Working with a form that has a menu, toolstrip and Crystal Viewer control. I cannot seem to get the viewer to maximize properly without hiding the toolbar of the Crystal Control behind the menu and toolstrip. I've played with the options of Dock and Alignment, as well as autosize and I just can't get it to work.So do I need to handle the sizing myself to do this and position the control where I need it?

View 7 RepliesSo currently i have been working on a application that is a MDI parent, with child forms. I use a un docked toolstrip as a toolbox since i like the small icons and mouse hover, but one issue that bugs me is that when a child form is open in the parent form it's "under" the toolstrip. For example moving childform1 pass the toolstrip menu makes the form go under rather ontop. Is there anyway to give the child forms foreground when moving?
View 3 RepliesI really want to make use of the toolstrip and databinding but these two technologies keep conflicting with each other. I think the root cause is something to with the fact that the toolstrip buttons don't recieve focus in the normal way.
I invite you to try the following:-
1. Create a form and put some text boxes a tool strip with a save button on it.
2. Write a query or sproc to get a datatable back and bind your text boxes to the field in the datatable.
3. In the code behind your Save ToolStripButton put some code that makes an arbitrary change to a field on the dataset (it doesn't matter whther this field is bound to a text box or not). eg:-
m_DataTable.Rows(0).Item("CommissionRatePerc") = "0.0000"
4. Put a breakpoint in the save and run the form.
5. Make some changes in the text boxes. Do not leave the last text box but rather click save while a text box whose contents you have edited still has focus.
6. When your code hits the breakpoint, query the value of the data table field that is bound to the text box you were editing when you clicked save - it will still contain the unedited value. Unless you do something about it that unedited value is going to get saved back to your DB.
We did get around this problem by explicetely setting the focus to another control on the form before saving. That worked most of the time because it prompts the text box to flush it's value back to the datatable (nb EndEdit does not work, although you'd have expected it to). However, and this is the reason I suggested you add a line of code that changed a value in the underlying datatable in step 3, if you change a value in code in this way before the value from the text box get's flushed back then it doesn't seem to matter what you do, the user's current edit is simply lost. They will still show in the text box, though, leading your user to believe that the change has been committed when it hasn't. Our final solution is that we never ever change a value in the adtaset in the code behind our toolstrip buttons. That's working but it's a pretty big restriction.
Am devloping an application with multiple forms, which reside on top of a main form. i.e the main application window. The 'child' forms do not need to be linked in any way as they do not pass information to the parent form, as all the parent form does is act as main window.Now I would like to know what is the correct way for the 'main window' form acting as a container for the other forms? So that all the smaller secondary forms stay focused on top of the main application form, that when the main window is minimized, so these forms should do also etc..
I have read other posts and they mention, leaving all the forms standard i.e. IsMdiContainer = False and then using form.showDialog() to call the secondary forms. This did not work for me as what happens is that as soon as I give focus to the main app form, the secondary form disappears underneath.I tired making the main app form IsMdiContainer = True and when it loads calling:
frmMemberForm.MdiParent = Me
Now this works, because I can click off the form and minimize the app etc and the frmMemberForm doesn't disappear. However if i close the MemberForm and reopen it, it looses this property and once again when it looses focus, it will disappear.

View 3 RepliesI need to display a toolstrip directly beneath a menustrip in my application, but setting RenderMode = Professional for each does not give identical results. They both show a background gradient, but not the same one.
Is there some way to use menustrip rendering for the toolstrip, or vice versa? Or can someone advise how best to implement a gradient myself, that I can perform in a sub-classed renderer?
There's just one more issue -- if I base my custom renderer on the ToolStripProfessionalRenderer and override OnRenderToolstripBackground, I still get curved right-hand corners on my ToolStrip but not on my MenuStrip. Is there some internal logic that provides a different Region for filling by the background renderer? I've turned off (overridden with a do-nothing function) the border renderer.
I have an older VB6 program that uses a MDI sheet. this program was upgraded to VB.net. I can not get a new Windows Form to use the MDI Container. the new sheet lays over the top of the MDI sheet.

The application user would enter a number of shapes (variable), and other parameters for the shapes as location, color,etc. After this I need to display these shapes in the screen. When i run this set of codes, system keep telling me that same form cannot be both mdichild and mdiparent, however, I never set my child form as a parent.

I usually use table-layout-panel container in windows form to enable formre-sizing. But I've got too many label boxes and text boxes in a form to to fit in normal resolution. So I am in need of a similar container which is bothscroll-ableandre-sizable. Can someone tell me how it can be done using table-layout-panel container. I have the need to maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio on a Video control on a form. The forms (there could be up to 16 in a 4x4 layout) should all maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio when resized depending on clients monitor/resolution. The forms have a border and will keep them. I'm trying to set up a data entry form using my own toolbar as a navigator. I am able tor retrieve the data fine, but I'm having trouble with the record navigation. I'm tring to use the movefirst/last/previous/next methods of a bindingsource to move from record to record, but it's not working. The code is below. I drag a toolstrip component to my form. I insert two buttons n two separators. During i configure these items, some time it will disappear but in the properties side, i still can found these items still exists. But i can't found these component in my form. I tried to add same item with same name n it show a error message box(because already exist).

View 5 RepliesNot really sure what's going on here, but basically I got a new Component/Addon for my Windows Forms. I go and reference it to the Toolbar, which it accepts, and the 3 new components pop up on the screen, all fine and dandy.However, I go and press OK to add them to a group, and nothing happens. They aren't added. So, I try again, same thing. Thinking it could be a bug with the new Component, I make a new group and try to add a built in item to it, and to my surprise, nothing happens as well.

Step to recreate the problem.
Create a new Windows Application for Visual Basic (WinForms).
Add a ToolStrip.
Add a ToolStripComboBox to the ToolStrip.
Save, note the width of the combo box.
Change the padding on the combo pax to 2.
Save and close the form designer.
Reopen the form designer, look at combo box width - it decreased. Note that form is marked as having been modified. So save it and close the designer again. Reopen the designer and look at the combo box width - it will have shrunk every time you save, close, and reopen until you get to a 0 width. It shrinks by 4 * the padding size. Why would padding affect the size since that is the interior margin where as the margin settings are the exterior margins.
I have a toolstrip on a winforms application and below it a DataGridView. Everything looks fine when the program runs initially. If I maximize the form though, the DataGridView covers part of the toolstrip. How can I make the toolstrip lock in place so that nothing will overlap it?
