If I have an event that starts a timer with an interval of say, 30 minutes, and 15 minutes later, the computer the app is running on sleeps (Suspend to RAM) or Hibernates (Suspend to Disk), and is brought back online after ten minutes, will the timer raise its Tick event in 5 minutes (30 minutes REAL time from the start) or 15 minutes (30 minutes RUNTIME from the start)?

I have an application that detects a Power mode change using.
SystemEvents.PowerModeChanged
if there is a way to detect if the system is going to sleep or hibernate?
I am trying to differentiate between sleep and hibernate when I catch a Power Mode changed event and I am quite stuck.
What I am doing currently is I catch this: SystemEvents.PowerModeChanged and get the mode of the PowerModeChangedEventArgs which can be PowerModesSuspend amongst others. My problem is that both sleep and hibernate cause the same event.
Title pretty much says it all. Does anyone know a way to to prevent a computer from entering a low/non-processing mode while the program is running? I don't care about monitor modes, screen-savers, hard-drive spindown, etc (in fact, I'd prefer to leave those alone; I like it that it shuts the monitor off after a time period).Basically, I have an industrial program that needs to continually monitor a PCI card it uses for IO; and this activity alone isn't enough to convince Windows not to go into Sleep mode. We normally just shut the power-save features off, but we had an incident where a technician forgot, a customer's machine went to Sleep after the end of the shift, the pumps stopped recirculating, yadda-yadda big mess.

My assumption for this output would be that the time between each line would have to be exactly 5000 milliseconds plus the time it takes to execute the rest of the loop which could vary given that there could be an unknown delay due to disk IO. My problem is that looking at lines 10 and 11 and subtracting gives me a difference of 4,958 milliseconds. So my question is what the heck is going on there? How is it possible to get a difference of less than 5000 milliseconds when I have told the thread to sleep for 5000 milliseconds before completing the process. What am I missing?

This works great but I can't open my app anymore when it's sleeping and it uses about 25% of my CPU. I guess there must be a better way to do this. I have a timer in vb.net and it's interval is 1000ms ,. i have placed in it's timer_tick event a code that will print screen the screen and save it to a database.The problem is when i click outside of the form, or loosing the focus of the mouse to the form containing that timer/printscreen, the timer stops. I've created a form with several controls to specify the inputs to my program. They include TextBox, OpenFileDialog, Button and even a user control for numeric input. When the user clicks the 'GO' button, the program begins it work. Opening several files and processing a bunch of numerical data. This could take many minutes/hours with large datasets.
What I've been trying to do is have another window/form open up and send status information to it for the user to view. The info to be displayed is varied and constantly updated as the program crunches the numbers. Many many programs do just this type of activity.
I attempted to create a second form with a huge TextBox thinking I'd just write stuff to it. I called the .show method within the .click of the 'GO' button and of course the form is displayed but control of the program's execution doesn't return until the form is closed. How to I maintain execution and have a second window/form to display status?
The coding that I have a problem with might make people think that I am creating some malware. So the project I am doing is associated with iTunes. iTunes allows people to have one library. There is another way, but it is very confusing to some people, and very unreliable. So my project is that I will allow people to have multiple iTunes libraries on one computer. So the problem is this. In order to have an option to choose your library, I gotta make sure that iTunes is not running.

In a vb 2010 project, I have 2 win forms: Form1 and Form2.
In the Form1 class there is a server-based timer: when the "elapsed event" fires, then I update the text of a Label1 on the Form2. A very simple code:

I've been trying to use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(15)" as the delay code but if freeze the form. I used this "Location.Refresh()" where location is the name of the form, but it didn't give me what I need. This code is going to work on a ProgressBar while typing and the value of the progress bar change while typing. The progress bar jumps to the new value and I want it to move. So I thought about puting it in a "For ... Loop" but the whole form freezes.

I've created a "Loading" borderless Form that's displayed when loading records etc. I'm using the following to keep the loading dialog centered within it's parent.Works great except fo when the form is minimised estore- The loading form appears instantly while the parent (Owner) maximises with the usual VistaWindows 7 animated maximise.
What would be the best method to prevent the loading form appearing before the main form?

When loading the form then my windows state is maximized (properties--windows state--maximized). After loading the form then if I press taskbar menu top(maximise button is disabled and minimize button is disabled on form) then size of form is changing. I have used screen.width,and height to restore when form resizes but still for the first time of form loading it moves and set to the boundaries. Atleast once also it should not move. How to stop changing the windows state from moving when we click task bar. Again in form properties -- application -- I have checked -- make single instance application. When if again any other path same form is opened. Then also it resizes to other state.

is there anyway to sleep a thread for a "tick". i.e. the tick in StopWatch.ElapsedTick. right now the best i could achieve is this thread.sleep(1). i need it faster
