EX: SendMessage(Client.ID,"Hello")
Is their a way to give every client that is connected to the server an ID.
EX: SendMessage(Client.ID,"Hello")
I need to check if my client is connected to the server by starting a new thread. So in short I need a way to know if the client is still connected to the server.
Here is my
[code]...
My first post here in vb forums. I'm new to sockets programming since I migrated from Winsock and I learn a lot from Atheist. using his code, I can't access the messageReceived() every time a client sends a message on the server. but then I put a code to catch the message on sub doRead() and I can retrieve the message. My problem now is how can I determine if a client is still connected to the server or not so I can delete it on the ConnectedClient ?
[Code]...
Note: the server runs on Win7 x64 ultimate and the clients are laptops on win7 x86. I read a comment that the server should be having a static IP address, but when did it together with the clients, It still doesn't work. I am just using a switch for the network.
I'm trying to make a client and a server connected in vb 2010. how to make a client and server connected? There is only vb2008 in the codebank and if my vb2010 tries to convert it to vb 2010 it will error.
View 1 RepliesI have written a code for sending emails using my vb.net application,ok.Now i want to inform my client if and only if he is not connected to the internet before the sending emails.so it means the purpose of my code will be to check if he is online or nt and if not then inform him to get online and then try sending the email.How to do this?
View 5 Repliesi have made tcp connection to this webpage using tcpclienti can send commands like GET /Pagename.aspx to get the htmlnow is it possible that from webpage.aspx i can get the connected client stream and write to it and tcpclient gets that data ?
View 1 RepliesI have a simple tcp server listening for clients. I use a mud client to test if it's working. The mud client says that it's connected to 127.0.0.1, but the server doesn't show the msgbox that a client has connected.[code]
View 3 RepliesI would like to ask how to connect our application to connected computers in a LAN.Will I use the winsock control?How can I run queries using a server database?Any answers are welcome.
View 3 RepliesCan someone please help me create a very very simplistic sample page as the chat page included is too coomplete. something as simple as detecting a change in the database and displaying the word "change" on screen in realtime for any client connected.and I tried creating a global.asax file into which I added in the line mentioned in the link above, but it does not seem to like the word "Setup" in the line [code]
View 2 RepliesOn my program I am trying to make a ToolStripStatusLabel's text change to "connected" if connected to a network and if not connected to a network change the text to " Not Connected" then I don't know how to display a image if connected to a network or not connected. So if the computer is connected to a network I have a image that I would like to be displayed next to the ToolStripStatusLabel. And if not connected to a network, can the program display a different image? I tried this:
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=True(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Connected")
My.Computer.Network.IsAvailable=False(ToolStripStatusLabel2.Text "Not Connected")
I am trying to find out if the connection of my sockets (TCPClient) is connected or not connected. I am using the following code:
[Code]...
Im using the code from [URL] as a starter, most of the code is the same. the chat system works fine but on the client a added a disconnect button "clientSocket.Close()" and as soon as i click that i get errors, on the client, this is the code...
Private Sub getMessage()
For infiniteCounter = 1 To 2
[CODE]...
And this line...
serverStream.Read(inStream, 0, buffSize)
gives me "Unable to read data from the transport connection: A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall."
Now im talking the server, after the client clicks disconnect or closes by task manager, looses connection, etc the server crashes and gives me.
this is probably easier than I think it is.I would like a client-to-client messenging system without using Winsock if possible. At the moment an IP based connection system would be okay.
View 8 Replieshow to create a client/server... But I couldn't... I don't want anything fancy. Just want the client to send the server 4 numbers, depending on the user's choice; after that, the server would turn off the pc, restart it, etc. It all depends on the number received. Is there a rather "simple" way to do it? If it's not to much trouble you could use Atheist's example. (Btw I don't understand the code and, yes, I've checked on [URL])
View 9 RepliesWe are creating a Who wants to be a millionaire style game in VB. Our server is pulling information such as questions and answers from a Access Database and sending them to the contestants (Clients). All transfer of information is directly from the server to each client. One of the "Life Lines" we want to use is "Ask a friend", where one client is able to Instant message another client for a short time to get help on the question.

Ok so i'm particularly new to this, just wondering. I have a combobox on a form, I have an array set up so the items in the combobox have values. The problem is I need to send the values from the combobox to a textbox from a different form. So basically how can I connect a combobox to multiple forms.
View 6 RepliesUsing this example here, do you think it would be possible to develop it to show who is connected to the server?
View 10 Repliesi have been working on a chat program Server side and client side i have most of the features i was asked to put in but then once i got most of the bugs out i noticed something the server admin could send whispers and alerts to single users but then when you try do do it on the client side it wont work so i looked through it all and found my issue the user list on the client is only a list of the names in server hash table so i was wondering how do i send the hashtable and all of its data E.G. user connection information to the client so that it can send commands to individual users like the server side can
vb
Public clients As New Hashtable()
' This subroutine checks to see if username already exists in the clients
' Hashtable. If it does, send a REFUSE message, otherwise confirm with a JOIN.
[code]....
i tried to send the hashtable over the same method used to send the user names to the client but it cannot convert the hashtable to a string so that wont work so my question is How do i send the hash table to the user from the server then display the username on the client ??
i just want to ask about on how to check if i am successfully connected in ms sql 2008 in vb.net silverlight.
View 1 RepliesI have a system that can add, edit, delete and search data that is in ms access. That ms access is connected to my vb 2008. I'm upgrading my system so that it can print the access file.

View 4 RepliesI'm planning to make multiple projects, which could connect (or comminicate) together. It's like a designing Network Program. There'll be a main program and some sub programs. These sub programs will send the informations about other computers which is on my network to the main program. If you ask "Why do you need to get infos about other computers?" ,then let me explain. I'm using limited internet connection and I'm not the only one who's using this wireless network. If I get over the limit, I'm paying some limit-upper fee. So, I've to control others internet usage to not to get over the limit. I've just made a small download counter program for my pc, but as I said, I want to convert it to a bigger project, with network solution. Could anyone refer me any resource, or show me any starting point?

View 2 RepliesI'm not sure if this would be this right place to post this, or even if I should go about trying to do it through my program itself or through the computer's settings on the final EXE file, but anyways, here goes.
I have a synchronization program that syncs my flashdrive to my home computer and (hopefully) my flashdrive to my personal folder on the school computers. What I think would be easiest, though, would be if the program was located on the flashdrive, and would simply "autorun" when I plug it in, instead of having 2 separate instances of the sync program running at school and at home.
Would it be easier (or possible) to code for that from within the program, or with the EXE file's settings?
I have been reading through Atheists posts in regards to client-server and TCP client/server connection's. But how do i go about writing a program with 1 client and server where the client side creates a text file.Once the server sees there is a text file it connects and downloads it to itself or the client pushes the text file to the server.Once on the server i will read the text file and put its info into a sql db.
View 14 RepliesI have an application that takes a series of reports and sends them as attachments in an email to a specified group of email accounts.
When I run the Java version of this using apache commons and the same setting, the email is sent. However, when I run the VB.NET version of the code, it fails on my local machine and on the client machine.
I have a VB.NET web application running on a server that uses similar code. I tried that code locally and it fails. Yet, the web application is working perfectly.
Why is it that the Java application can send the email, but the .NET application cannot?[code]....
I'm dabbling with writing a client/server app using sockets, for the first time. I've found some example code for a chat application which gives me some pointers, and I've got that working, but now I am trying to refactor the basic code (the example is all in embedded in forms) into classes but I'm running into difficulties. Basically I want a server application to listen for inbound messages with a general Listener object which will parse the message (which will include a reference so I can work out the address of the computer sending the message).
When a request comes in from a new computer it will create a new object containing (amongst other things) a new TCP connection back to the client for managing and returning messages.The problem is I'm getting the message "The operation is not allowed on non-connected sockets" in my refactored code.The original code (on a form with a single listbox and a background worker) looks liks this :
Imports System.Text
Imports System.Net.Sockets
Public Class Server
[code]....
I get the error on last line of code of the OnConnect procedure when my client application tries to connect. Now I know this worked fine with the original code but my new version of the code fails to set up the connection. I have removed the "background worker" stuff because as far as I can tell all it is doing is updating the display which I don't need to do.
I have a PaintEventHandler connected to a picturebox via AddHandler.
In PaintEventHandler I have coded this for writing the drawing to PictureBox1.Image:
Dim PictureBox1 As PictureBox = CType(sender, PictureBox)
PictureBox1.Image = New Bitmap(PictureBox1.Width, PictureBox1.Height)
Dim bmp As Image = PictureBox1.Image
Dim g As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp)
... drawing something ...
PictureBox1.Image = bmp
Everything works fine but after running through the paint event handler and showing the picture on the screen it calls the painthandler again and again. It does not stop.
Replacing the code above with
Dim g As Graphics = e.Graphics
Makes it running. But then I cant save the Image to a file.
How do you share files from one computer to another that are connected in one wireless internet connection? I mean, it's possible using shared folders this means it could be possible in vb.net too..
