VS 2008 How To Debug "is Not A Valid Win32 Application" Error
Apr 15, 2010
I'm using the SDK that my laptop's touchpad manufacturer, Synaptics, provides in order to extend the touchpad's functionality. In the SDK, there's a file named SynCtrl.dll, which contains a few ActiveX controls.Based on what I learned from the samples provided in the SDK (which are VB 5 old and don't compile), I wrote this little application:
I am using Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition on an Acer Aspire 3810T running 64bit Windows Vista Home Premium (Intel GMA 4500). No matter what Code I write concerning DirectX, I get a White Form with a huge Red X when I run the PROGRAM. I also get the error: not a valid Win32 Application. This is the last Code I used:
I have a form in my VB>NET project (2010) with some ImageList. Those images are embedded in the list with a form resource in a .resx file asdata name="xxxx.ImageStream" mimetype="application/x-microsoft.net.object.binary.base64When I tried to build/run my project I get:
I have inherited a VB.NET project which was created in VS 2003 and is now in VS 2010. It works fine on one macine (32 bit). However, on my Win7 64 bit machine it simply won't build or run. I get an error saying "xxx is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1) Line 4762, position 5"
i have a problem with my code: [code] At the bold part, when i goto debug my program i get the error "Conversion from string "TrueFalse" to type 'Boolean' is not valid."
I have an application that is primarily developed on an x86 machine. I recently checked the app out of TFS onto a Win 7 x64 machine for development. However, every single form level resource file shows up in the error list with an entry like the following:
is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1) Line 127, position 5. C:Users...shortened...FormsfrmCustomer.resx Line 127 Column 5
What I find interesting is that my application level resource files aren't showing the same error. Plus, these are just XML files. They aren't applications in any way.
I'm currently working under VB2010 beta 2 on both machines. Obviously, with a bunch of errors, the app won't compile on the x64 machine.
I was scripting a very basic process manager, with a ListView component, and it was working fine for many days, up until now. Here is the code for getting processes:
Dim Process As New Process() Dim Count As Integer = 0 ListView1.Items.Clear()[code].....
The line of code where I put "*WIN32 EXCEPTION LINE* keeps running into an error(Win32 Exception was unhandled; Access is denied). Here is the full error description:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception was unhandled ErrorCode=-2147467259 Message=Access is denied[code]....
As I said before, this had been working for several days, up until now.
I was testing article [URL] to see if I could use this to populate a listview2 with the icons from Directory.GetFiles(apath) and getDirectories. If you go into c:windowssystem32 the program will hang for about 4 mins then if you go back to windows then back to system32 you will get the error.
win32 handle that was passed to icon is not valid or is the wrong type.
I want to update my database using formatsqlparam, but when I debug it, it has an error saying:"Incorrect syntax near ','."[code]I am missing some syntax, but I couldn't find where it is.
I develop windows applications in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2008. Recently I reloaded my pc and moved from XP to Windows 7 64 bit. Now when I am debugging, when I should get a runtime error, the executable instead locks up when it should bring up the code with the line that it crashed on like you'd expect in debug.
This doesn't happen all the time, only when I get a runtime error in a separate assembly that is not in the assembly I'm debugging. It used to work fine, but now it locks up. If I run the executable outside of Visual Studio (without debug) I at least get a runtime error like you'd hope for. I don't even get that when debugging.
I saw in a youtube video to get SQLserver 2005 management tool express, But I can't install it, I get an error saying "This is an invalid Win32 Application", Also, Do I need like a web hosting server? Or any kind of server?
I try to compile a project with msbuild.exe I have this error :
vbc : error BC30136: Error creating Win32 resources: Error reading icon '"Recycle Bin Empty.ico"' -- The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
This icon is the Application icon which is in the same directory of the project.vbc is started with /win32icon:"Recycle Bin Empty.ico" parameter.Don't know why MSBuild can't reach the file.
I've started a project in Expression Blend and has been working the codes in Visual Studio 2008. It was alright, no problem. I've worked heaps of projects like that before without any problems. However, out of nowhere, my WPF designer in VS2008 now gives me the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at MS.Internal.Package.VSIsolationProviderService.CreateIsolationProvider(String identity, AssemblyReferenceProvider assemblyReferences, IEnumerable'1 assemblyFolders) at MS.Internal.Providers.VSDesignerContext.GetIsolationProvider(IServiceProvider provider, [Code] .....
It displays the above instead of displaying the WPF designer. Also, I cannot Debug>Start Debugging the application anymore. I can still run/test/build it in Expression studio though. The funny thing is that if I restart a project in Expression blend, copy all the xaml codes, and copy all the vb .net codes from the original application, it works for some time, and then afterwards start giving me the same error at wpf designer in VS2008.
I have created player to stream(broadcast) a video from server to clinet in Lan network,my problem is when I send URL of the video to client it take it and add to playlist but when I want to play it message box show's "InvalidArgument value of 0 is not valid for selecteD Index parameter name:selectedIndexSystem.windows. form" I will but the code of client and server but the I have determine the video which will be broacast in client side. [Code]
I've created a service and ran it successfuly after a valid installation. however when i try to debug the service (not the OnStart function but a timer function i created) i get the following error: "cannot start service from the command line or a debugger.A windows service...").
The actions i made are (im using VS2005):
1. start the service 2. debug->start debugging 3. processes ->attach to process -> [select my service]-> attch
Visual Basic 2008 rookie question. I am getting the error message 'Error 1 The item "objDebugCIT163Lab1Cdrb.WeatherReport.resources" was specified more than once in the "Resources" parameter. Duplicate items are not supported by the "Resources" parameter.CIT163Lab1Cdrb'when I debug. I am familiar with Visual Studio 2008 having used it for my previous C# course. Zipped and attached the project below. I hadn't finished the coding, but this problem seems to be of a setup nature I should either resolve before I continue or start from scratch
Alright today im going to make a chat program in C++ and VB.net VB.net will be the server and C++ will be the chat room. Im doing this becuase some people dont have .net and the program fails so im trying this so then everyone can use it. How would i do this? Like C++ sending information to VB.net and printing it out on a textbox
Iam using GetKeyboardState API in my application for getting keyboard state . it was working fine for win32 applicati9on. When I moved to 64 bit application gets crahes without popping any exception message.my sample code is as given below:
Private Declare Sub keybd_event Lib "user32" (ByVal bVk As Byte, ByVal bScan As Byte, ByVal dwFlags As Integer, ByVal dwExtraInfo As Integer) Private Declare Function GetKeyboardState Lib "user32" (ByRef pbKeyState As Byte) As Integer
Well this question is related to use of Win32 API. I am trying to get text of a RichTextBox which is located in one of my text application. I am trying to use EM_GETTEXTEX message to collect the data.
I have an application that starts one of two external CAD applications depending upon the extension of a file in a ListView. I have been able to start up the application to view the file selected without a problem. I also have a seperate print click event for printing the file that opens the viewer application in the background and prints the file. This works perfectly for one of the CAD viewers but when I select a file that requires the other viewer application to print I get a Win32 exception and an error message stating that the file is not associated with any application and it cannot be opened. This of course is rediculous as it opens fine in the "View File" click event that opens the viewer to check the drawing.
One rather strange observation is that the CAD viewer that does print the associated file will launch the other CAD viewer application (that is associated with the other file extensions) when the "View" click event is handled even though I had not incuded the code to execute the process to start the viewer for that type of file. I realize this rather convoluted and may lie in the ProcessStartInfo arguments that I pass to the application.
Here's a code snippet:
Private Sub PrintFinGoods_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PrintFinGoods.Click Dim message As String = "No application is associated with file" Dim source_exception As New Exception
I am trying to write a small app that will read images from an database to an image list. It does the first one, but then after that i get a "Parameter is not valid." exception ... see code below.
vb Dim cn As New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Application.StartupPath & "states.qmw") Dim cm As New OleDb.OleDbCommand("Select * from tblStates", cn) Dim rd As OleDb.OleDbDataReader
I am getting this error in my VB.NET code. Anyone have ideas on what it could be or how to troubleshoot. I am using SQL Server 2008 and this error doesn't happen consistently. Looks like it happens completely randomly and doesn't seem to be originating from my code:
MESSAGE: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. at Microsoft.Win32.SafeNativeMethods.ReleaseSemaphore(SafeWaitHandle handle, Int32 releaseCount, Int32& previousCount)
I would like to add a .dll into my existing vb.net application. When i was inserting it through Project -> Add References, it showed an error msg: "This is not a valid assembly or COM component." What is my problem?
And I select one and it works! But when I try to select a different one it comes up with an error on..If ListView2.SelectedItems.Item(0).Text = "None" Then The error..InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'index'. Parameter name: index
What I am trying to achieve is if there is an error in cell 1 of the current row it returns to that cell. The code below tries to achieve that, but I get an error message thus:Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the SetCurrentCellAddressCore function.
Private Sub RoomPricingDGV_CellEnter(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles RoomPricingDGV.CellEnter If e.ColumnIndex = 2 And cellerror = True Then
I'm running into is some of the namespaces aren't being recognized. After searching the internet it seems I am supposed to have more than just System.Management.Instrumentation available to Import/Reference.However, that is all I can access.I need System. Management. ConnectionOptions and a few others, but don't know how to get these.Do I need to install the WMI SDK, or maybe the WMI Win32 Classes?
I would like to mix C++ Win32 DLL with VB in the same solution such as: [URL] It's just that I would like to reference the DLL with VB. In the example above:
Error embedding Win32 manifest: Manifest File 'C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727default.win32manifest' cannot be found.
Received with this code:
Public Class HelloWorld Private Sub DisplayHello_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DisplayHello.Click HelloWorldLabel.Text =
