I would expect to see the path.Path include the new record, however, I also notice that tempnextgen also include the new record. Can anyone help me out on this issue? Why the tempnextgen got updated as well, how to prevent this unexpected operation?
I will start off here by asking the question. How do I make the data from a database be bound to my project? I keep trying to add a new data source so that I can drag and drop things to my form, but I am unable to. I follow the steps, choosing an OLE DB, the file's location (D:Data Connected Applicationsfile name) The conecting string looks like: Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source="D:Data Connected ApplicationsItem_Database_A.accdb". I choose the objects that I want (In this case, the entire tables option) and then it returns a message to me stating that: An error occurred while creating the new data source: Could not get information for 'WindowsApplication1.Item_Database_A.accdbDataSet3'

I am trying to update a table using LinQ. Though records are getting inserted, for some reason they are not getting updated.what can be possible problem

If this is a stupid question, then let me know. I can't just figure it out.First of all, this is my question. How do I detect the changed value on those text boxes?I have an idea that I create a another string values that have the original values and compare them right before saving or form closing event. This sample just have 3 text boxes, but I have 50 + text boxes on my one form. I can do it that way, but that is not really smart idea.Can I use abcDB.SubmitChanges() to detect any data changes on text boxes?
Dim sqlQuery = (From obj in abcDB.HelloWorld
Select obj.Fname, obj.Lname, obj.PhoneNumber).FirstOrDefault()
me.textboxFname.text = sqlQuery.Fname

I would like to know the best, or standard, way to accomplish real-time client updates in a small multi-user application using an access data table as a data source.Specifically, this application will be used by 3-4 people. It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:
1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.
2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.
I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.
1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?
2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I am using this method successfully now to check for changes to a text file in another application, and I know how to implement it?

I have written a VB 2008 Standard Edition program using a SQL 2008 Epress database in my development environment. When I point my program to the production SQL 2000 database it blows up. With the following error:
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
GentranDataSet.Document_tb.Fill,GetData () could not be previewed.
The text, ntext, and image data types cannot be compared or sorted, except when using IS NULL or LIKE operator.

OK Help

The tables are "exactly" the same in the two databases... I think.
I have done some reading and wonder if this could be a unicode and non-unicode issue. Is 2000 non-unicode and 2008 unicode?
Can I "refresh" my data enviroment without having to re-create all my data objects in my VB code?
I got a problem in showing report. The system flows like below -Systems insert records in CSV file into a table,A in ms access database by batch.Systems update in another table, B, based on these inserted records.

View 8 RepliesWhat I have managed to do is currently display a chart with 3 bars on it linked to textboxes what have numerical values in them when the form is loaded. i.e TextBox1 has an initial value set in it's properties of 10, TextBox2 has a value of 20, TextBox3 has a value of 30.
When I run the program the graph displays these values correctly.
I have also got a button, Button1 which when pressed will plot the chart again, (so if I manually change the values in the TextBoxes after the form has loaded), it will display the new values via the bars.
The problem I have is that if if once the initial values have been plotted when the form loads, i.e. 10, 20 & 30, the Y axis of the chart has a maximum value of 35, so that all the initial values for the bars are shown. But if I change the values to say 15, 30, 80. and then press Button1 to update that bars to thier new values, the bars change but the one that show's 80 can not been seen fully as it goes off the chart, as the Y axis still only shows a maximum value of 35!
Does anyone know how to get the chart to resize to be able to display all the bar values within the chart each time the values are changed and the Button1 is pressed, whether it be reducing the graph for smaller values or enlarging the chart for higher values?
I am not 100% sure I am going about it in the correct way as I have not got any experience in using charts and am having to stuble about the net trying to find basic example code of how to setup and use a chart
My code so far is:

I have an issue with a data table that I have updated using the datatable.update command.The datatable is bound to the datagridview using dgv.datasource = datatable.I have used INSERT and UPDATE commands and the INSERT command writes the data back to the database ok. However my problem is that it the dgv is not updated with the primary key (ID field) from the database. So when I save a second time, instead of updating it just inserts the data again.

View 3 RepliesI have a DataTable that's constantly being updated with new data from my database via a timer. That data is eventually reformatted and displayed in a DataGridView control.In an effort to prevent the DataGridView from completely refreshing from re-databinding (thus, clearing out selections, resetting scrollbars, defaulting sorting settings, and making the gridview flash as it reupdates), I'm simply removing old rows from the datagrid that no longer exist in the DataTable, and adding new rows to the datagrid that appear in the DataTable since the last update.
For the sake of simplicity, we'll call DataGridView the LEFT table, and DataTable the RIGHT table I'm looking for a way to go through both tables (LEFT and RIGHT), and remove old rows that are no longer in RIGHT and delete them from LEFT. And look for new items in RIGHT and add them to LEFT. Each table has a column called "RecID" containing a unique id for each entry that can be used for comparison. is there a way to do this all in one loop? What I'm looking for, in pseudo code:
<loop through everything>
if RecID does not exist in LEFT but exists in RIGHT
add new item to LEFT
if RecID does exist in LEFT but does not exist in RIGHT

View 3 RepliesI have an Access database that is updated directly in Access. I'm trying to write a program to 'monitor' the database, and have a DataGridView control showing the contents. When the program is first started, it shows the current data in the DB fine, however, I've been unable to get it to refresh with any updated data from the mdb file. I have a timer running on 5 second intervals, and if i clear the dataset, the DataGridView refreshes to empty.

I am getting an incorrect repsonse after an update to a table. In my RowUpdating event I have the following code which builds an Update Parameter to call an SP to update a table. I must be doing something wrong but everything runs fine. My rowsAffected variable reports 1 after the update, but the table never gets the data.[code]I found a solution that is working. On the original DataSource for the update command I needed to add the following.[code]This in essence allows the original data source to call the SP. Note: that the command type needs to stay as TEXT not Stored Procedure as one might think.
View 3 RepliesI want to work on a project I have in mind and this envolves saving data which would need to be updated every time the user exits the program. I suppose I need to know how to save a file to a blank text document, and how to get the application to read the information when it is called for. I believe I need to set delimiters or such, the helpfile is useful, but limited and some information is not listed at all.
View 7 Repliessince I still use VB6 and the code is in VB8, I can't find the solution.The sub below is executed in a button's click event, and is supposed to save data to his database. It seems to work fine : you can add persons (in a separate form), and see them appear in the datagrid. You can stop the program, go back to the VB editor, and run it again (without rebuild), and the previously added persons will still be visible in the datagrid. But...If you add some persons, then go to the editor and force a rebuild (for example by adding more code), and than run the code again, the the previously added persons are gone (nomore visible in datagrid)!To me, it seems that the problem is to effectively update the database. I have searched on the internet about this topic, and I read that you must "set" the UpdateCommand.

I'm trying to do a LINQ Query against a typed datatable that will return me duplicated data.With out going into too much detail, here's the basic setup:
strCode1 - string type
intCode1 - int32 type
intAdjustor - int32
There are more fields but these are the ones that are important.I'm going to do my best to describe this, as it's kind of confusing.In theory intCode1 is a key for strCode1 (hence the names). So each time intCode1 is duplicated, the same strCode1 should appear. Example:
[code]...
Ultimately I'd like to get a List(Of T) - where T is my typed data row. In SQL, I would simply use a sub query, to get a distinct list of strCode1 and intCode1, then do a count, grouped by strCode1 where I get more than one row.I'm not sure how to translate that into LINQ, AND get the original types data rows returned in a list.
The coding that I have a problem with might make people think that I am creating some malware. So the project I am doing is associated with iTunes. iTunes allows people to have one library. There is another way, but it is very confusing to some people, and very unreliable. So my project is that I will allow people to have multiple iTunes libraries on one computer. So the problem is this. In order to have an option to choose your library, I gotta make sure that iTunes is not running.
So this is the script:
Private Sub CheckAndCloseiTunes()
retry:
'Custom class that includes the function to safely close iTunes
Dim Processes As Process() = Process.GetProcessesByName("iTunes")
[CODE]...
So when I use the Threading.Thread.Sleep(2000) code, the form becomes unresponsive.
I've updated my database...
And all the information goes in fine, and an Auto-Number is allocated.
Do I need to re-read the database to find & display this auto-number?
Where do I begin?
i can't find any wrong, if record exists then updated the record but only can insert the new record.
cannot updated the record.why?
