I have a form and I drag and drop a control in VB.NET. I have a line say,
private WithEvents radioButton RadioButton
Also, I have a handler like,
private void click(.....) Handles radioButton.Click {
...
}
Now, When I build this is .NET 3.5 in release mode, and see the generated code in reflector tool, the code is something like:
Private Overridable Property radioButton As RadioButton
.
.
.
<AccessedThroughProperty("radioButton")> _
Private _radioButton As RadioButton
And how do I avoid the generation of new properties and fields?

When I reference a DLL in my VB.net 2005 project, is there any way to prevent it from being copied to the projects release folder? I would just like it to use the dll were it is registered on the server.

I've searched the VS settings and haven't discovered why the bin.Release folder is empty after a build. The bin.Debug folder output is normal. The same occurs with the obj.* folder.

This problem has been doing my head in all day and wouldn't mind a bit of advice. Basically I have a table in my db called tblTree which looks a bit like this :
TreeId, ParentId
1 0
2 0
3 2
Each row represent a folder. The TreeId is a unique Primary Key.The ParentId refers to the folder this belongs in so in the above example TreeId 3 is a folder created in the the folder represented by TreeId 2.The 0 in ParentId represents the root. How in Gods name am i supposed to create a folder structure using this table?

I've been obsessed with this since I explored it this morning. The post by John Wein shown here fostered a renewed thought about something I've wanted to do for a long time: Generate a "safe" list of folders/subfolders to search in. Whether we're trying to copy or just look through them to show them in a list or whatever else, invariably we're faced with the exception of "Cannot access", usually due to System Volume being attempted to be accessed.John came up with a brilliant strategy in that it's effective, fast, and done with such little code! My hat's off to you John! Now to the purpose of this post. I've taken his code and modified it (only to be run in debug mode so you can see exceptions) and I'm wondering if anyone would care to set up a little test project and run it also - so we can see if in fact we may now have an effective means of generating a list of safe folders/subfolders as preface for whatever other file operations happen next?
Copy and paste the following and let me know the results? Change the drive/folder as you like and let me know if it runs into an exception?

I have a form that contains a crystal report viewer. When I open this form, it runs a report. I am using a .LDB viewer to tell who is logged into an access database. I noticed that when this form opens, the computer logs into the database and stays logged in. Even when the form is closed, the computer is listed as "logged in". If I run the report again, it just adds another instance of that same computer logged in. Therefore, it continues to pile up logins until the application is closed.

creating unique IDs for each row in a table, to avoid duplicates when inserting the data to a server. The table looks like this:
+--------------+----------+------+-------------+
| brikkenummer | tid | post | anvendt_tid |
+--------------+----------+------+-------------+
| 3086360 | 09:43:02 | 98 | 09:43:02 |
[code]....
"Brikkenummer" is the number of a device that each person carries with him/her, and "tid" is the time the runner has passed a specific post. The post he/her has passed is described in the column "post".Out of these three columns, is it possible to generate some kind of unique ID? The ID that is generated have to be the same if a row is displayed twice or more, to avoid duplicate entries.

We have an application that was written in VB6 which I am trying to convert to use the latest VB (Visual Studio 2008), mostly because it's not possible to buy a licenced version of VB6 anymore (personally I'd have been happy to just keep using VB6, but without having a proper licenced version of it, we basically had to chance). The VB6 version I could simply tell it to compile the application and it produced the .exe file which I could then copy onto the server where it was running and replace the old version and then run it.
It seems like such simple things are not possible in VB 2008.I have got the application converted, and if I run it through the debugger it is working correctly, but now I need to get a compiled application to run on the server and can't seem to do it.I have tried using the publish application thing, and nothing I try succeeds in getting a working application.

I am making an application that will organize the movies and their release dates for me and that it will notify me whenever a movie is released. So far I have the layout almost done with some parts missing.
BASICS
1. At the top as you can see I want the text to display the current day and having the tool tip to say "Today is Tuesday 19, 2009" while I want the text to be centered.
2. I want to have a poster with a specific size (dimensions) that will be displayed when the movie is selected at the data grid and I want the buttons to be able to select the previous or next data grid line, meaning next/previous movie.
3. I want to make the buttons either check all the boxes or uncheck them all. And I want the validate button to be able to compare the date of the selected movie with the current day and tell me If it was released today or not.
4. I will make a menu at the top that will be giving you the ability to add movies or select and delete movies, while when adding being able to specify a poster for the movie.
5. I want every time that I run the app to automatically check the dates and either ask me to remove those who have been released some time ago or give me a message like "Movie was released today".

Is there a way to set admin permission on them user/AppData/Local/Temp folder?I need to set it so folders and subfolder cant be deleted, then turn it back on. Not doing anything shady... this is for personal use I make themes for BB phones, and there is a trick where you can set this permission, then export the theme, and it allows you to look at the code of the theme so you can make adjustments in how things work

When in VS 2008 if a developer hits the ''' it generates the XML comment tags for you, but this only works when the project setting for "Generate XML documentation file" is checked. Is there a way to tell VS to generate the XML Comment tags, regardless of the project setting? I think it is possible that someone may want comments but not create a XML documentation file. In this case I am exceeding the current Team Settings, yet other developers don't want me to change this project setting. This forces me to flip this back before checking in the project. I have the same problem with other Project settings like "code Analysis". This is only a problem for VB.NET projects.

how to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual BasicI am new to this so I will try to explain the best I can.[code]I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.Is there anyone that can explain how I would go about doing this. Or maybe some kind of visual studio plugin that will help me out. Or reference?I don't need anyone to do this for me I just need an explanation of how to do this or some kind of reference. Would this be a text template?

How to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:
Code:
function Init(Quest)
Then from here a user would input a quest name, type and zone in a interface using windows forms.
Ex:
Code:
RegisterQuest(Quest, "Kill Zombies", "Heritage", "Firestorm")
end
This part a user would enter in his interface what would an NPC say if accepted.
[Code] .....
What I need is a few text boxs that a user can input "Kill Zombies" or whatever they like and when they push a generate button it will create a file with a .quest extension. All of the code remains the same except for the quotes that would be the user input from the interface. Basically everything in quotes can be changed by the user in an interface. I have created my own functions for when a user accepts, deny and complete a quest. The user just needs to input what should happen then click a generate button to throw it all together as a .quest file to be saved in his or her quest folder for the server to call on later.
I also have many other functions like:
AddQuestRewardFaction --- (Quest, Faction ID, Amount)
AddQuestRewardCoin --- (Quest, Copper, Silver, Gold, Plat)
AddQuestStepObtainItem --- (Quest, Step ID, Description, Quantity, Percentage, TaskGroupText, Item ID(s))
Etc
I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.
