I am creating a code for a school project that calculates the shipping cost for a package. In this program the user enters the weight of the package ( in pounds ) and selects the destination of the package. The application with determine the cost of the shipping. The destination of the package can be the US continental, Hawaii or Alaska. If the package is going to Hawaii a 20% surcharge is added to the shipping cost. If the package is going to Alaska, a 26% surcharge is added the shipping cost.
This is my code thus far. When applying my weight in pounds and selecting the destination I still keep getting 0.0 for the total.

I am running into trouble with some code I am doing for an assignment. The section within the apostrophes (If Then Else) is the section that I am having trouble with. When the user selects a seat type and then clicks the compute button, the wrong cost is displayed instead of an accurate cost.

View 2 RepliesI was trying to make a calculator which takes the amont of copies you want to make and it tells you the cost. Then you type in the amount you want to enter and if its less a message box comes up saying "please enter more money". I've had a few problems
1. when i use formatcurrency the program crashes for no apparent reason
2. if i calculate cost without entering any copies then it crashes (ive tried putting a msgbox in but it crashes anyway)
3. if i get the msgbox to come up saying "Please enter more money" i had to remove the formatcorrency tag.
I certainly hope I don't aggravate you with what is certainly a very simple code problem. I have never programmed before, but I do have a background in tech support, etc. I have an assignment to do and it's frustrating to wade through the information out there to find exactly what I need and nothing more.The assignment has 3 parts, one of which i've done. We are to do the same function in both javascript and VB. I was able to take a sample we did in class that caluclates a 10% discount and modify it so it calculates the total. Now, I have to modify that into a VB sln file. then write about the differences but that part will be cake.

From a Pocket PC the user should enter the number of minutes used during the past month, in order to calculate the cost of the cell phone bill. The plan allows 300 minutes for $29.95 per month. For each minute over 300 the cost is $0.17 cents per minute. Tax and Fees are $4.85 a month.
1. User enters the number of minutes used during the past month.
2. Based on plan rate of 300 minutes for $29.95 and 17 cents for each minute over 300 calculate the cost of the bill including the fixed cost of $4.85.
3. The user must be able to initiate the calculation and display the individual charges and the total cost of the cell phone bill.

For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

I got 2 dtpDateTimePicker1 and dtpDateTimePicker2 with txtStart.Text and txtend.text there showing the ("en-US") "MM . dd. yyyy" and i get the date difference , works fine but i want to use the German ("de-DE") When i chance the format to dtpDateTimePicker2.CustomFormat = "dd / MM / yyyy". its not calculating the days right

Let's say I have two date values, date1 and date2. date1 stores the date today, and date2 is the result when I subtract 7 days from the date today. Is there any function in VB that makes me get the exact date of the day after I subtract 7 days from it? (ex: if today is 1/22, the output once I subtract 7 days from the date today would be 1/15)

I am making a small tool that require some calculation. I am using hashtable to store values that I need to calculate. This tool continuously extract data on specific time interval(30 seconds) from webpage and add those data into the hashtable. Now the problem is I need to store the previous extraction data and when new extraction occurs, I need to deduct the previous data from new data.Here is the process I am currently following:

On first run it shows the result of Data3 = 100 which is currect. But on second run I need to redefine the value of Data2 = Data1 . So I need a result of Data3 = 0 on second run. This may not be the proper way to do this sort of operation. I have also tried using listbox, listview and even textfile to store the Data2 and recall that on second run.
I have a program where I have to calculate straight-line depreciation (cost * 1/n) n being the number of years to depreciate, and Double-Declining depreciation (cost * 2/n) using user input for year of purchase, cost, and years of depreciation. The output needs to be put into 4 columns in a list box. Year, Value at beginning of year, Amount of depreciation during the year and Total depreciation to the end of the year.
The problem I am having is with my loop. It is not properly calculating. I'm sure I am doing something wrong that is simple, but I can't see it.

I am trying to make a program that can calculate the percentage of people passing an exam. There are buttons for each letter grade, and working label counters for each time you press a button. Each button looks like this, except replace the letter with the appropriate one.

(1) I've read a lot of questions about IDisposable where the answers recommend not using Finalize unless you really need to because of the process time involved.What I haven't seen is how much this cost is and how often it's paid. Every millisecond? second? hour, day etc.
(2) Also, it seems to me that Finalize is handy when its not always known if an object can be disposed. For instance, the framework font class. A control can't dispose of it because it doesn't know if the font is shared. The font is usually created at design time so the user won't know to dispose it, therefore finalize kicks in to finally get rid of it when there are no references left. Is that a correct impression?

I am trying to calculate a total cost from an elapsed time. Dependant on how long the time is, this will calculate the total cost. It has to be 3 to every hour. The elapsed time is displayed in label6 in "hh:MM:ss" format and the total cost needs to be displayed in label8.

Below is the print screen for my application. You will realised that the Lamb tandoori which is going for $3 cost only $21 after increasing the quantity ordered using the "+" button.In addition, i have created different list boxes for different food categories.Each category's food items is selling at the same price.

I have a class assignment where i have to calculate the total cost of a parking garage from hours but i have to do it with a method function. So this might be a stupid question but can you read the user input values from a textbox in the function itself or do they have to be read in and recalled from the Private Sub Button1_Click section?
