VS 2008 Reading From A Specific Row In A Database?
Mar 17, 2011
in my program i have a list box full of rooms and when that rooms selected all its details are to be shown in a bunch of different labels. Problem is, no matter which room is selected the data readers only reading from the very first row in the database. I've got a variable to hold the name of wich rooms selected, but how would i use that variable to determine where the rest of the data should be read from.
heres the code that im using
Private Sub lbRoomLoc_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lbRoomLoc.SelectedIndexChanged
I am reading data from the database with SQLCommand object SQLReader, all I want to know is I want to read a specific row from my column myData...e.g.I want to read row 11 or random row from mycolumn, what is the correct syntax I am reading all the data(rows) from mycolumn with the command
"SELECT mycolumn from Table1"
what is the syntax to read the 11 or any row of this column?
I have built everything for Beta one and I thought I had done very well until and Exception happens when I try and run it. Please could someone take a look at this and see if you know whats causing it:
Message: {"No value given for one or more required parameters."} Error -2147217904 Item: In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user. I don't know whether more info is required from the error but it happens on this line:
DReader = DSelectCommand.ExecuteReader
[Code]...
I have checked the database is in the target location and the table names and column names are all correct.
I'm currently doing a project, I have 5 text boxes, and the information I put inside them get's added to a record in my database..In this record, an auto-number is allocated, and I need to display what the auto-number allocated is..
I'm trying to read the content of a field in a mysql database. I found this code below that does it but you must select the position of the field (column 0, 1, 2 etc) myData.GetString(1) instead of the name of the field. In the php code above it is "title". I'm looking for a command like myData.GetString("title")
Dim myCommand As New MySqlCommand Dim myAdapter As New MySqlDataAdapter Dim myData As MySqlDataReader
I want to make visual basic read between <strong> and </strong> , and take out the "welcome back,".I want it to just say "itoknc". How could I do that with inner html?

when using stream reader to read text files how would i go about reading or referencing specific lines.so if i wanted to read from say line 2, 3, 4 or 10,11,12 in the textfile or what ever.
I have been learning VB for about 3 months now at college and decided to enhance my skills by making my own project at home. My project is basically a game where you have to guess if the next number will be higher or lower than the previous version and you can place bets on it. I have done all of this ok but I wanted to create a high score system so that you could save your score.I can manage to write out to a text file ok so that it looks like this
Highscores Name Score
[code]....
etc. But I am not sure on how to read in a specific line. So for example I want lblHighscore1.text to equal line 3 of the text document (as vb counts the first line as 0) So far all I have is this;
Dim objReader As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader("C:UsersKarlDesktopHighScore.t xt") lblHighscore1.Text = (objReader.ReadLine)
G'day all, I've been on google for far too long trying to figure this out, so hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction. I'm trying to write a program that will open an Excel spreadsheet and read data from specific cells while preserving datatypes, so that I can write the data to an XML file. The basic functions I need to perform reduce to:
How to read a string in another string where between Starting Index and first-encountered Ending IndexI have one giant file which contains info for each customers and they seperated the customers info with Starting and Ending Indexes and I need to get a specific customer info to display.
Dim oFile As New FileInfo(sFileName) Dim sFileContent As String = oFile.OpenText().ReadToEnd() Dim iStartIndex As Integer = sFileContent.IndexOf(roNotification.StartByte)
I want to read a file from a specific position and at the same time i want to use the StreamReader.Peek to check out how it works....... So i tried out this
1/15/2011; somedescription ; Joe Blow ; $50 1/18/2011; somedescription ; John Doe ; $30 2/1/2011; somedescription; Joe Blow; $90
I want to be able to pull all rows of data associated with Joe Blow if a users selects Joe Blow from a combobox. In testing this out I added the code to a button
I'm currently use visual basic 2008. The problem is I have try this code but,it produce no output. There is no problem with the code I guess. Here is my code
Dim i As Integer = 0 Dim line As String 'Dim reader As StreamReader = New StreamReader("C:\drill.txt")
I'm trying to create a program that stores a users stats for their character (for something like an RPG). I know how to write more than one line in a text file, but I want to learn how to read and write text on specific lines of my file. I know that you can just read each new line individually in order using a StreamReader, such as
This is good for just displaying the stats and changing them from a constant interface, but I'm afraid that eventually I'll need to read/write specific lines, like reading the fourth line which might specify magic level, or writing a new money amount.
I am currently writing a Login Script, and I am having trouble making StreamReader read a specific line in a text file. This is what I have so far (not the entire script, just the reader lines): Dim path As String = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.ApplicationData) Dim file As String = (path + "LogDat.txt") Dim sr As New IO.StreamReader(file) Dim line1 As String = sr.ReadLine(1) '' Supposed to read line 1 Dim line4 As String = sr.ReadLine(4) '' Supposed to read line 4 Dim line9 As String = sr.ReadLine(9) '' Supposed to read line 9
What I am trying to do is I have a .dat file that I cannot read but can at the same time. What I mean is I know how to decipher it by hand (alas takes minutes per 6 parts and there are thousands.) I am trying to make an application that can read this and allow me to edit it from my computer. I can open this with a hex program such as hex editor neo. I am currently trying to get it so I can read the file and have it place corresponding parts in to text boxes that I can alter to suit my needs.
I am new to visual basic and know a tiny bit about C++ if you think I would be better off trying in C# I can try that as well I do know some since learning c++. There are 41 parts to each item listed in the file and each one would need to go in its own text box. In hex there are 348 blocks that need to be arranged in corresponding order. Also the beginning of the file has 6 block followed by a code for each item. I need to find a way to put all the correct code in the correct text box and have it make sense.
I have a button which reads a comma separated value file and loads it into a richtextbox. Each line contains comma separated chars.
Once the file is loaded in the richtextbox, i want to be able to select specific values from each line and store them into an array.
For example: Line1: a,b,c,d,e
I want to be able to place only the values "b" and "c" into an array.
I was thinking something like creating a menu for the richtextbox which will be triggered on right click, then highlight the values I want, press right click and select 'place these values in an array'.
it doesn't have to be the way i proposed it, but it definitely must use a richtextbox.
I wonder if it is possible to find a specific row and specific columns in data base file (Access) . You see , I am using a DataGridView control to show only SOME of the columns (fields) of a table from an Access file . For example , lets say that in the DataGridView control I only show the following fields :Field1 , Field2 and Field3 .Now , when the user selects an entry in the DataGridView control , I want to insert the text from Field4 into a text box on the form .
The problem , however , is that I don't know how to get the specific row in the data base file and also I don't know how to get the text in column (field) Field4 of that row .One thing that might be important is that the index of the row in the data base file is not necessarily the same with the index of the current row in the DataGridView control . This is because in the DataGridView control the rows are order by the contents in the ID Field .ol .
I've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this
If FirstLineOfTextInFile = "English" Then EnglishForm.Show() ElseIf FirstLineOfTextInFile = "Metric" Then[code]....
And so on...I read a lot of articles from the MSDN library and exhausted each link that I've looked through from Google and Bing, but most only retrieve data from the file to a single text box through some loop or streamreader and don't take into account multiple forms.
HTML Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter("Select * From " & Me.OpenFileDialog1.SafeFileName & "", con) Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(da) Dim foundRow() As Data.DataRow foundRow = ds.Tables("dataset").Select("OffMarketDate = '#4/6/1963#'")
I have a table in a database with 3 columns: OfferName, ExperienceAward, and GoldAward
I populate a combobox with the various offer names with the code below:
Dim con As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection( _ "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:UsersDouglasDocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsGameBoxRPGGameBoxRPGContacts.accdb;Persist Security Info=False") Dim cmd As OleDbCommand = New _
I have been trying to create a login page for a while and most of that time I have been searching for info on how to make it read the username, password and any other information off of a database.
I recently gave up and decided to use some code which reads it from a .txt file and this works and therefore I could complete the rest of the page and test it using the .txt file. However, a .txt file is not an ideal place to store the information as it is difficult to look at the text and find what you need to change if you want to upgrade the system to hold more data than before so therefore I came to this site to seek help on making the login page work with a database.
Im trying to get my program to fill out textboxes with information it reads from a database, and then save the changes to the database. Does anybody know any good tutorials of this which i could look into?
here's the scenario. There's 2 types of employees; Worker and Manager. The worker will have to access the page 'worker.aspx' and the Manager will have to access the page 'manager.aspx'. In my login database (Access 2007) I have the first name, last name, username, password and job title of both workers and managers. Ex:
