How to read a string in another string where between Starting Index and first-encountered Ending IndexI have one giant file which contains info for each customers and they seperated the customers info with Starting and Ending Indexes and I need to get a specific customer info to display.
Dim oFile As New FileInfo(sFileName)
Dim sFileContent As String = oFile.OpenText().ReadToEnd()
Dim iStartIndex As Integer = sFileContent.IndexOf(roNotification.StartByte)
The following code reads an XML file and selects the CREDIT_SCORE node with the lowest value. Works fine if there is always a CREDIT_SCORE node. However, I get runtime errors if a PLUS_BORROWER node does not always have a CREDIT_SCORE child node (especially the first PLUS_BORROWER). I added /CREDIT_SCORE to the end of the XPath (and removed scoreNode references) and now it always selects the minimum CREDIT_SCORE. But I do not get the PHONE_NBR.
First - getting the minimum CREDIT_SCORE in a single XPATH is my primary need. And adding the /CREDIT_SCORE to the XPATH accomplishes this.[code...]
Excuse my semantics, I am trying to get the idea across but do not know XML terminology.There are multiple occurances of the PLUS_BORROWER data. I want to save the each of the Credit_Score (793 in this example) and DAYTIME_PHONE_NBR when the Type (Primary in this example) and SOCIAL_SECURITY_NBR are certain values.Then I want to execute a loop and extract the Credit_Score and Daytime_Phone_Nbrs.
HTML <PLUS_BORROWER Type="Primary"> <SOCIAL_SECURITY_NBR>123459999</SOCIAL_SECURITY_NBR>
I have a text file to read.It contain two part: Bottom and top i must read the top part first and match that line with bottom part. and write all the matching lines in another file. The thing that i must matc is from the value in () and from bottom value []. For example the value must Be like this (1234)[1234]. After i find out the values i must copy the whole line from both part than write to another file. For know i can read the value in() from top part copy the whole line but from bottom part i only can get value in[] and can not get whole line from bottom part.
I have a function list of 75000 for my project. I want to load each class file dynamically and need to add one line on top of the function and to lines in the ending. Which is the best way to update a specific part of the file. I don't want to make a small mistake here since its my source code and globally using.
Using C# program I am reading CSV File with value like (Name, Salary, Age) (A, $1,200, 27) (B, 2300, 27)In the header row there are three columns. I want to validate that the number of columns in data rows is also three. (C, 28) should be an invalid file.
I want to make an option to load a playlist file into a textbox.. To do this i guess i will need the OpenFileDialog and Streamreader..
Untill further i have done this
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click OpenFileDialog1.Filter = "Playlist files|*.pls;*.asx"
[Code]....
I want to be able to read ONLY the link from the file.. In the first file above it would be after the "File1=" text in the file.. And in the other file it should be whats written after the "<ref href="" part..
And as you see in the second file there are three links, so to start with it should only read the first line, maybe later i could make a selection window popup or something..
I already know the basic procedure of how to read specific cells of an .xls file using VB.NET but I can't figure out how to automatically get all the data from such a file.Basically, I'm obtaining the data like this:
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application Dim wb As Workbook Dim ws As Worksheet xlApp = New Excel.Application
[code]....
In this case, I know that there will be content in the first 10 rows of the columns A, B and C but what would I have to do if I had a huge document whose size and content might even change from time to time? I know that there is also an attribute ws.rows.count but this always returns a big value like 60000 even if only a few rows are occupied.So basically, I'm looking for a simple way to loop through all the used rows of an Excel file with the possibility of accessing each cell in that row.
I have some .doc binary files stored in my database and i would like to now search them all (without converting them to .doc) to see which one contains the word "hello" for instance.
Is there any way to do this search in the binary file?
I am trying to create a console application that allows me to read the contents of a text file and saving the data by specific name in a set of files. For example, the text file I am going to read is a tab delimited file. Some content of the file includes full name, school, location, and whatnot. I want to save the content by school name in a set of files that have the school names. In this case, everyone that attends "Central" will be saved in a file named Central.txt.Everyone that attends "Central Park" will be saved in a file named Central Park.txt.These are the sub procedures I came up with so far:
Readfile() 'Use StreamReader WriteFile()
And I think I am on the right track of reading the text file:
Dim objStreamReader As StreamReader Dim strLine As String 'Pass the file path and the file name to the StreamReader constructor.
I have been learning VB for about 3 months now at college and decided to enhance my skills by making my own project at home. My project is basically a game where you have to guess if the next number will be higher or lower than the previous version and you can place bets on it. I have done all of this ok but I wanted to create a high score system so that you could save your score.I can manage to write out to a text file ok so that it looks like this
Highscores Name Score
[code]....
etc. But I am not sure on how to read in a specific line. So for example I want lblHighscore1.text to equal line 3 of the text document (as vb counts the first line as 0) So far all I have is this;
Dim objReader As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader("C:UsersKarlDesktopHighScore.t xt") lblHighscore1.Text = (objReader.ReadLine)
I want to read a file from a specific position and at the same time i want to use the StreamReader.Peek to check out how it works....... So i tried out this
1/15/2011; somedescription ; Joe Blow ; $50 1/18/2011; somedescription ; John Doe ; $30 2/1/2011; somedescription; Joe Blow; $90
I want to be able to pull all rows of data associated with Joe Blow if a users selects Joe Blow from a combobox. In testing this out I added the code to a button
I'm trying to create a program that stores a users stats for their character (for something like an RPG). I know how to write more than one line in a text file, but I want to learn how to read and write text on specific lines of my file. I know that you can just read each new line individually in order using a StreamReader, such as
This is good for just displaying the stats and changing them from a constant interface, but I'm afraid that eventually I'll need to read/write specific lines, like reading the fourth line which might specify magic level, or writing a new money amount.
I am currently writing a Login Script, and I am having trouble making StreamReader read a specific line in a text file. This is what I have so far (not the entire script, just the reader lines): Dim path As String = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.ApplicationData) Dim file As String = (path + "LogDat.txt") Dim sr As New IO.StreamReader(file) Dim line1 As String = sr.ReadLine(1) '' Supposed to read line 1 Dim line4 As String = sr.ReadLine(4) '' Supposed to read line 4 Dim line9 As String = sr.ReadLine(9) '' Supposed to read line 9
What I am trying to do is I have a .dat file that I cannot read but can at the same time. What I mean is I know how to decipher it by hand (alas takes minutes per 6 parts and there are thousands.) I am trying to make an application that can read this and allow me to edit it from my computer. I can open this with a hex program such as hex editor neo. I am currently trying to get it so I can read the file and have it place corresponding parts in to text boxes that I can alter to suit my needs.
I am new to visual basic and know a tiny bit about C++ if you think I would be better off trying in C# I can try that as well I do know some since learning c++. There are 41 parts to each item listed in the file and each one would need to go in its own text box. In hex there are 348 blocks that need to be arranged in corresponding order. Also the beginning of the file has 6 block followed by a code for each item. I need to find a way to put all the correct code in the correct text box and have it make sense.
How to show a specific part of web page in visual basic form or in webbrowser?

I am trying to make a program which outputs an Invoice Number, which consists of the first 3 letters of a person's first name and the last 3 digits of their zip code. The user enter their first and last name, then enters their city, state, and zip such as:
Name: Billy Jones City, State, Zip: Chicago, Illinois 42349 Therefore, the invoice would look like: Invoice: Bil349
I can get the first 3 letters of the first name fine using the substring function, but I have been stumped on how to get past all of the text to get the last 3 digits of the zip code entered.
but before that i must check the MIL value. If it is 39MIL i should write T5 first followed by the value from all 39MIL than if have 50MIL it should write T10 followed by all the value from 50MIL my output file will be like this
T5 40898 35899 34205 33537 120461 49324
[code]....
I try this code to split
Dim tfLines() As String = System.IO.File.ReadAllLines("C:file.txt") Dim sf As New System.IO.StreamWriter(drill, True) For I As Integer = 0 To tfLines.Length - 1
Let's say I have a PictureBox with an image of a house, for example, and I want to know if the user clicked on the roof, the door, the window, or the walls.
Is there some way to, maybe, set up an If statement so that it checks what the coordinates of the mouse click was and compares it to a set of pre-determined graphed points to decide what object was clicked?[code]....
try 'code goes here catch ex as exception end try next
now, in my code, i also have if ex = certain error. i'd like it to go back to the top of the try. reason for not letting it do its thing is, i am wanting it to retry it, under the same item. So, is there a way to goto a portion of the code.
I've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this
If FirstLineOfTextInFile = "English" Then EnglishForm.Show() ElseIf FirstLineOfTextInFile = "Metric" Then[code]....
And so on...I read a lot of articles from the MSDN library and exhausted each link that I've looked through from Google and Bing, but most only retrieve data from the file to a single text box through some loop or streamreader and don't take into account multiple forms.
how to count the content of a specific directory?And how do you delete an old file (ex. say your old program that create a back-up. But it has already created many back-ups and now it takes to much of the space in your hardisk.)
