I want to make a program that can communicate with other programs, Like a tcpserver/client.But i don't know where to start. I want the user to be able to submit several urls to pictures on the internet and for other users to be able to view those pictures. How can I do this?

i've also tried this with a button for show and a button for hide aswell incase SW_HIDE and SW_RESTORE are being used too fast after each other, but same issue.
i want to make a simple program where i can add/edit or delete a shortcut from an installed programs in my computer.
let say c:program filesmicrosoft officeoffice11winword.exe.
the purpose of this is i want some of my selected programs to be in a single window where i can click to open so i don't need to go to start then programs and open that specific program.
i want to run that program in startup so everytime i start my computer the shell or the program is already running and i could click the program that i want on that window.
I am sure this can be done, as Visual Studio is basically built this way. What I want to do is simply make a class that my other workmates can use. But rather than have it in a code form, I want to build it (partially), and then my workmate can add it into their programs (sort of, like the add reference for the .NET stuff).

This applies to many developers who might have multiple programs running continuously and it would be great to have an app that monitors these programs..or does anyone think it is just unnecessary.
View 1 RepliesIn class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.

View 6 RepliesI currently have two programs that need to comunicate one with another. It doesn't have to be something complicated, it's just passing data from one to another, all very simple. I was thinking of using .net remoting, but I've heard there's a new thing WCF. Should I go for the .net remoting or try WCF? Or is there something simpler to use?
edit: Both applications are simple, I don't want to have anything to do with IIS, services and such.

My program is almost done now and I'm about a week from releasing it, but I want to make sure no one cracks it!
I guess I need some way of adding serials or something and also making sure two serials aren't being used on different ip's.To use my program you have to be connected to the internet, if not it won't do you any good anyway, so it's no problem if it closes if it can't get a connection from a website or anything

The program's function (if I manage to do it) will be to accept drag/drop files and create a link to them within the program itself. For example: I drag and drop the .exe to a game I have installed; the program then creates a shortcut within itself; the shortcut is displayed in the program with the name/icon; if I click the icon within the program, game launches.I've already manually coded something to this same effect, but it doesn't automatically add new shortcuts/buttons so I have to keep going back in and reprogramming another button every time I install a new game/program. I'd like to be able to just drag/drop and be ready to go. Any ideas on how I can get this function? I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.

I got the computer from my friend named John and the user I have all of my stuff on is john. If I change the username is it possible that things coulds get messed up? I have never done a web service/windows service or anything along the lines of what I am thinking so I would like some advice from some more experienced developers.I will be using VS2008 and VB.NET. My company currently mostly works in .NET 2.0 for our commercial application, but since this will be used mostly in house I would be able to use .NET 3.5 if suggested (am just not overly familiar with the additional features in .NET 3.5).What I would like is to have a server/service that communicates with multiple PCs. I want to create an application/web page (not familiar with web development so would probably start out as a winform app and possibly move to a web app to consume the service) that would query the web service/remoting service/whatever to retrieve information from each of the PCs (track the version of the application that is running, retrieve log files, push an update program to the PC (to be run manually)).
Not being too familiar with this type of scenario I was thinking something to the effect of:Each PC run a Windows Service that monitored the local PC. When something changes (software update installed?), tell the web service that the new version is installed.A service (web service? remoting server? other?) running on a PC that would be the interface to the windows service (not sure how the web service would talk to the Windows service without the Windows service initiating, though, unless it is also running a server) on the individual PCs. The service could request an update from the PCs (get the software version, request a file). The service would also be able to push an update program to the PCs to be run manually.

Basically, I have an app that communicates with a server. I need a way to monitor all the sent and received packets that are being transmitted through the app. I've been killing myself the past two days trying to figure a way to hook into ws2_32.dll to monitor these packets but I can't find a way!

I am wanting to create a simple program that monitors what programs are opening and if necessary close one or two. I would also like to know if it is possible to get the window title (using a simple function/sub) and check with a stored list of programs,
whether that particular program is allowed to be open and if so before the program can be opened a password dialog will appear asking the user to enter the defined password in order to continue opening the program. Is this possible? Also should the password entered not match up, the program/process will not be allowed to open and will be closed/cancelled.

I Have a problem with vb.net. Basically I created an application that communicates via system.net.socket. on the server side of client connect, and a thread checks whether there are new incoming data. if there are data, puts them in a few tread declared variables, together with the "index" of the server. once this is done through "INVOKE" calls a routine that checks the incoming data andperforms an operation based on the data. I'll see what I do not work

But that does not appear in the texbox, appears only "returndata", the rest c 'is same thing with the messagebox, individually, can display a messagebox with variable,but when I try to make a messagebox that displays them together, the texbox same thing!
