When using a TableLayoutPanel it is possible to put 2 or more objects in 1 cell by using a container in that cell. With a TableLayoutPanel it is possible to span a object over more then 1 cell (ColumnSpan).
Now I want to put 2 or more objects in 1 cell and using Columnspan at the same time. Example: Cel 0,0 exist of 3 labels and 1 label is in cell 0,1 too (see attachment).
Is it possible have different colours in each of the cells of a TableLayoutPanel?

View 4 RepliesI have a TableLayoutPanel with a Chart in the 2nd column and 3rd row, and it's ColumnSpan and RowSpan properties are set to 1 (the effect is that it takes up about a quarter of the screen). When I click the chart I want it to take up most of the screen. I was thinking that I would have to change it's Column/Row and ColumnSpan/RowSpan properties, but it might be easier to change the Column/Row values of the table itself. My main problem is that I'm just starting off on Visual Studio 2010 coming from VB6 and I have no idea where to access any of these properties.
View 1 RepliesI'm adding multi-threading facilities for the first time. I have a function that is wrapped to be run in a separated thread. This function retrieves data (text) from a combobox and it works for sure without multi-threading.
When I call it as multi-threaded, I get the following error when I try to retrieve the data from the cmobobox: Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'cmb1stBL' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
It looks like a restriction of thread-safety... I assume that the child thread cannot read from his parent, to make sure that he doesn't change his parent data. So how can I read the data from the combobox? Should I read the comoboxbox data before calling the child thread?
When I add a control to a TLP in design mode several new properties get added to the control, such as ColumnSpan, RowSpan, etc, which can then be set in the properties window. If I add a control to a TLP in code these properties don't seem to be available. how to set these properties in code if it's even possible?
View 2 RepliesI have datagridview with some columns that the user can hide or show using a contextmenu. Below that I have some textboxes inside a tablelayoutpanel which the user can write into to filter the data in the datagridview.
But if the user hides a column in the datagridview, I want the textbox below to disappear as well and the other textboxes automatically take up the empty space.

The column named "Totaal prijs" has now gone and so has the corresponding textbox below. But the columns in the datagridview now stretch nicely to take up the free space. How can I do the same with the textboxes?
I have a container with different controls in it. This container can be shown 1 or more timeson a form. The number of times is not known when the application is build.So form with the number of containers must be generated by code. When the number of containers is high a scroll bar must be shown.My idea was to use the control TableLayoutPanel. The first row consists of the container with it's controls. When loading the form a number is calculated. This number is used to show the number of containers.

View 7 RepliesWe working with a Modem type interface that use's the Comm port for two way communication. The App starts and sets up the Comm port, and sends config info to the 'Modem'. Trick here is you have specific timing issues that need to be considered, and we got it all sorted, by using Threading.
You send The Config command to the modem and wait X ms for the confirmation reply (Single Byte), If no reply, send a Wake up command, wait X ms and send Config command again. Once confirmed that the modem is in config mode, send parameters, Waiting for confirmation of each one. Once config is set, send the 'Return to normal mode' command and wait for confirmation. [Code]
The SwitchModemMode sub runs under the Comms thread and not the main thread, like the Checkmodem sub at the top. Mostly because the Comms thread Raises the Data Event, which in turn calls the SwitchModemMode. Now because of that the Thread that is supposed to be checking for the input and setting the Flag, is actually the one waiting for the Flag to be set. And Yes App.DoEvents could solve it here, however that can/will mess with the Timing needed with these commands. I'm looking for how to pass the Raised event to the Main thread.
I want to create an in-memory object in VB.Net with multiple columns. What I am trying to do is create an index of some data. It will look like:

My main goal is to have an excel spreadsheet that automatically plots the overall success of my stock portfolio over time (% change over time). I've been able to incorporate stock data into my spreadsheet by linking it to the web, but the trouble is the spreadsheet will keep no history of what the previous stock values were, so I can't graph how things change over time. This sounds like it might be too complicated to be built in to excel, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to program this in Visual Basic. Maybe something like this.... If refresh then new cell plus new time stamp. Another possibility would be to have a whole bunch of cells that refresh only once but at longer and longer intervals, e.g.,

Ok I'm handling the RowPostPaint event so I can have the row's bounds so I can draw over that row in a custom manner.It looks good when it first loads, but as soon as I start scrolling, things get all wacky and aren't drawing.So when I first load the form, the grid looks like so:Looks good so far.But when I scroll to the bottom, it looks like this:It looks like the rows that aren't initially visible never get drawn, but don't even get drawn (the text anyways) even after the the row has been drawn.When I scroll back up to the top after this, it's looks like:Here is my RowPostPaint code, it's a little long but I tried to comment it so things wouldn't be too confusing.

1. How to get 0 padding/inner margin in the cells? I want just the border as a colored line at the next close pixel to the control in the cell. Or if border set to none, I want the controls with no gap.
2. How do I actually add/remove rows& columns? I thought this was by setting the .ColumnCount property, but if I set it to 3, and then try to access the third column, it gives exception, so it's obviously just two columns, although it also looks like 3 on the form. ? I created it in designer with 2 columns though. But I don't understand how this hangs together..

View 2 RepliesIn VB 2008, I am trying to create an app that will copy a range of cells from one worksheet ("xlWS1") in the first workbook ("xlWB1") to another worksheet ("2") in a second workbook ("xlWB2"), starting in cell A1. I would like this to be activated by a button.Then, another button will copy the same cells from "xlWS1" to "xlWB2", worksheet "3", and so on for each subsequent button.
xlWB1/xlWS1 contains data in the cells that is updated from our data acquisition system once per second. (we perform jet engine testing). "xlWB2" sheets (6 of them) will contain the saved data from the "live" screen (xlWS1, came cell range) in the first WB. There are several different versions (filenames) of the second workbook, one for each engine model.Both workbooks should already be open, but I would also like the app to open them if they are not open already.
We have been using VBA macros to do this, but run into problems when someone saves the second (destination) workbook under a different filename. For some reason, if the filename of the Wb that is already open isn't the same as what's in the macro for that button, the macro's defined workbook is renamed in the macro. I am trying to get away from using the macros to keep this from happening, and to make an app that's "foolproof" so it is more reliable.
I already have an app that will open the proper workbooks. I may combine the two apps in the future. I can't find a solution for this. The VBA code is quite different and simple as far as opening, activating, copying, etc. Basically, I can't seem to find any self-explanatory "activate/copy/paste, etc." namespace in Vb 2008 like I used in the VBA macros.
I'm sure the solution is simple, but I just can't seem to find it in the MSDN library or the VS 2008 book I have. Everything in the book talks about accessing databases, which we don't use (yet). There's nothing concerning this issue with Excel 2003 workbooks/worksheets.

The DataSource of the grid is a RecordSet,created by parsing a comma-delimited text file.rom the UI, I add a new column with a defined size to the text file and then reload the data grid with a routine that creates a new ResultSet and binds it to the grid. I've a datagridview with a multiline textboxcolum, if the cell content is small (one line) the scroll works fine and I can see the content of all rows. But, if a row cell content is very large (ten lines), only is visible the top of the cell and if I try scroll down, the scroll goes to the next row without can see the rest of the cell text, even using the arrows for move inside the cell, the bottom is not visible.I was searching in the web and the only solution is use panel and put inside the datagridview. It looks me a fix more than a solution.

i am trying to build an application where a specified number of cells are spoken from an excel file. what i want is something similar to what happens in excel, once u click play one cell after the other is selected and spoken and it automatically moves forward to the next, speaks and so on... but if i use voicecombo/SAPI.spvoice the UI freezes! any ideas?
