration and tracking via Internet..Software distribution is very controlled and it's not a techie type user audience, so hacking is not a major concern but I would like to protect the application as much as possible.

I have created an Excel Ribbon Addin that has some custom features that will benefit a relatively small business niche. The target companies number less than 1,000.I don't want to limit any one company's usage of the Addin...meaning I want them to be able to install and use the Addin as often as they need to, for as long as they need to, on as many computers as they need to.
The thing I want to prevent is sharing of the Addin. There are family members in this industry, that own different companies in different parts of the country...there are close friends in this industry that each own different companies. I want each company to purchase the Addin instead of share it.I have created a License Agreement that they have to agree to before the Addin is installed. But, that is as far as I have gone with it at this point.So, this leads me to 2 questions:
1. Is it worth the investment and effort to create this type of limitation for such a small market?
2. If so, what is the best way to go about accomplishing this?

I am the CEO of Virtual American Eagle airlines. I am looking for some help on how to make an automated PIREP system. PIREP stands for PIlot REPort. What I need it to do is connect to my site, make the pilot login, connect to FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator X) and FS9 (Microsoft Flight Simulator 2009). It needs to track: that the engines are off, the speeds or takeoff, climb, cruise, and decent. Then I want it to track the time that the wheels hit the runway, the time that the engiines go off, then automatically put it into a list and with the push of a button, send it to our site.

I have a form where two fields on the first page of the form make up the primary key. I want to check for duplicate values before attempting to insert the record, since I don't want the user to go all the way through the form only to find out they can't submit it. So I'm trying to check for duplicate values when the user tries to go to the next page of the form. I wasn't quite sure how to do it, and sure enough I'm getting an error. ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.") The problem is apparently in my if statement, "If myValue.Length > 0 Then", but I'm not sure what needs to be in place of that.
