VS 2008 Prevent A Computer From Entering Sleep/Standby/Hibernate While Program Is Running?

Title pretty much says it all. Does anyone know a way to to prevent a computer from entering a low/non-processing mode while the program is running? I don't care about monitor modes, screen-savers, hard-drive spindown, etc (in fact, I'd prefer to leave those alone; I like it that it shuts the monitor off after a time period).Basically, I have an industrial program that needs to continually monitor a PCI card it uses for IO; and this activity alone isn't enough to convince Windows not to go into Sleep mode. We normally just shut the power-save features off, but we had an incident where a technician forgot, a customer's machine went to Sleep after the end of the shift, the pumps stopped recirculating, yadda-yadda big mess.

I am trying to differentiate between sleep and hibernate when I catch a Power Mode changed event and I am quite stuck.
What I am doing currently is I catch this: SystemEvents.PowerModeChanged and get the mode of the PowerModeChangedEventArgs which can be PowerModesSuspend amongst others. My problem is that both sleep and hibernate cause the same event.

If I have an event that starts a timer with an interval of say, 30 minutes, and 15 minutes later, the computer the app is running on sleeps (Suspend to RAM) or Hibernates (Suspend to Disk), and is brought back online after ten minutes, will the timer raise its Tick event in 5 minutes (30 minutes REAL time from the start) or 15 minutes (30 minutes RUNTIME from the start)?

I am using a database (access) were i am not using a primary key field. I would like to prevent the user from entering records , if certain fields allready exsists.
I would like to check for 3 of the fields. When these 3 fields has been filled previously with the same data as the new data, i want to return a message.

I was making a little timer. When the phone is not in standby, my app is working fine. But when i put the phone in standby it stops. When phone is coming out of standby, the timer is going again on the time i put the phone in standby.
I know that other tools keep working, so i there a simple way to do that?

i got 2 program here...exe and B.exe.. B.exe is external program.. how can i run my program just once at same time? all start from .exe.. if .exe running twice, a messagebox appear ".exe already running".. if .exe detect B.exe was running, a messeagebox appear "B.exe already running".. i'm using Visual Basic.NET..

I have a datagrid with 5 columns.2 of these columns will have data entered into them automatically - depending on the entries of 2 textboxes.I can disable these 2 columns ok.How can I have it so that the tab key doea not enter the cells of these 2 disabled columns. ideally I'd like the tab to enter the cells of the abled columns only.

i want to prevent users from entering numbers and other characters such as (_,"*&^$#).... into my textbox-u know what i mean! I want my textbox to accept only alphabets. I have written a function that is able to check the numbers but i don't know how to check whether the text contains those special characters. The app uses several forms to let the user enter information. In each form the info is entered into textboxes and dealt with elsewhere when the "Enter" button is clicked. A lot if the info entered is used in calculations and so must not contain alpha characters, only numbers. Currently, users can highlight a combo box control defined as shown above and begin typing anything they like. For example, I have one combo box that offers the user a selection of integers between 1 and 9. I can highlight the combo box cell and enter "Hello, World!" if I'd like.What does it take to disable this ability? I'm sure there's a property, but I have yet to find it. I have searched the Internet, and have found only the ability to have user-entered values added to the list and a stream of data-binding tutorials.

The coding that I have a problem with might make people think that I am creating some malware or something stupid. So the project I am doing is associated with iTunes. iTunes allows people to have one library. There is another way, but it is very confusing to some people, and very unreliable. So my project is that I will allow people to have multiple iTunes libraries on one computer. So the problem is this. In order to have an option to choose your library, I gotta make sure that iTunes is not running. So this is the script:

I have a windows application written in VB.Net 2008, framework 3.5. This app is running on 2 remote desktop servers. I have one user who receives error, This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. when entering in a text box. When he uses the application on Server 1 he does not receive the error. It only happens to this 1 user on one server.

Currently I'm using System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000) to let my app pause/sleep for some time. This works great but I can't open my app anymore when it's sleeping and it uses about 25% of my CPU. I guess there must be a better way to do this. I also tried using a timer but that didn't work out to well for me..

I'm trying to develop a windows application where i can get connected to remote server and look for process state going in remote server.We have many remote servers where automatic installation of software going on. We have an xml file(installstatus.xml) where it tells us at what stage the installation is (Example : Inprogress , Completed, Failed.)
So our aim is to develop a windows application where i can get connected to that servers and look for their installation status(may be we can use installstatus.xml to look for installation status). Every time i connect to a server, the server information should get stored in XML file(i want to create a xml file where all the servers list i connect to should get stored)
The UI at left side should will have list of servers i can connect to. When i get connected to server, at right side of UI, i want to display the status of installation (In progress, failed , completed).

I have a textbox1.textchanged event in my application.. so when I start typing into the textbox, it looks up the value of what I'm typing against a dataset. There is a datagrid in my application as well, and if i click a cell in the datagrid, it pastes a value into that textbox... when this happens, I don't want the textbox to do look up the value against the db.. I just want it to paste into the textbox without any further action..

i am trying to use the sleep command in vb 2008 multiple times to constantly change back color but am told, Unable to load DLL 'Kernel 32': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). i tried it with another program and one sleep(1000) and it worked so is there a way to use this multiple times or any other command.ian hendry
