C# :: UserControl Have Its Own Icon On The Toolbox?

Jul 22, 2009

I made a control that inherits directly from ErrorProvider. I thought that applying it the ToolboxBitmap attribute would be enough to get my control to have the same icon on the toolbox as the original control has, but it doesn't. It's strange, as if I add the control to the form, it will appear just as it should, but it doesn't change the toolbox's icon. What am I missing here? I already restarted visual studio and it keeps this behavior.

[ToolboxBitmap(typeof(ErrorProvider))]
public class ErrorProviderEx : ErrorProvider {

.net - RaiseEvent From A UserControl That's Placed On A UserControl That's On A Form?

Jul 11, 2011

I have a Windows Form that contains a custom control container as a UserControl. For the sake of this question, this custom control container is called Dashboard. This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.

How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.

Asp.net - Reference TextBox In One UserControl From Another UserControl

Jan 19, 2011

I have two UserControls on a MasterPage. DataEntryUC contains several TextBoxes and DropDownList. NavSaveUC contains navigation buttons. When the user clicks on a navigation button, I will be saving the data entered into DataEntryUC from the NavSaveUC UserControl.

I have a couple of tables in my DB that contain stored procedure names, control names, control types, SqlDbTypes, etc.... that correlate with DataEntryUC.

How do I reference a text box that is on DataEntryUC from NavSaveUC?

I have been working on the following code from NavSaveUC with no luck.

Dim MyControlName = "txtFirstName"
Dim MyControlType = "TextBox"
Dim MyStringValue as String

Setting Usercontrol Properties Within A Usercontrol

Mar 22, 2012

I have a usercontrol that has a main form and calls another form within the usercontrol to get some data from a database that allows the user to select some items from a CheckedListBox control on the sub form. I want to pass the selected items from the CheckedListBox back to the main form and display the results there. I have a public property called DBList of type List(of String) on the main user control. If I create a reference to the usercontrol form the second form within the usercontrol I get a new instance of a user control. All I want to do is set the property on the usercontrol and close the secondary form. How do I reference the usercontrol from the form within the usercontrol?

VS 2008 UserControl Default Button?

Mar 19, 2009

I've been scouring the Net, but I can't find anything really useful on how to set a default button in a user control (everythings for ASP). I can imagine the brute force method of handling the keypress for each control within the control and checking to see if the Enter key was pressed, and if so, calling a PerformClick on my desired button... But I just have difficulty imagining that this will be the best method, especially on Search Controls that have 30-40 subControls on them. I've tried just handling the KeyPress event at the control level but it never gets called when a sub control has focus.

Another problem with the brute force method is that some of the controls within my UserControls are themselves UserControls containing several controls, so I would have to handle each sub control within the sub-user-controls and create EnterKeyPressed events that were raised when one of the sub-sub-controls received an Enter KeyPress. This could go on for several levels. Then I would need to handle all these events. This seems like an unnecessary layer of complexity.

Is there some way to create a routine that perhaps automates the above? Or just a simple workaround? I know I can set the Accept and Cancel Buttons of a form, but I have a form with a TabControl that has a UserControl on each tab. Each one of these tabs needs its own Default Button.

[2008] Usercontrol Rendering On Wrong Control?

Jan 18, 2009

I've built my first usercontrol for use in a GPS Mapping forms app.

pic1 shows "panel1" containing some picturebox "tools" with a map(another panel containing a picturebox) underneath.

Pic2 shows that I dragged the map and the "tool" have not moved with the drag.

"panel1" also contains my usercontrol( this will show a transparent map scale). My usercontrol and all the "tools" definately have the same parent - ie "panel1".

If I resize the form to cause a re-paint of all the controls I get Pic3 - the red T bar (my usercontrol) will be the map scale.

Everything looks OK until I drag the map - the user control goes with the drag. Pic4 shows that the usercontrol image has been erased as it passed under the "tools".

I don't understand why the "tools" stay put and on top of the map and the usercontrol does not - even though they all have the same parent.

VS 2008 32-bit UserControl In HTML Page Does Not Load On 64-bit Workstation

Sep 21, 2011

I built a specialized userControl using VB2008 (on XP 32-bit) to embed in HTML (not ASP!) and compiled it, pointing to x86 CPUs. I added the necessary keys to the registry (see attachment) to declare a classId in a HTML 'object' tag. This scheme works OK on all 32-bit OS I could put my hands on, but fails to load on 64-bit: I could test only on XP and Win 2003. No error message and Fiddler does not even know something happened... I installed VS2008 on the XP 64-bit machine and ported the code to a fresh userControl (to check the code). I got the userControl running on this workstation without any trouble. I copied this new DLL on another workstation and added the necessary keys to the register, but to no avail. I checked the registry and the 'Wow64' keys are there allright. As a check (and to provide you with a 'working' example), I:

- built a very simple userControl on the 32-bit environment (label, textbox and button to display the text in a mMessage box),
- on the 32-bit workstation:
+ copied the file to a 'program files' folder,

VS 2008 Create Custom DataGridView Cell From UserControl

Feb 16, 2011

Well, the title pretty much says it all. I have a user control that is a a collection of six label controls. three are used as visual color indicators, and the other three are used as the corresponding value for each color indicator. (It's sort of like a legend key on a chart or map.) I have created a custom class to store the three values, and the associated methods to interact with the values. (I can probably use a structure instead of a class, but right now, I don't want to discuss that.) My problem, is that I want to show my user control inside a cell of a DataGridView. I've looked at the examples that create a MaskedTextBox DataGridViewCell, but I can't seem to get it to work. Here is what I have:

[2008] TabControl On UserControl - Adding Tabs (Design-time)?

Dec 2, 2008

I have a TabControl on a UserControl. I want the UserControl to behave like a TabControl as usual (it contains only the TabControl and a Contextmenu), including Design-time behavior.I have spent the last two weeks finding out how to add the Design-time behavior and I think I have come a far way.The problem is with adding TabPages during Design-time (while the UserControl is a custom tabcontrol, it is using regular windows forms TabPages). In the Designer class, I have the following code to add a TabPage:

vb.net
Dim dh As IDesignerHost = DirectCast(GetService(GetType(IDesignerHost)), IDesignerHost) If dh IsNot Nothing Then Dim i As Integer = tc.SelectedIndex Dim name As String = GetNewTabName() Dim tab As TabPage = TryCast(dh.CreateComponent(GetType(TabPage), name), TabPage) tab.Text = name tc.Controls.Add(tab)

[code]....

So it would add the control to the TabPages collection if it was a TabPage, and use the regular routine otherwise.

(I'm now using 'tc.Controls.Add(tab)' again instead of 'tc.tabCtrl.TabPages.Add')

But, I don't think the designer even gets that far because it is telling me I cannot add TabPages to my usercontrol, because only TabControls can accept TabPages... How can I make my usercontrol understand that it is a TabControl (without Inheriting from a TabControl?)
