I'm not sure if this is where I should post as to this is my first time on these forums. But, I am creating something that communicates to a server, and on the server part it's giving me troubles, and I am confused on how to fix it. I did rip the code off some where online.The line that I am getting the error "Warning2'Public Sub New(port As Integer)' is obsolete: 'This method has been deprecated. Please use TcpListener(IPAddress localaddr, int port) instead.[URL].. on is this line:

I am hoping to get some advice on a project that I am wanting to work on. I have never done a web service/windows service or anything along the lines of what I am thinking so I would like some advice from some more experienced developers.I will be using VS2008 and VB.NET. My company currently mostly works in .NET 2.0 for our commercial application, but since this will be used mostly in house I would be able to use .NET 3.5 if suggested (am just not overly familiar with the additional features in .NET 3.5).What I would like is to have a server/service that communicates with multiple PCs. I want to create an application/web page (not familiar with web development so would probably start out as a winform app and possibly move to a web app to consume the service) that would query the web service/remoting service/whatever to retrieve information from each of the PCs (track the version of the application that is running, retrieve log files, push an update program to the PC (to be run manually)).
Not being too familiar with this type of scenario I was thinking something to the effect of:Each PC run a Windows Service that monitored the local PC. When something changes (software update installed?), tell the web service that the new version is installed.A service (web service? remoting server? other?) running on a PC that would be the interface to the windows service (not sure how the web service would talk to the Windows service without the Windows service initiating, though, unless it is also running a server) on the individual PCs. The service could request an update from the PCs (get the software version, request a file). The service would also be able to push an update program to the PCs to be run manually.

Basically, I have an app that communicates with a server. I need a way to monitor all the sent and received packets that are being transmitted through the app. I've been killing myself the past two days trying to figure a way to hook into ws2_32.dll to monitor these packets but I can't find a way!

In my application, I've built an object that communicates with an OPC server and whenever the value of a certain OPC item changes, it logs all the OPC items to a database. This all works beautifully. However, I'm having a problem with disposing of the instances of this class. Whenever I want to remove an instance of this class from the application, I'm dereferencing the object (objDevice = Nothing) and letting GC take care of the rest. I've inserted breakpoints and am monitoring to ensure that the object is dereferenced (it is).
Problem is, even after the object has been dereferenced and is CONFIRMED to be equal to Nothing, the object is still logging data to the database. I'm still trying to get a handle on disposing of objects properly, but most everything I read tells me to dereference and let Garbage Collection take over.

I Have a problem with vb.net. Basically I created an application that communicates via system.net.socket. on the server side of client connect, and a thread checks whether there are new incoming data. if there are data, puts them in a few tread declared variables, together with the "index" of the server. once this is done through "INVOKE" calls a routine that checks the incoming data andperforms an operation based on the data. I'll see what I do not work

It does not work ...

I am using Visual Basic Express 2008 to write an application that communicates with a Digi Watchport/D sensor. This is an IR sensor and I checked the manual for the commands to send to it. In order to get the distance, it say to send the sensor the command D<CR>. Here is my code so far...

What I'm doing to making something that is /like/ the MSWPI(microsoft web platform installer), but not quite. When you open it up, a dialog will pop up, and ask for a username, and password to the site(I might be able to do that with "SendKeys"), is it is correct, it will load up a list of files and directories. From there the use3r can download anything. I want to make this for my website, where i will sometimes post a tutorial, and post the programs I make, but most programs that are not done yet go in to the private server...

I'm trying to write code to create a new database and then create tables within the database.
I'm running into a strange problem right now, which is the fact that I was able to create a new database ok on either the regular SQL Server instance, or the SQLEXPRESS instance. However, when I attempted to create a table, I got an error message saying that there is already a table of the same name.
When I tried to connect to the new database via SQL Server Management Studio, I could see the database. However, there are no tables in it! So, theoretically, I'm creating a brand new blank DB, so there should not be anything in this DB, right? and I should be able to create any tables I want in it!

I just have one simple form with a button on it. The click event on this button calls the CreateAllDBs() routine.

When i'm trying to create a new SQL Server Database in VB.NET 2005 through Server Explorer i'm getting following error (no matter what authentication i select):An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider:Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)i have properly selected my Server and entered a different name to the new database.

I'm not even sure where to start. I would like to create something like the ADO DataReader but that works in a TCP Client/Server scenario.Basically, in the TCP Client, I want to be able to call a certain command in the TCP Server which will return a DataReader like object, which I can then iterate through such as:
while dr.Read from the client. In each loop, I would parse out the various fields as in a normal DataReader.The reason I want to do this is to gain the inherent efficiency of the DataReader object since it doesn't first load ALL of the data. To my understanding, the typical TCP Client/Server setup using streams, would first load all of the data on the server, then transport ALL of that data to the client for processing. I want to avoid that, and just stream the data as the client requests through the Read() command which means the connection will remain open to the server while the Read() command is being issued by the client, or until explicitly closed by the client.

I have to create a project management application in VB.Net Framework 4 which should create a client folder in a public folder in Exchange server.
I think the only way to create a public folder is through the management console. Is there a way to connect to the Exchange server and execute the creation command file from the code but I do not know how.

I'm working on creating a web application which is going to allow the user to upload a video file to the server. Once the file is uploaded to the server, it's going to be converted to .flv and copied to another folder in the same directory. Since I'm doing this from a web app, I don't want to tie up the app with the conversion process. That is when I figured this might be a good time to try threading the conversion process... what do you think?
Currently, my process logic is this:
1) User presses the upload button.
2) A dummy record is created in the database for the file being uploaded.
3) Folders are created on the server to house the original video file and the converted video file.
4) The original is copied to the server.
5) Once the original is finished being copied, the app converts the original to .flv and saves it in another folder.
6) Information about the conversion process is stored in a .xml file
7) The dummy record is updated with real data
8) There is a redirect to a page that lets the user view the .flv file on the web

how to create Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2005 for a Client Server application? The problem I faced is that when I created Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2005 where the Crystal Report is displayed in the client application it does not get refreshed with data entered. It only displays data that was entered during the time of development. I think this is probably because the database path changes when deployed in a new environment while the Crystal report keeps referring to the database location at development time.

I ran across some legacy code which creates a link to a file on the web server and offers the user a link to download the file.
Machine name:
MYSERVER
[URL]
Full url path to the directory containing the file to download: [URL]
Target file name:
downloadable.txt
The code does the following to create a link to 'downloadable.txt'
server.machinename.tostring & ".. argetdownloadable.txt"
Which results in:
"MYSERVER.. argetdownloadable.txt"
That link appears on the page as:
<a href="MYSERVER.. arget.downloadable.txt">download this file</a>
In IE 7, mousing over the link shows the full URL "[URL]" in the status bar. And it works fine for downloading the file in IE 7 (left or right-click). Firefox shows "[URL]" in the status bar and downloading the file isn't as straight forward. FF actually tries to change the file name to include the server name and target directory in the file name.
I've tried other methods like WebClient.DownloadFile() and had no success. This works, but I'm unfamiliar with the ".." and curious about how it works. I understand that ".." typically means go up one directory. My question was really more in the line of "how does that get interpreted in the browser to sort out the path?"

I am attempting to create a ASP .Net (VB.Net) custom control for an auto-complete drop down that uses jQuery auto-complete.The basic flow is the consumer of the control will set some properties (such as the data source) which will then be injected as javascript to initialize the autocomplete.There are a lot of pieces involved so i may have missed posting some of the code, please comment if you think something is missing and i will add it.the consumer's code behind (PreInit event):
