I've been searching about how to list and remove or create all list of the ports forwarded on the current machine. So I can allow my app to create a port to allow the "chat". Wondering how this is possible. I saw many samples on net, tested most of them and none worked properly. Is there a possible way to edit ports with visual basic 08 or 11?

View 2 RepliesI am working on an application on serial port communication with PLC machine. Now this communication is only done with one PLC at a time. So I m sending a query to PLC and until its responds back the application goes into wait mode. i.e. no other operations can be done, and an hourglass cursor should be displayed with all other components locked on the form. So how do I achieve this using vb.net?

View 1 RepliesI have created an application using VB 2008 Express on an XP machine. I created a deployment package and installed it on other XP machines with no problems. I tried it on a Vista machine and all seemed well until performing a serial port function. It simply halts/locks up. I have to close it in task mangler. I thought I would circumvent the problem by building and publishing it on the Vista machine. While running the program from VB express the program functions perfectly on that Vista machine, but when I publish and install it on same it still crashes at the serial portion of the program.

I am using vb2008. I am creating a port listener. When I test the listener I get an exception in the code as shown below.I send one record through ("Hello") . When it tries to read again I get the error. This read would result in EOF. When this happens, shouldn't i go to 0? Instead it keeps its previous value of 5 which is the number of characters in "Hello"

how to create a new .exe from my application. Basically I have a form with a textbox and a create button, when I hit create I want to create a new .exe with, well whatever code I want for example MsgBox(text1.text). So when I run the new .exe I get just the message box with the text from the previous application.

I'm setting up a simple "machine status" page to monitor a server. I want to display the Drives on the machine, including mapped network drives and show their free space, etc.
I'm using System.IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives() to return a collection of DriveInfo objects. I then itterate that collection to display the relevant information.
The issue I'm having is that only local drives appear. (A:, C: and D:) No mapped drives "Network Locations" appear in the collection.
I'm thinking it has to do with the user account that's executing the code (if that makes any sense). So if the code is executing under the user "ASPNET" (or whatever it is) the drives would have to be mapped under that user. As it happens, I have the server set up like a workstation and it logs in automatically under the user with the mapped drives.
What I've done:
- I have set the Web Site's Anonymous Authentication user to that same user
- I have set the Identity of the Application Pool to which my web site is assigned to be that same user.
I'm using the 2.0 framework to get a list of queues from a remote machine. Sometimes the machine has a firewall and then the user has to wait 80 seconds or so before an exception is thrown stating that the machine is unavailable. Questions: Is there any way that I can set/change the timeout for GetPrivateQueues ByMachine? Is there any other method I can call before running GetPrivateQueuesByMachine to see whether the machine is responding? One that has configurable timeout, Any other solution?

View 6 RepliesI have 2 linked DB tables, Artists and Albums using ArtistID as the primary/foreign key.When I want to add a new Album, I have a new form open and I can fill a combobox with the list of Artists to choose from and edit all the details then save to the database.
However, when I want to edit the Album info, I can't seem to get the Artist associated with the Album, as well as all the rest of the Artists from that table, (in case I need to change the Artist associated with the Album).The information required comes from 2 linked tables, so that's where I'm getting lost.An example of this is when a person edits their profile on a webpage, for instance, a list of countries is usually listed in a combobox and the one selected is the country they selected when filling out the form previously, however, they still have the option to change it.
I have a button inside a one of my forms which contain a lot of coding and normally a lot of variables declaration.
Is there is a option/add-on that I can use/set that enable me to display all the variable used inside the sub or function I am currently working in?
All I can find is add-on to display the Properties/Methods and only Public variables inside the form or inside the class. but I need to list the local variables also.

I wrote a Log class that details the exception, including the method name and its arguments list,but I couldn't find any way to programmaticly retrieve the arguments values.in some forums it was said that its impossible mission. I find it very odd.my arguments list looks like:

I would like to know how I can get the list of possible choices to Intellisense for my class object, like it does with MsgBox.For example, when creating a message box you type MsgBox "Test Message Text", vbYesNo, "Test Message Title".In typing that, when you type the comma just before the vbYesNo, it gives you the possible selections for button types in a drop down list: i.e., vbYesNo, vbOKOnly, etc.I have a class called clsKeyState. what it does is turn on/off/toggle key states, such as CAPS LOCK, SCROLL LOCK, NUM LOCK, etc... I have set my property for it as Get/Let "State". When I call it to set a key to on/off I will be doing it like this: KeyState.State WhichKey, On/Off/Toggle.I would like the WhichKey part to automatically display all the possible selections that I define, such as CapsLock, NumLock, Scroll Lock; and I want the On/Off/Toggle to display those specific items also (On, Off, Toggle). I will be using the ability to create these displayable options for many more things in my project than just this one simple class.
