The above code does not appear to be evaluating correctly, at all for that matter. The code block is being processed regardless of the HasRows state. Any idea whats going on? I'm assuming its a setting in the Web.config or VS Dev environment thats the behavior. If I change it to
If SQLDataReader.HasRows = True Then
everything evaluates correctly.

I made a copy of a VB application project, to make a copy of it for testing.
But when I debug the test copy while the orginal is still running (debugging from Visual Studio), focus changes to the original's main form, and the test copy does not run.
If I try to single step the test copy, same thing, focus changes to original, and test copy does not even step.

I have several VB.NET Windows Form applications connecting tp several Network databases. When I build, update and test my apps, I want them to connect to a testing database as opposed to connecting to the production databases when the app is released.Right now, I change a setting in my coding before releasing the app, but I would like this to be automatic, to prevent any testing data in the Production database and vice versa.I found this piece of coding on the web, but it doesn't seem to ever be in DEBUG mode and by DEBUG mode I mean when I click the "Start Debugging" button or the F5 key. i am using visual studio 2005 on win 7 with office 2007.i have developed win application. i am using microsoft activex spreadsheet component in my program. so it automatically creates reference to AxInterop.OWC11.dll But when i run program in debug mode (open program and click RUN in toolbar it works) it works. But if i run directly .exe (go to bin release doubleclick .exe) it gives error at loading point of that component. It says "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted." An unhandled exception occurrs.AxInterop.OWC11.dll is in release directory. Is this office 2007 error or Win 7 ?

I've been having a bit of a problem using the while function.
Here is my code (Simplified):
Dim RandomNumber3 As Random
Dim RandomOutput3 As Integer
[CODE]..............
When running the debug, the program crashes, and when I step into the program, I find that this While statement becomes an infinite loop. This is a program that uses random number generators to assign a value to something, and this while statement is necessary so that there is never two of the same values showing (RandomOutput, RandomOutput2 & RandomOutput) Have to be different to one another.

for some reason this works perfectly, when i do it in debug mode it adds the tasks to stagingtable, and then transfers none duplicates to the regular table. However, when i upload it to the server it does not work.
Using bcp As SqlBulkCopy = New SqlBulkCopy(connstring)
bcp.ColumnMappings.Add(0, 1)
bcp.ColumnMappings.Add(1, 2)

I'm getting the 403 Forbidden error while running a VS 2010 in debug mode. It gives me this error as it tries to read thru an XML File. See attachment. This is a web app and it's reading an XML file that retrieves the DB/Server information. It's not the Web.Config file but just a regular xml file. This file is read by every application in our system. Not sure why it suddenly started doing this. I've created the virtual directory on our IIS Server and set permissions on the C:inetpubwwwrootAppName directory of my C: drive where the app resides.

I have an app that runs silently everytime the user logs in. But I want to be able to pass it a parameter to make it print to the console. I use a conditional if statement to do this now, but I would have to recompile the project to set it to false or true.

I have a winform with a main panel that is anchored top, left; dock: fill, and set to a specific size to contain another panel of content that we want to scroll through. The other panel along with a few other controls are on the main panel. Now, for some reason, after running the application the controls will be shifted down (never horizontally) some random amount. Now, the "random amount" may in fact be the last position of the scroll bar or something, but either way, it is unintended functionality. I have resorted to automatically resetting the locations of these controls on the main form in the constructor?

I needed to make an application that calculates weekly pay of employees at an hourly rate. The overtime schema is that: hours less than or equal to cutoff1 are paid regular rate. hours over cutoff1 but not exceeding cutoff2 are paid 1.5 times regular rate. hours over cutoff2 are paid double time or 2 times regular rate. [Code] The employee must choose Category A, B or C depending on the amount they have worked. I am completly new to visual basic, I am not sure how to continue with my if and then statements. I must also create the application with 3 radio buttons, where the user clicks either Category a b or c and then buttons which say calculate and clear. [Code]

I need to use a select case statement that evaluates PostDiscountCost based on the value 0 to 999.99, 1000.00 to 1499.99, 1500.00 to 2499.99 and one that doesn't fall within the others. The message box's going to be triggered by the vbYes in the confirm exit message box. Im not asking anyone to do it for me, I just have no idea where to start it, if I need to declare anything else and if I'm on the right track. Code Attached.

I am writing a program to analyze error logs from an existing application, and I want to consider only lines that have a Date/time stamp at the beginning of each line.( in the format "03/13/08 08:03:58") I am extracting this as a string and want to evaluate it to make sure it is a valid date so I am using "IsDate(Mid$(TextArray(i), 1, 18))". The problem is that IsDate evaluates False even when the string I am passing should be valid (eg. 03/13/08 08:36:59).

Simple question that does not seem to be covered: If I use a lot of Debug.WriteLine statements in my code, will they be completely absent in my production version?
I mean: Is the compiler smart enough to not emit any code for those calls? Or would I have to surround them by #if DEBUG..#end if directives?

Nice simple one (I Hope) to start of the day. I have got a load of calculations going on and then a set of rules being checked after the calculations. I then have 9 booleans which check against the varibles. Basically I would like an easy way to check how many Booleans are False and how many are True.

I have written a fairly basic application. It reads txt files, loads a SQL, and outputs to text files. The application compiles and publishes without an error. The app works perfectly on my PC. I can not get it to work on any other PC. Application will install without an error but when I try to launch the app, nothing happens. Running out of ideas to try and hoping someone may have some tips or tricks to try and see what is going on that I have not tried.I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 with Visual Studio 2008. The only references are for .net 2.0 and ADODB.DLL. I have setup the app to include all references as local copy to true.
I have tried installs on Windows 7 Pro, Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Pro, and Windows Vista. All install without error. Have tried installed as user with admin rights and the PC's primary admin account. When you launch the app, there are no messages in all OS except Windows 7. It will basically Flash a message about checking for compatability and run you through a wizard to see if running as XP or Vista works and it doesn't.

I've started a project in Expression Blend and has been working the codes in Visual Studio 2008. It was alright, no problem. I've worked heaps of projects like that before without any problems. However, out of nowhere, my WPF designer in VS2008 now gives me the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at MS.Internal.Package.VSIsolationProviderService.CreateIsolationProvider(String identity, AssemblyReferenceProvider assemblyReferences, IEnumerable'1 assemblyFolders)
at MS.Internal.Providers.VSDesignerContext.GetIsolationProvider(IServiceProvider provider, [Code] .....
It displays the above instead of displaying the WPF designer. Also, I cannot Debug>Start Debugging the application anymore. I can still run/test/build it in Expression studio though. The funny thing is that if I restart a project in Expression blend, copy all the xaml codes, and copy all the vb .net codes from the original application, it works for some time, and then afterwards start giving me the same error at wpf designer in VS2008.

I have a VERY perplexing problem in both Visual Basic 2008 & 2010 Express. When I try to debug my project, the program runs without stopping at any breakpoints. If I start the debugging by clicking on Step In, the application just starts running. The Immediate Window has the following line, when I start debuging with Step In:Step into: Stepping over non-user code 'QBPOExport.GlobalFunctions.Main' (QBPOExport.GlobalFunctions.Main is my startup task)

I am going nuts here. First time trying to debug an app that uses threads. I have a console application with a thread that calls Sub (Sub A) from a thread. I have been able to get the debugger to stop on breakpoints in Sub A by setting the condition to "Test" = Thread.CurrentThread.Name (and naming the thread "Test") Using a normal breakpoint does nothing.
However, in Sub A after it hits the breakpoint, any stepping (F10, F11) causes the Sub and app to exit instead of going to the next line of code. There is an IF / ELSE statement in Sub A. I have put a System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine statement in both the IF / ELSE blocks, yet none of this code executes. Sub A calls a webservice, so I initially thought something might have been crashing in that, so I tried running Sub A without using a separate thread and everything works as expected. Do I need to change some setting in VS2008's debugger?
