VS 2008 ExtendedDateTimePicker (QSS Components) - Crashes VS2008

Jan 28, 2010

I have an ExtendedDateTimePicker control on my form. When I attempt to change the "ShowCheckBox" property to true, VS2008 stops responding and eventually exits the application; losing any unsaved changes.

I then tried to changed the property in code and the same result.

I want the control's value to be blank when it initializes.

VS2008 Crashes Reliably At The End Of A Solution Rebuild?

Mar 30, 2009

VS2008 SP1, Winforms solution, VB.NET, compiling for x86 and .NET v2 I have about a dozen projects in the solution, with a couple of Windows forms projects and some class libraries. If I rebuild the solution, it clears out and recompiles all the projects, as you'd expect... and then disappears without trace or error message. Since I'm reconnecting to VSS 2005 over HTTP across the internet, it takes all month to start back up with everything loaded, so it's incredibly irritating. The compiled application itself works fine, and normal build and run after changes also works fine.

EDIT: Just to clarify, No add-ins except Refactor! (I know, I guess I ought to try uninstalling it to see if it's that, but it's just too useful! - I will see if there's an update though). And no custom build steps. It's just a vanilla Winforms app, with references between the projects (and some references to COM dlls for interop).

User Control Components In Toolbox, VS2008

Feb 21, 2010

I am building an application in VS2008 (VB.NET) that contains several user controls. When I was developing under VS2005, all the components in my application would load into the toolbox so I could access them during design.

Since upgrading to VS2008, however, those application-based components do not load, and I cannot access the user controls I have built.

1. Exit Visual Studio

2. Navigate to %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMicrosoftVisualStudio9.0

3. Delete the TBD files found there (these are hidden by default)

4. Re-start Visual Studio and open your WPF application - the toolbox will now be reinitialized

and that worked for one session, but it did not get preserved -- when I shut down and came back into VB.NET, the application-based controls no longer loaded.

Is there some setting in VS2008 that I am missing? Or is there another step to getting the app-based controls to reappear each time I load the development files?

VS 2008 App Crashes Instantly On Some PCs?

I've been writing an application that gathers various details from a PC and writes the info to an SQL database. This is logged in the event log every time the user tries to run the program:

VS 2008 Adding Additional Components?

Dec 13, 2009

I need to make a custom control and decided, before that, to see if there were any additional components that I could utilize. When looking through the list, I found a component called an Expander. So I decided to add it and see how it works.

After adding it, I couldn't find it at all within the toolbox. I went back to Choose Items and it was checked, but still not in the toolbox. It's probably important to note that it is a WPF component and this is not a WPF Project. Would that make a difference? Is there something else I may be doing wrong?

32 Bit Application Crashes When Exiting On Windows 2008 64 Bit

Jan 4, 2011

We have an application that works well on XP/Pro, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2008 Server (32 bit) but is problematic on Windows 2008 Server (64 bit). The application uses an unsigned activeX control which may or may not be related to the problem. To install we need to add the program name and regsvr32 as DEP exceptions. Once that is done the application installs correctly and operates normally except when the application closes.

If a user clicks the 'exit' button our code basically says 'unload me' (where me = the main form of the application) and there is no code in the form_unload section of the program.

Everything works well on every Windows platform except Win 2008 64 bit where we get

APPCRASH
Application Name: PDFPrint.exe
Application Version: 10.10.0.18
Application Timestamp: 4d238253

[Code].....

After we continue to close the program we see a message box with run time error 216 at 00002B24 message.

VS 2008 Referencing New Office 2007 Components To Use On Office 2003 Machines?

Nov 10, 2009

We have currently upgraded our development machines to Windows 7 and Office 2007. We have a vb 2008 app that references 2003 Office components to use for mail-merging to word.We loaded up our app in the vb environment today and were instantly greeted with missing components/functions which are related to the 2003 Office components. We can update these to use the Office 2007 components/functions instead, however we are unsure whether after doing this our vb app will work with machines only with Office 2003 on. can machines with Office 2003 on work with our vb app that references Office 2007 components?

VS 2008 Will Not Need To Update Each Component Variable Of Products List When Components List Changes

Sep 21, 2010

I think (?) this is about object design, and perhaps about structural and/or creational patterns. But a bit hard to say when I only know a couple of patterns yet.[code]But... what if we INSTEAD want each Product instance only to (in some way) refer to one instance of a specific list of Components. So we wan't to save the products list to one file, and the components list to another file. Then would I build the objects the same way, or different? So let's then say we have now Class B as below. [code]

1. Will not need to update each component variable of the products list when the components list changes.

2. If the Product object shall be shown in a DataGridView, for editing properties, it seems easier to implement the selection of the component property.

Is this wrong approach? Is it suitable in some cases, and if so, when? Are there other solutions I perhaps am not aware of that would be appropriate? Is this about structural design patterns? and if so, can the alternatives above be catagorized to some pattern type? I don't really know exactly what I'm looking for.. But I think probably I'm looking to understand whether the object design will be determined by the way the objects are saved.. And if i shall save the objects by serializing to file, vs saving to a database, would I create the business objects differently?

App Crashes Without Error

After a recent Windows 2003 update, when the app crashes it no longer pops up the message, writes to any log or appears in the event viewer so I have no idea now why it's crashing. .net - Program Crashes With No Errors?

Apr 25, 2011

I am using VB.NET Framework 3.5 . I have a very complicated program with over 40 forms and 100s of lines of coding. Earlier today, this program worked perfectly. I decided to change the Assembly Name from APA to Salamander. I do not get any errors and things seem to be going fine. Upon the next debug, the splash screen loads fine. (I am using a timer to proceed to the main form, not the inbuilt splash screen setting as I found it to be more reliable). However, when the main form loads, none of the pictures (resources) load and it exits itself immediately yet no errors appear at all. I think it might be to do with the .resources file but I really don't know. As I only started Visual Basic less than two months ago I'm not sure what all the files other than .vb files actually are.I really don't want to have to completely rebuild the program as my release date is in five days and as I am still at school I don't have time to complete it on top of homework. I have tried changing the assembly name back to APA again but it still does not work. I am completely stumped.
