View 9 RepliesSo I pretty much built the game, that was the easy part. I am having trouble entering a name on my first form(startup) and keeping track of the score on second form(game) and displaying it both combined on the first page with the current users score. Also the way it set up now if you are running the game for the first time it says can't find LowScores.Text. Start Up

View 2 RepliesThis sub moves a rectangle to the center of the form and when it gets there it moves back to its original location. But something weird has happened and the rectangle still moves, but the boolean values dont change. I tested to see if that part of the code was executed by putting a messagebox where the boolean values are supposed to change and the messagebox didnt appear.
Here is the sub:
Public Sub Start()
Dim Energy As New PictureBox
_IsMoving = True 'here is the boolean values along with some other variables

Say I wanted to show Form1 by pressing ctrl+h ingame it would show and when i press it again it would hide. but when it shows, it overlays the game.
View 6 RepliesI'm doing a game. I have a form I want to display the game scores on and another form I have that calculates the scores. How do I make variables work from the first form on the second?

What I am trying to accomplish is this: I want to be able to press the F5 key on my keyboard, while playing a PC game, to show (bring forward, focus, etc.) my program. My 3 attempts so far have failed. Any idea on how I could accomplish my goal? Similar posts on other forums say to set the form's key preview to true and use on keyPress... which failed.
View 1 RepliesSo I'm developing a game and it's a little heavy on some systems, so here's what I would like to do when the game opens (pseudo code):
Show Splashscreen
Load GameForm
When GameForm Is Completely Loaded
Splashscreen Close
Show GameForm
How is this done in actual VB code?

I know how to make a single picturebox, but I need to make more different pictureboxes. Example: I want to make a picturebox every time snake and food crash (I'm making snake with pictureboxes, yes). But for that, I need a code that will make a new picturebox with different name every time they crash. For example When they first crash, the code should make a picturebox called snakepart(1) next time they crash it should make snakepart(2). Something like that.
View 1 RepliesI've tried so many ways to get rid of picture boxes for my space invaders game, yet it's not working. The bullet hits the alien, the alien goes invisible (which it should) but it doesn't go to a new location or get disposed. And the bullet then intersects with it again but because it's invisible the user just see the bullet reset out of no where and the score gets added which it shouldn't.
Code:
If Bullet1.Bounds.IntersectsWith(AlienArray(0).Bounds) Or Bullet2.Bounds.IntersectsWith(AlienArray(0).Bounds) Or Bullet3.Bounds.IntersectsWith(AlienArray(0).Bounds) Or Bullet4.Bounds.IntersectsWith(AlienArray(0).Bounds) And AlienHitArray(0) = False Then
[code]....
So, basically my question is how do I remove aliens (pictureboxes) off the board or disabled the picture box in space invaders when they are hit. (my bullet collision works fine).
Trying to dynamically add Alien objects (Picture boxes) to my game form. The picture boxes are invisible when I run the game. All of the other controls for the picture box seen to work just fine. Movement, Alien Shots ,etc, etc. [code]

Redrawing rectangles on a Form? I have a problem repainting my form, I'm creating a "Bouncing block" Type of game , the Ball as a PicturBox, the Bar as A Picture Box And the Breakable "Targets" as An Array of Rectangles created in my forms Paint event using "e.Graphics.FillRectangles(Brush, rectsF)". It Looks a little like this:
Top of my Form(in the MainForm class):
Dim Brush As New SolidBrush(Color.Red)
Dim rectsF() As Rectangle

I am very much a beginner to VB.net and I'm still flicking through tutorials, learning basic stuff however I need to make a program fast and need help with it. I need to know how to make the form open a game save, whether that be for PC, Xbox or anything else.
View 3 RepliesI am having trouble with my code for Guess my number. I am definitely amatuer. Yes it is a homework assignment. No I am not asking you to do it for me. But I am stuck.Your GUI program is a game to be played by the user. See Screen Shot on Screen Shot Tab..A new employee is working on a classified mission and the program will randomly pick an expected profit to be guessed by the user. The program must randomly select an number within the range of 1 to 900.Do NOT use a 'Start Game' button to generate the rand number. Generate a rand number when the GUI is loaded.
1. Create a form that displays the rules of the game on a label.
2. Create a textbox for the user to input the guess and also a 'guess' button.
3. If the user is outside the given range, provide a proper message (<1 Is not a valid guess or >900 is not a valid guess)and clear the guess.
4. When a user has a valid guess, display a proper message (either too high or too low) and tell the user to guess again.
5. With a correct guess, display a proper message and change the form's background color to red and disable the guess textbox.
6. Create a reset button that allows the user to play the another game with a new random number.
7. Create a show me button that displays the number and does not generate another random number (allow the current game to continue).
8. Create a exit button to exit the program.
9. Ensure that you include error checking to prevent a user guess that is out of the given range and for any non-numeric characters.
10. Create a single Help menu item that launches a message box that displays valuable and meaningful information for the program and usage.
11. Create a label that tracks the guess count per game. Each time a new number is generated, start the guess count at 0.
12. Create a max guess limit set to 5 and use a progress bar to track the progress to approach the limit.
13. After each valid guess (1-900), clear the guess and update a label/textbox that displays all of the previous guesses up to 5 entries.
Here is my code so far. I have been working on one point at a time and then testing it. I have not even made it to numbers 11 - 13. I am not getting actual errors. Instead of my reset button clearing all fields at once I am having to click it more than once. Instead of displaying messages per scenario the message label is staying on either input a number or your number is too low. My Answer is not displaying when Show answer is clicked-perhaps my answer coding is wrong? [code]
I am currently investigating vb gaming and have set up a test project to move an object; it moves fine. The problem is that when it reaches the edge of the form it continues to move and eventually leaves the form entirely. So my question is how do i work out if my object has touched the edge of the form?
View 5 RepliesI'm writing a game in VB 2005 Express and at the moment it involves using the drawimage method to first draw a background and then various sprites onto my form every time a timer ticks. It's all double buffered so there's no flicker or anything but it just goes very slowly, how to speed it up. I've come across the term blitting (bitblt), which seems like it would be useful, but haven't been able to work out exactly what it is, whether it can be used in this version of vb, how to use it etc.
Here's my code (or at least an approximation of the relevant bits seeing as the whole thing is rather long):
Public Class Form1
Dim BackgroundImg as Image 'plus all of my sprite images declared
Dim Mybuffer As BufferedGraphics
Dim MyContext As BufferedGraphicsContext
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

I am writing a chat application quite similar to MSN and others alike, where you have a main window that can spawn several chat windows. So I have a chat class form (called frmChat) that I just instantiate whenever I need it, with the following code from the main form:[code]In this form I have a button labeled as 'End chat'. I would like not just to close the form, but actually to destroy its instance in order to dispose memory. I tried what would seemed to be to me the more direct and obvious way to do that (see below), but unfortunatelly VB syntax checker doesn't allow me to do that:[code]
View 3 RepliesHow do I put all my labels in my form in an array???
I have labels on my board game squares and I need them to be in an array.
I have created a game similar to plants vs. zombies or simply called a tower defense game. I have already completed it. but I have 1 big problem. and this is the game is very very lag / high delay. structures , explosions , enemies , projectiles are created using picturebox and declared it using an array and now to my question. Is there any way to minimize or to remove the lag or delay of the form?
